Russell Market is one of the oldest in Bangalore. It's reportedly been here since 1927. It is housed in a building, a bit like the old London markets, and in a uniquely Indian way, there is a very popular Catholic church, St Mary's Basilica at one end of the square and at the other, a Mosque. Opposite Russell Market is what I call the 'spare car parts' market. Here all the car crash cars end up and are broken into parts and recycled and re-sold. Within Russell Market itself you'll find fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. Be warned that the poultry is live... until you order it. It is a wonderful mash up of Hindu, Christian and Muslim and the people there are very friendly and approachable. A gem of a place like which you rarely find elsewhere and yet it's never mentioned in the guidebooks.
