Surprised by the good reviews for this hotel. Was there for a day, early morning check in and same night check out. Filthy lift and common areas that did not get cleaned for the entire day. First room offered had broken shower and the packets of toiltries were there but items inside were missing. Switched rooms and got a room that was filthy with dirt marks all over the room and bathroom. You have to climb one horizontal panel in order to adjust the AC levels. The service staff do not wear slippers and check you into the room very roughly, no help with luggage etc. Not a good spread for breakfast and when I reached aournd 7.20 am, no one to serve breakfast, no one was around. Intercom was broken, credit card machine was broken, too many things not working in this hotel.

The room at Rs. 2950 was high priced for the value and service, this hotel would have been ok for a Rs. 800 - Rs 1000 room rental.

We,CLIK - Bangalore conducted 3 day Events from 18.4.13 to 20.4.13. We found that both the Conference facilities namely Pearl & Viceroy are good. Peral can comfortably accommodate about 25 people and Viceroy about 100 people. We also had booked about 18 Rooms which are really good and value for money in a city like Mangalore. However, they need to improve up on food menu choice, peripheral conference facilities like Name Plates, AV equipment etc., Wifi does not work in Conference Halls. Otherwise we are quite satisfied & very much appreciate the efforts of the Management & Staff to meet the requirement of guests. The Saffron is a nice hotel with comfortable rooms, very good wifi and it has a lovely location for the breakfast buffet on the roof top. The management however is not very friendly the manager was actually very rude to us. We first got a room right next to the generator which was very loud during the night because there were many power cuts (it was the 24th of december). Before we went to bed we asked for another room but it was not possible to change what we could understand. The next morning we asked the lovely staff at the reception if we could change the room now but they couldn´t decide so we had to wait for the manager. That´s actually not what you want tot do when you´re in a new city and on holidays. When the manager finally arrived he was absolutely unfriendly and arrogant. Even though he had another room he didn´t want to give it to us. We made clear that we would leave immediately and after 3 hours(!) he gave us another room. This is usually not acceptable and never happened to us anywhere.

Stayed for 4 nights in a standard room. In the first room offered on 2nd floor, there were residues in the WC, though marked as sanitized. Immediately offered a second room on the same floor where the same problem was found. Then the bellboy informed that there is some maintenance work going on in the sewerage line in 2nd floor and after that they gave us a room in 1st floor! The room was OK and we settled down. The bedsheet had blood stains and on informing it was replaced with a clean one! Later we found that the shower diverter is not operating properly. Again gave a complaint in the morning the next day. It was promptly attended and then onwards everything was fine.

The room was of standard size – not big but comfortable to move around. We were three adults and they provided a folding cot with a thick mattress which was as comfortable as the bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful and smiling. Iron was provided on request and even they got a thread and needle from shop when we had an urgent requirement and refused to take payment for the same (even though a meager amount, such courtesy is not shown in many hotels)!! Tea-coffee maker was available and extra replenishments available on request. The complimentary breakfast was not a big spread (for visual attraction) but meets the requirement – one north Indian preparation, one south Indian preparation, cornflakes, bread, eggs to order, fruits …

Overall a very nice stay but what I found the hotel is lacking is in regular inspection and maintenance. They are very prompt in doing things after getting complaints. This part must be taken care off so that the first impression itself is good. Surely I will stay again in my next visit.

We toured Mangalore in Nov 2012 and stayed in "The Saffron" over the weekend. It was decently priced. The rooms were very spacious and well maintained. The staff were very courteous and helped us with our queries. I would recommend "The Saffron" to all those who plan to visit Mangalore.

As stated in the title, the hotel is like a perle in wilderness.
The rooms are quite big, clean & reasonable priced, expecially when we had booked through Cleartrip.
The hotel is situated central in every respect. We stayed 9 nights and have travelled all places around Mangalore easyly.
Breakfast was buffet, mostly south Indian, but when we ordered other food stuffs for.ex. curd or boiled eggs, they were promt served, without extra charges.
The staff very helpfull in every respect.

Pls dont expect 5 star comforts; this is a centrally located good budget hotel with decent service and food. Breakfast spread could have been better, but overall acceptable. Staff is helpful and were able to arrange a city cab for us at very short notice.
