My friends and I stayed at the Hacienda Vargas for a long weekend and absolutely loved it. It's a unique, charming inn nestled between Santa Fe (~45 min away) and Albuquerque (~20 min away), perfect for our plans to visit both cities at various times during the weekend. This was my first stay in a B&B and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are warm and inviting (and quite large!), each with a private entrance. The breakfasts were hot, fresh, and delicious, prepared onsite by the owners. The owners Richard and Cynthia were very accommodating to our needs/requests and went above and beyond our expectations in many ways.
I stayed in the Kiva suite which had a full and twin sized bed, which were quite comfortable. It also had a sitting area and a kiva wood burning fireplace that was enjoyable to sit around in the evenings. The private bath contained a jacuzzi tub and seperate shower. The switch to turn on the jets to the jacuzzi was on the wall next to the door (not near the tub itself), which made it interesting to turn on and off. The room itself had a nice cozy rustic feeling with the wood ceilings and spanish tiled floor. It had an entrance both into the main lodge (so you didn't have to go outside in the cold to go to breakfast), and an entrance into the courtyard.
Things to be aware of: As the other reviews mentioned, the inn is by the railroad tracks. The train can be quite loud as it goes by. However, it is quick and it never actually woke me up (I'm a moderate sleeper). The only time I heard it was in the early evening. There is a dog onsite (the owner's), but is the sweetest, friendliest guy you'll ever meet (never heard him bark once)!
