“"Only Luxury villa resort in Chikmagalur"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

Have to confess - almost a year since my visit to Serai, but felt its worth writing a review about ...that too with the Indian summer now and lots of ppl planning trips.
Its a luxury resort within a plantation, in fact just at the beginning of the plantation. Located on a slightly hilly area....just after chikmagalur town.

The plus points:
1. The rooms are splendid, with excellent bathrooms. The highlight of each room (all rooms are villas) is the pool/jacuzzi. We had a pool villa ......the family just enjoyed the pool. Its cleaned and well maintained and the outdoor bed/gazebo is excellent for lounging....and the villa has full privacy - for this alone u got to visit this resort.
2. Food could have been better....but wasnt disappointing.
3. Excellent courteous staff - professionally trained.
4. Plantation walk was good -- but have seen better ones.

Few let downs:
1. Lots of concrete in the resort design - could have been better planned to include more greenery in between.
2. The coffee was disappointing - we were expecting strong coffee - that too from a coffee day resort - YES it is a cafe coffee day venture - I have had better coffee in canteens!

TO put it all together - excellent for a 2-3 nights getaway for ALL - families with kids, couples and honeymooners too. I feel the price also is comparable or even more affordable compared to other luxury resorts with these kind of pool villas. If you are driving from nearabouts and saving on the travel - then worth this limited splurging for a great experience

Room Tip: Pool villas are better than jacuzzi villas except maybe in the rainy seasons or in december when its...

I along with my wife had gone there last sept for a Day. We had heard a lot about this property being the best and better than Taj, but was utterly disappointed. Right from the start, the booking call centre people in bangalore were too pushy in trying to get the confirmation and then the payment, constantly remainding us that the resort was sold out and they were trying to do their best in accomodating us, whereas when we reached there the resort was not even 70 % full.Though we got a good welcome, the property wasnt that upto our expectations. There were lot of dirt in the small canal which runs in the middle of the walkway and at lot of places they had just thrown the bleaching powder to cover the moss. The atitude of the staff wasnt worth any mention. While the person in reception spoke with an atitude citing that they are one of the best resort, the staff at room service were strict about a request of having some coffee / biscuits being served in the room. The coffee shop was always crowded and in the room, the area near the pool was dirty and upkeeing was found wanting... We just checked out early the next day and scooted back.. Overall the hype wasnt worth it for the price we paid

Room Tip: Apart from the summer season, try and take the room with jacuzzi since most of the other time, the p...

Quite Place. No unwanted disturbance. Privacy maintained.
Amazing food quality and variety - we would get full jus by tasting everything
Coffee shop is great
Coffee Plantation walk was good
Oma Spa - Slightly higher on Price but excellent service
Aroma Massage - 60mins - Rs. 2500/- per head 90 mins - Rs. 3200/- per head
treatments range from 1500/- to 8800/- per head
We had opted for special couple dinner. Dinner was superb. Photographer was bad. (Out of focus clix)
But still overall a great experience. Slightly high on budget but best place at that price.

My family and I stayed there in a villa for three days. The attitude of the staff was outstanding -- very friendly and helpful, and it is a rare indeed in India to find that balance. The food was good, if you are into Indian cuisine. The villa itself (and the private compound and pool) was excellent. Highly recommended if you want to drop out and relax somewhere. We did visit Belur and Halabedu temples (exquisite) and Mullayanagiri hilltop temple.

Room Tip: Try and stay far away from the rooms if any politicians are visiting. They seem to favor this place...

There's a little gap between my visit & my review about Serai, but i would definitely like to recommend this place to anyone who is looking at spending some quality time at a price!! The property is amazing along with a very amicable staff. Its totally worth the amount although i would agree with the others here about the food spread provided by resort. The spread can include more varieties. However i have no complains about the resort, rather its a very well kept property. I would definitely visit again!!

Its a nice peaceful resort, ideal if you just want to relax. All the facilities are good and well maintained. We stayed in a "Estate Pool Villa" which is a individual gated villa with a private pool. The villas are spacious, comfortable and nice. If you get a villa at the far end, it can feel like a bit of a walk, especially in the hot summer sun. Overall food was satisfactory. The lunch wasn't that good but dinner was good and breakfast was decent. Evening coffee and snacks service was very slow but otherwise service was good. Billiards, carom, chess, common swimming pool and library are available. We were told wi-fi is available on a chargeable basis, but I didn't need it. Tata Sky satellite TV service (not all channels though) and DVD player available in the room. There is also a mini refrigerator and electronic safe in the room. Decent selection of complimentary snacks, cookies, soft drinks and drinking water in the room. The morning estate walk is decent but can be missed if you feel like sleeping in. You can probably do the walk yourself when you like, but you may miss some tidbits from the guide. The spa experience was also good, but expensive.
Overall a nice and comfortable stay but pricey at Rs.17,005 (through makemytrip.com) for 1 day.

Room Tip: Try and get a villa closer to the main building

The Serai is situated in a very quiet location (although it is a bit of a trail to reach). Rooms - lodge/bungalow style - are very spacious, each unit including courtyard with private pool, and extensive bathing/showering facilities.
The beds are comfortable, but mounted on a pedestal surround which makes getting in and out awkward.
Choice and quality of food in the restaurant is good. The bar is also good, but has extremely slow service.
