“Interesting area to wander through”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

This old area of Kochi is fascinating for its old colonial era buildings and narrow streets full of activity. There are many tourist shops but they are not too annoying. Also many antique shops - some artefacts even look genuine. Also plenty of spice shops, but they are a rather expensive way of buying spices. Mixed in with these are many of the original trading places and this is the best part of Mattancherry. Keep a look out for side streets leading to the water where there are many fishing boats looking like Venetian gondolas, a design dating back to the Portuguese era

“lovely place to stay.”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Its right next to fort kochi. We stayed in a home-stay. Which was quite comfortable. We hired bicycles to go around the little town and visit the different places in our itinerary.

“good for history buffs”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

nice place to savor in some history and do some street shopping ... might be a little expensive though, this being a touristy place ..... u can walk around for most part to see it .. narrow roads .. can be covered within a day ... Jewish synagogue and Mattancherry palace being the chief attractions ..
