Walked in for dinner with friends.
The property is located by the backwaters.
Ships entering the Kochi port pass close by.
Had an outdoor table on the lawn, just by the waters.
Food was awesome. Service even better.
And the cost... I'd say it was worth it.

Lovely property, gorgeous views and exemplary service! It was my third stay at this property over last few years. We stayed in the heritage wing of the hotel during this visit - room was large and comfortable and view was lovely. To us service was a key differentiator - general manager Vincent Ramos manages by walking around paying attention to guests and ensures all details are attended to. We had dinner at the Rice boat restaurant which was a lovely experience.

Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We liked Heritage wing rooms.

I rarely write hotel reviews, although stay in hotels fairly frequently because of business and leisure. We chose the Vivanta because we both need a break from busy schedules. The hotel is built on a man made island, which was the original port headquarters for Kochi in the 1930s, so the drive to the hotel takes you past storage yards, an abandoned railway and other fairly run down port buildings...and then you reach the Vivanta...an oasis of hospitality. We stayed for 6 nights in a tranquil and service orientated environment. I don't think I have been in a hotel where I have seen so many staff and they are all there to try and pre-empt your every need. I had read the odd negative review in the general posts; all I can say is that when things do go wrong, as soon as you bring it to the attention of staff they respond immediately to resolve. The hotel maintains a character and level of personal service that deserves all the positive reports it receives.

Outstanding property with best services and staff is highly cooperative and helpful. Buffet does not taste good as compare to Menu food. There is no beach but rooms has good Sea view from upper floors. Chinese and sea food is good. Easy to travel from hotel to old town of fort kochi by jetty which charge only Rs.2/- one way and hotel vehicle drops off at jetty terminal free of cost. Hotel also upgrade room on request subject to availability and if someone is already enrolled with them as member.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view on upper floors

My boyfriend and I loved our night here. The staff were impeccably dressed and friendly. Check-in was taken care of while sitting in the lobby with a complimentary welcome drink. The room was clean, spacious and extremely comfortable. The experience was made even better by the small complimentary items and toileteries. We were also given a complimentary upgrade from a Sea View to a Sunset View room. My boyfriend had forgotten his iPhone charger, and they were able to lend us one. An afternoon by the infinity pool was only slightly spoiled by the presence of strands of wire at the bottom, left over from some decorations. Otherwise, the pool attendant made sure our loungers were clean and that we were supplied with large towels and water. The hotel also provided a complimentary 'High Tea' next to the water (tea, coffee, small puddings, cakes and Indian snacks) followed by a 45 minute sunset cruise of the harbour. The spa was fully booked on the day we arrived, so we had to book our massages for 12pm the next day. We were able to arrange late check out so that we could relax afterwards. Check-out was just as seamless as check-in and we left thoroughly refreshed. The only downside was that the wi-fi cost £7 for 24 hours, while many hotels offer it for free. I would definitely stay here again.

Spent 2 nights here and was a great introduction to my first time in India. The hotel is gorgeous from the moment you step in the lobby. Stylish Keralan decor, fresh flowers (casabla and Sorbonne Lillie's and birds of paradise everywhere- sublime) and a very warm welcome allowing a very early check-in.

The room was perfect - a corner suite with views to the front and side. Bathroom, amenities, etc totally up to par.

All around, service was spectacular - from the concierge, to the pool to restaurants and spa.

Food at Pepper was excellent. Didn't eat anywhere else.

Fort Cochin is a short ferry away and the hotel provides pick up/drop off to the port.

The only reason this is not a 5 star rating is because of the location. Kochin is very industrial and the view from the infinity edge pool is of cranes, tankers and rather dirty water channel. In general, I was a little disappointed with the area and fort cochin itself. Perhaps if I had stayed right in Cochin, it might have grown on me and i iwould have appreciated it more. But my one day visit to the town was cut short by rain, many places were closed and left a lot to be desired.

Overall, very happy with The Taj.

Pros: beautiful decor, amazing lobby/bar, excellent service, food
Cons: expensive wifi, far from anything

Room Tip: 139 is a corner room. Even better would be on a higher floor. I think this was the new wing which is...

A luxurious, peaceful hotel nestled in Cochin Harbor. We had a corner suite allowing us to view the harbor from either site and overlooked the open terrace of the hotel. The view, ambiance, and Taj hospitality made us reluctant to leave on our city tour. A wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Corner suites overlook the harbor.
