Chinese fishing nets are tent shaped upside down. This nets are left in water for 2-3 days and fishies get trapped and cannot come out. And this fisherman’s would scoop-up the nets to see their catch.
There are only few places with Chinese fishing nets, Kochi is one of the fortunate ones to have.

I've never seen anything like this before. The net scoops fish out of the river. The locals invited me to pull up the nets, and then hassled me for tips after. I gave them generous tips, and then they asked for more and practically grabbed the money out of my hands. I'm sure they needed it more than I did though.

We read about the chinese net and went up to the shore to check thise out but were disappointed as there were hardly any nets. So it needs a major restoration if it still needs to be considered as a tourist point.

This is a traditional Chinese fishing method on the shores of backwaters; This is a dying art; the catch is diminishing gradually and therefore it is not economically viable for the fisherman; it is a very amazing experience to see how it works; every time the net boom is released, the weights attached to the boom takes the net into the waters; then the fishermen wait for a few minutes for the fish to come onto the net; then using ropes and by the weight of the man on the boom receding backward the net boom comes up; the very interesting scene is that a big crowd of crows come and pick up half the fish caught before it lands on the bag of the fisherman; nice experience; it can be seen on fort kochi backwaters and in other inland water bodies; the size of the fishing net varies from place to place. This will soon vanish from kerala back waters; one can see this free on the shores; one can also buy fresh fish from them (small fish)
