“authentic coffee house experience..”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Tucked in between the crowded shops on the busy Broadway, you'll find the Bharat Coffee House, still there with its old world charm. Some might find it a bit out of place, as the Queen of Arabian Sea has fast embraced the high pace change of contemporary life, while this place still retains the flavors of its past, both in what they serve and how the place feels to all your senses. The disadvantage is that someone new to Cochin or a tourist will easily miss the place. You need to know the streets of Cochin and such hidden secrets well to find the place, or a well informed guide. Coz even the street vendor standing right in front of the entrance of BCH might not know what’s behind him. This happened to a friend of mine, who tried to find the place. Once you finally enter, you will be welcomed by the old brass shield announcing "Approved Coffee House, Approved by Coffee Board", something that you wouldn’t find in any of the new world cafes. The place is definitely old, not much has been done to change the look and feel, the furniture will remind you of your grandparents or even an older generation, the hosts approaching the last quarter of their lives, gives you the feel that they've worked here forever (even though some of them are now being replaced by the cheaper labor from other states - probably the older variety is hard to find and the native youngsters not interested). The white painted high wooden ceiling supported by metal poles, the huge double panes doors and windows, the displays, all will take you back in time. They still maintain a separate room for families and women!! The menu is definitely the best part. All the south Indian veg delicacies at their authentic best, to tickle your taste buds. Coffee here is the must try (remember the shield). The bill will shock you, coz it'll just be a fraction of what you would've expected. On your way out don’t forget to check the fries, pickles, sweets etc displayed at the counter. You'll definitely find a handful of long forgotten 'Mal' specialties’. And please don’t forget to make a note of the location in your content heart when you walk out, still enjoying the lingering taste of coffee in your mouth.

“Average Restaurant”
Reviewed December 8, 2011

This is an average restaurant in Cochin. When I want vegetarian food, I go to this restaurant which is very reasonably priced with food of average taste. Surroundings are good, service is good. I rate this restaurant as an average.
