Went travelling around South India in November 2011, and booked 3 nights at Prem's Homestay at last minute. Cynthia was very helpful with excellent communication even before arrival.
Cynthia's family are very warm and welcoming, breakfast was tasty too.
Kochi is very peaceful with all links at very short walking distance. I would definitely come back to Prem's when ever I return to Kerala.

Room Tip: I had a non AC room in November, and with the fan it was no problem.

We stayed at Prem's Homestay twice. First for two nights and then Celia even managed to get us another room on our way back even though it was high season. Celia and her family are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, the House looks great, breakfast was tasty, the house is located within walkable distance of all major sights and we would totally recommend this place to everyone. You get great value for money. Thanks!

I had a pleasant stay at Prem's overall. Cinthia and her father were very helpful and welcoming. At some point I had a toothache and Mr Prem brought me to the dentist.
The Kathakali Cultural Centre is also within walking distance of the homestay, and generally to Fort Cochin main attractions.

We have just got back from a wonderful week staying at Prems Homestay in the Fort Cochin area of Cochin, Kerala. The first impressions were great as we were greeted by Mr Prem and his daughters into their family home and were shown to our room without delay.

The house is on three stories and is quite a large bed and breakfast accommodation with about 10 rooms. Our room was en-suite with a balcony, ceiling fan and much needed air con and although it is a bit of a squeeze to get in and out of the bathroom and on to the balcony, the room was clean and cosy and there was minimal traffic noise at night even though we were facing the main road.

Prem's is set back about 10 metres off the main road that runs through Cochin and so the traffic noise is reduced although this part of Cochin is relatively quiet at night. It is about a 10 minute walk up to the old part of town where there are numerous eating places, shops, banks, ATMs, food and souvenir stalls, ferries and the famous Chinese fishing nets.

Mr Prem and his daughters were very friendly and helpful with arranging trips and taxis for our various excursions throughout the week. We only had a couple of breakfasts during our stay as our stomachs were beginning to shrink after having already spent a week in Mumbai and Goa but do try their Keralan breakfast – it is great.

My only gripe is that our room shared a communal area/TV room with three other rooms surrounding it and, on a couple of occasions there were others watching the TV at night when we were trying to sleep. Perhaps this wouldn't normally be a problem for most but we are quite early to bed (around 10pm) and the TV room echoed but a friendly suggestion to keep the TV volume down was all it needed. it just happened that there was a quick turnover of guests in these other rooms who were staying for one night only so we had to keep asking new guests to be quiet. If you are early sleeps, just bear this in mind. The only other gripe was the call to prayer for a few mosques about a mile away who woke everyone up at 5.30am and continued the awful wailing for almost an hour but you will get this interruption anywhere in Fort Cochin.

Overall we had a great time and would not have wished for anywhere else during our week in Fort Cochin. If you are looking for excursions try the backwater cruise, Munnar and some of the wildlife parks. There is also plenty to do within a few miles of the guest house – Fort Cochin old town, ferries around the islands for 2 rupees, Vypeen Island and Cherai Beach, Mattencherry, Jew Town and plenty more.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are set away from the communal TV lounge. possibly the quieter ones are downstairs or...

We booked the Homestay direct after finding it on the internet. Cynthia could not have done more to help us before and during our stay. Room was basic but clean with small balcony, bath and fan for 800 Rupees per night. There is a TV room with cable and she has just installed WIFI. Many places to eat nearby, Taj Mahal was excellent. Tours also organised to Khata Kali (excellent), Backwaters and Martial Arts. The Fort area is also very interesting to walk around. We took a Rickshaw tour of the Fort for 2 hours and only cost 40 Rupees for 2 people, great value. Overall would definately recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are seperated into two levels, take the upper one, it has balcony and quieter from TV...

We ended up at Prem's after we could not get a booking for the first 2 nights at Ooies homestay ( a popular homestay that is capitalising on a positive review it had in a travel guide publised in the UK).

We were first concerned that there was no hot water for the showers in the rooms that was available for us, but Prem reassured us that with the Indian summer there will be no need for hot showers.

However, in the morning, his two daughters ( bless them) heated water and carried them up to our room in buckets.

When we did take a shower, we learned very quickly that there was no need for hot water for showering during the Indian summer.

In the evening he called on us to ensure that we are comfortable, and in the mornings he tried his best to make us feel at home.

The price was less than a half from what we paid at the other home stay the hospitality was excellent.

I will only stay with Prems during my next visit.

It is one of the few cheap home stay close to Fort Kochi. It is neat and clean. The caretaker Cyntia is also cheerful and a good person. Rooms are spacious. Only if the mattress were a little better ... but are not that too bad. There are mosquito repellent liquidators in each room. So overall a good place.
