Im not usually into this sort of thing, but it was part of our package tour. We went for the make up session which runs prior to the show. We arrived at 5.30pm and saw just half an hour of the making up demonstation. I personally think this would be long enough for most people. The show subsequently began which started with demonstrations of the facial, eye movements and acting interpretations.. Doesn't sound much but i found this absolutely fascinating. Once we were fully aware of what we were about to see, they story began. I was fascinated to see such talent and such drama. The show was performed in such an intimate theatre, and made the experience so much more enjoyable. For me the Kathakali, is the face of India and a truly memorable experience.

This show was on our organised tour itinerary. I have seen other similar things in other countries and not been altogether impressed but was pleasantly surprised that I actually quite enjoyed this one. Best not to arrive too early and the first part of the show is just sitting watching the performers applying their make up which is fine for 10 mins or so then gets a bit boring. The show itself is very good. The facial expressions have to be seen to be believed!
Top tip, try to use the loo at your hotel before you come as the ones here are not too pleasant!

This was an unplanned event, but for sure we didn't regret this. This place was very near from our hotel- air-conditioned and comfortable . The ticket price was Rs 250 per person. The show started at 5pm, and we were on time for it. They started of with makeup application process which is really a long and intricate process - as you know Kathakali is noted for the attractive make-up. Then, they started of with the demonstration, where the dancer explains to us the gestures and facial expressions used followed by the stage play.
It was great and totally worth it! As an art-lover, i was mesmerized with the dance and the way they performed. Once the play is done, you can go a take a picture with the dancers. One will really enjoy this, and it was great way to preserve and promote one's culture!

What a great show, you must go and watch the application of make up, here you get the opportunity to meet the muscians and actors, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This was 'Theatre' at its best, the actors using facial expressions, and body language. The use of the eyes was simply amazing and I only wished I videoed it, I was entranced by the performers,
