“Perfect for Young Women Traveling”
Reviewed May 27, 2011

After studying abroad in Delhi for 3.5 months, two of my friends and I traveled to Kerala and stayed at Jasmin Villa in Kochi. Stanley Wilson was wonderful about being flexible with out dates and gave us really good student rates. We weren't sure what we wanted to see besides Kochi and he helped us arrange an overnight trip to his homestay in Munnar in the mountains and tea plantations, as well as a day trip through the backwaters. We loved it!!! We felt safe the entire time and Stanley and Jasmin (Stanley's wife) took great care of us. Jasmin cooked delicious breakfasts and dinners for us, and even packed us breakfast to go when we left for Munnar. We took a cooking class with her one night which was really fun.

The house is a short walk from the bus station. The bus into town is a five minute ride and costs only 4 rupees. We also walked into town and back a couple of times. We took the ferry in town to Vypeen island to go to Cherai beach, which was mostly deserted and absolutely beautiful. We did a bit of shopping in town, mostly for handicrafts and jewelry. There's an extremely chilly Cafe Coffee Day for when it's really hot...

The rooms are spotlessly clean and the house seems to be newly renovated. We didn't have A/C in our rooms but I think they do have one room with it if you felt like you needed it.

You better like fish and coconut! We ate a lot of it. We gave up our vegetarianism to eat the Kochi fish that Jasmin prepared!

I'd post pictures, but I dropped my phone in the river where we watched elephants being bathed...oops! We definitely recommend this guest house - you'll have a wonderful time!

A memorable two nights in Jasmin Villa with Jasmin and her husband Stanley was wonderful. We learned a lot from the cookery class and feel quite confident that we can try to replicate some of those great dishes here at home especially the vegetable stew! Our best meal since we have arrived in India. Thanks for giving us a taste of keralan culture. Best of luck.

Spending a couple of remarkable nights in stanley's hotel at munnar, on our way back we stayed at Stanley's homestay which is named as "Jasmin Villa", another place which is exceptionally memorable. It was ofcourse touching my heart and sense as well. No doubt and no need to explain, we felt that was cute but clean! calm yet warm! The keralite food cooked and served by stanley's wife Mrs.Jasmin comprising of rare sea food and chosen vegetables made me to experience a new taste extravaganza. I missed out the cooking class by jasmin (for which i regret now, i am not passionate about cooking though) as we have little time there and had to board flight next day. It was really a lovely place to stay and will definitely go back next time.

My second stay at Jasmin Villa (delightfully named after Stanley Wilson's wife) for four nights and it was as lovely as before. The rooms are comfortable and one has a balcony. Jasmin is a highly intelligent cook, producing a wide array of different dishes and introducing me to some unusual vegetables such as 'corca' similar to an extremey tasty potato. Try the swing in the garden! Overall a great place to stay. Will definitely go back. Lovely people.

I and my better half had a very pleasant stay at Jasmin villa homestay located in calm and quiet place in fortkochi. Stanley and his wife Jasmin are so friendly, the rooms are comfortable and clean. Jasmin cooked some wonderful traditional indian food for us, gave tips to me on her cooking magic as well which was a great experience. Nice place to stay, would recommend it to anyone. Hope to be back again.

We took the cooking class organised by the affable Stanley Wilson and hosted by his lovely wife Jasmine at their home a mile or two from downtown Fort Cochin. If you are interested in learning about Indian and Keralan cooking I can heartily recommend this course. Jasmine takes up to 3 people on the course, unlike some other more widely advertised courses which can have classes five times that number, and so it is a really personalised experience.

Jasmine has a magic with spices and taught us a host of dishes and clued us up on so many more. We took the vegetarian course but cooking with fish is also offered.

Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to arrange one of the tours but having met Mr Wilson and given his 18 years experience in the trade, I would certainly seek out Wilson Tours should I ever return to Cochin.

NB we didn't stay at the hotel, just took the cooking class but it is situated in a quiet part of town.

My sister,a friend, and I took a Keralan cooking class here on March 13, 2011. We cooked veg pulao, chappati, veg curry, pappad, dal, okra, and raita. Jasmin was a wonderful hostess and clearly showed us how to prepare all of the dishes. It was a fabulously intimate class, as it was just the three of us and we sat around the cooking table. She dictated all of the recipes with specific amounts (bring a notebook and a pen!!) and patiently answered all of our questions. Then, the four of us sat around her dinner table and enjoyed the amazing meal and good conversation, followed by a delicious pineapple.

We HIGHLY recommend taking Jasmin's cooking class!!!!

Disclaimer: We did not stay at this homestay. We only took the cooking class.
