“Homely dishes in Maria's home!”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Maria's welcomed us into her kitchen, where she had done the preparation in advance, then explained about the use of spices in Keralan cooking. We wrote down the recipes as we went, and made a dry beetroot curry, a pumpkin and coconut curry, and dahl with a tadka. Maria made a mint and coriander chutney in the blender, and told us how to make the spiced rice which was already prepared. Our role was a bit of stirring, so not as hands on as some classes we have done, but we are still eager to return home and try out the dishes. Also met Maria's husband, who was breaking up a jackfruit from their garden and offered us a piece to taste - really sweet!

“Great Time with Maria!”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Maria is amazing. She made time for us on a day she doesn't normally teach, just so we could have a class before leaving Fort Cochin. She requires a basic 100 rupee deposit, and your class can be either private or in a group. She can teach veg or non-veg options, and you wind up making 4-5 dishes. She spends ample time (appreciated!) talking about the importance and usage of all the spices in Indian cooking. She really cares that you understand. You get to be hands-on behind the stove, and the eating experience afterwards is divine- get hungry before you go, and don't plan anything right after! Everything was amazingly flavorful, and I can't believe I didn't mess it up. There is a lot of food- if you're a small group with a smaller appetite, let her know at the beginning and she will scale back the portions. Her husband George is friendly and welcoming, and getting to meet them and see their home (and new grandkids!) was a pleasure. Go see Maria!!

“Cooking with class”
Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

Maria is a wonderful cook and teacher. She can teach veg or non-veg dishes and has lots of tips and advice for those of us who know nothing about south Indian cooking. We were in a class of 4 and we each had a turn to cook a dish. These were so delicious and it was a pleasure to eat in Maria and George's home.

“A fantastic taste of India!!!”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

During a 2-week-trip to Kerala, I went to Maria's cooking lesson. It was one of the highlight of my trip. My friend and I are unanimous; Maria is a really good teacher. She did ask if we wanted a non veg or veg menu before we came and chose 5 recipes. Maria started the lesson by showing us spices used in indian dishes and then cooked ourselves the meal. After we were done cooking, we did enjoy the food while discussing with Maria's husband.
We really had a great time with Maria and we can't wait to cook indian again!

“The taste of India!”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

To experience the cooking class of Maria was fantastic! She took the time to explain the different herbes and spices and how to balance them. The meal which was the result of the class was delicious. I'm sure we need a lot of practice to get it the same at home, but we are surely gonna try. The chicken curry was one of the best I ever had, and the spicy aubergine was awesome.

If you are in the neighborhood of Fort Cochin it's definitely worth a visit.

4 Dutch tourists.
