“Wind Haven”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

I was there with my family on 17th December (for 2 nights) and had very good stay at the resort. Food was really good and the management especially Miss.Mini was very helpful. During our stay the management and the staff was very friendly and they took us to show the top station and many other places. Of course it is bit far from all the cities and towns and we wanted a place to spend our holidays with no disturbances like what you have it in the cities and for that WIND HAVEN Resort is the best place I have ever visited in my life. The room was very clean and the bathroom as well, hot water is 24x7. Overall my experience was very good.

We stayed here on 17th Dec'13 and had a horrible experiece throughout our 1 day stay.
1. Location is terribly remote from the main city (i.e. Thekkady). Its in between somewhere in jungle around 2 hrs drive from Thekkady city with no proper signages / street lights on the way. There is no other option (hotel) nearby if you want to check out and switch to different hotel.
2. No hot water available in the bathroom despite being a 3 star hotel (as stated on website and by their staff as well). This is a very basic need from the hotel situated on a hill station. And I was told by one of their staff members that all their rooms are like this.
4. T.V. not working when we checked in. After trying hard for sometime the staff member could fix it, but there was no Hindi / English channel running on it (except Animal Planet).
3. They turned off the power at around 11:00 pm in the night (really scary!!) and after calling they restarted the power. Then again turned it off after half an hour. Again in the morning they switched off the power and on calling to the reception they said that because people were asleep in the night so there was no need of power as such. Hence, it remained switched off and we could not sleep throughout the night because of the absolute darkness and noone to attend and take action on our grievances.
4. Understandably as expected no feedback form was provided during our check out, so that no record can be maintained.
5. We immediately updated our travel agent regarding the overall experience once we checked out and after having half an hour of discussion with Hotel manager Mini Parrera, travel agent immediately removed it from his list.
6. Definitely not even close to a 3 star accomodation, I doubt of it being even a 1 star.

Feedback for tripadvisor : Based on your rating we asked our agent to book room in this hotel. However, our experience was really terrible which has put us into confusion to trust tripadvisor rating in future. We have been booking hotels in the past as well based on the rating mentioned on your sight and were never dissatified. But after this nightmarish experince we are in dilemma regarding rating you provide. My sincere request is to look into this and do the needful.

Room Tip: Never ever go for this property even free of cost. Better look for some property in Thekkady city it...

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your feedback and I my apologies for the inconvenience caused.
1) I am sorry about the street lights as it is completely controlled by local administration and we are unable to do anything about it. We do have sign boards at regular intervals.
2) The power tripped off after midnight on that particular night due to storm and the inverter lights were on. In addition we had politely informed you that the noise by generator will disturb the sleep of other guests.
3) Hot water was shut in the night time during peak season in order to avoid it being drained inadvertantly from a room or for washing clothes. However, we do provide it upon request whenever a guest demands.
4) Hindi and English news channels are available but may not be of your choice as the service providers cater mainly for local population who do not prefer Hindi and English.

Your displeasure in 3 trivial subjects had converted your review in a complete negative manner and I humbly request you to be honest in writing a review rather than exaggerating. Our location is being appreciated by all guests and we do care for people and do our very best to make sure that our guests are treated well. We know that we can't satisfy everyone to their own liking, but will continue to keep up our standard.

Wishing you all the very best.

With warm Regards,
Anita Mani.

It was a perfect halt at Thekkady and it turned out to be even better on the Christmas eve. The party was led by Capt.Noble who entertained us with some amazing wits and then there was chill out disco until the toast for Christmas. We were lucky to have a champion Mr.Sahil with us who was leading us on the dance floor. The food was so great and it went on like a feast. The staff was very good indeed and made our days memorable with the trips to Ramakkal and to a beautiful spot called top station. The room was extremely clean and the quotes all around was good enough to set the tone of the day. The USP of the resort is it's owner, Capt. Noble and the location is the USP of Thekkady.

Room Tip: We did not get the suit, but the forest view was soothing. It was fun watching the circus of monkeys...

Thanks for your review and I really appreciate it. I am glad that you all had a great party on Christmas eve and you had enjoyed your stay.
Yes' it was a honour that the Para-Olympic gold medalist Sahil was the guest who cut the cake and led the dance party.

My 3 days at Periyar was spent at Wind Haven, Ramakkal. Though it is 45 minutes away from Periyar, the stay is worth more than what is hoped. My morning trek to Ramakkal top station with Ms.Mini was the best thing happened in my Kerala trip. There is some amazing history Around Ramakkal. The suit facing the statue was superb to watch the sunrise.
Thank you mini for your wonderful company. Sab.

Room Tip: Take the room on the front

The hotel is 40 kms/ 1 hr away from Thekkady. There is one hill in front of this hotel - its nice and quite, but how long can you keep gaping at one hill ? But this is the best you can get here.
The staff hospitality, especially of Ms. Mini, that they keep harping so much is just - sweet talk and nothing else. There is no hot water available - they lie that they provide hot water from 6am - 8am - there is ONLY freezing cold water - all day and night. If you call and follow-up and insist, they will do you a favor of bringing in 1-2 buckets. The reason they state is that North Indian guests come here and wash clothes in the bathroom !!

We took the Suite and they initially showed us a dingy small room and when we refused to take it, they gave us a better one. Their Suite is very average. Their best showpiece is - the Bathtub..with no hot water !! This is the best joke I have ever seen. We went for a body massage and when we come back there is no hot water.

Do not waste your money here.

Room Tip: There Suite is very very mediocre.

Good day Sir,

Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the inconvenience caused to you during your stay.
Ramakkal has several attractions and as you had rightly said, you can't enjoy all if you stay in the room. The Ram's rock is 15 minutes trekking from resort, Wind farm, spice farm and Rabbit farm is 3 Km away. Top station is 2.5 km away, the Vineyards and Suruly waterfalls are other options.
You will require at least 2 days of stay here to enjoy Ramakkal at it's best.
Our suit size 400 square feet with Seperate day room, bed room and huge balcony and it has been rated best value for the price we charge and surely do not over-charge.

We have a 2000 ltrs capacity hot water system for just 13 rooms and in order to provide hot water for bathing, we do control it during peak season. However, we do provide hot water upon request.

My humble request is to be honest in writing review as your rating was given as average but the header was chosen as terrible.

Wishing you all the very best.

Best regards
Anita Mani.
