“Beware of getting robbed”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Was on a business trip to the hotel on 5 Oct. We had a conference room booked for the team and had to step out a couple of times leaving our belongings in the room, for outdoor teaming events. Post lunch realized that I and a colleague were robbed of Rs 2000 and Rs 1500.It was taken out of our purses kept inside the handbag. It was a real shocker. Never expected this at an international chain. Terrible experience. We complained however nothing much was done!

Stayed at this hotel for one week in September on a business trip. The rooms were quite o.k. and equipped with a large walk-in shower, the room rate was absolutely reasonable, everything was clean, but there are also a couple of downsides that are simply unacceptable in any hotel anywhere in the world:

1.) The Terrace Bar has a nice balcony to sit outside and enjoy some food or a nice drink. However, sharing this atmosphere with cat-size rats running around the bar is not so pleasant. I have never seen such big rats in my life before!!! Pest control is one of the subjects that hotel management should pick up quickly!

2.) Not specifically a hotel problem, but an Indian problem in general: Blackouts! While taking a shower in the morning, the power breaks down, while sitting outside in the restaurant, everything goes dark etc. – you name it! Unacceptable and one of the most annoying facts in India no matter where you go.

3.) The service attitude is “suboptimal”. Ordering a coffee for breakfast might take up to 20 minutes, for getting another drink once your glass is empty in the bar, you actually have to approach the waiter inside, because they simply will not come out again after the drinks/the food has been served!

4.) WiFi is a complete nightmare! Not only the stability of the WiFi connection, but simply the whole process of getting online! Here’s how it goes: Buy a WiFi-card at reception; start your notebook/iPad etc.; select the correct network (if you can find it and there is no network downtime); scratch the back of your WiFi-Card to reveal an access code; enter the access code in the WiFi’s login screen; enter an Indian (!!!) cellphone no. to receive a passcode to go online; ask yourself how to get an Indian cellphone no.; call reception; get the receptionist’s cellphone no.; enter the cellphone no. in the WiFi login screen; wait for the call from the receptionist telling you the passcode; enter the passcode without typing/communication errors as spelling a sequence of letters and numbers via phone might cause some irritation; congratulations, you might finally be online!

5.) Splitting up a restaurant bill between two colleagues takes around 30 minutes and various explanations. Also, extracting mini-bar expenses from the room bill and pay those expenses separately also extents your check-out procedure to around 30 minutes.

All in all: An o.k. stay at an o.k. hotel, however, those little things can make you crazy if you stay there for more than one week!

It was my wife's birthday and I decided to treat her with some spa and massage. So we checked in one day earlier in the afternoon with my wife and 3 year old daughter. I got my booking dome over phone itself. They did not ask for any gurantee and it was good gesture. I checked in one bed room spacious suite. It was a nice living room with a bedroom with king size bed.

The place is good and nicely maintained. However if you are with your family and kids, there is not nuch to do in the resort except getting some massages or spa treatment. For snooker they said that we have to book 15 days in advance. The food is also average for both taste and variety and not to a 5 star stadard. The staff told me that they will arrange candle light dinner at Tangerine restaurent. And then we reached there in the night at 8pm no body was there. enquired at recepetion and the guy there told me that somebody has changed the venue to Sundace restaurent so it is not his fault. He got busy with some people who arrived to check in. Anyway we went to Tangerine and there was a table for us and they arranged a nice cake. The whole service was not good experience. I had to remind the staff twice thrice to get something. Nobody pickes up the phone at room service.

The place is very expensive when you look at the kind of service you get. I suggest some other resorts or hotels for weeken getaways. I spent close to 17K on one treatment and a night stay.

Firstly, the location is on the way to the airport, not far from the city. Me and my wifey visited this place on her birthday, not sure of what was in store for us. But as soon as we saw the gates of this resort, we got assured that we would enjoy our day-out. It had all amenities, pretty classy and clean surroundings, neatly maintained and lots of place for groups to organise their events. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful in every way possible. I have to mention that the staff here is the USP of this property. The games like the badminton, pool, squash, carrom, fuse-ball kept us busy having fun for most of the day. The swimming pool was not that big and luckily it was not crowded and we had lots of privacy to swim and play the whole of evening. The spa is excellent too.
No complaints about the food. The food was heavenly, specially the lunch. You had lots and lots of varieties, different cuisines (sandwiches, cheese platters, pizzas, mangolian, kabab factory, north indian, Italian... phew) and by the time, we tried a few, our stomach was so full that we could not try the 10-15 various desserts they offered. One thing I liked about the food here is that, though it was a buffet, everything you ask for is cooked immediately and server hot.
It is pretty expensive compared to the other day-out resorts in Bangalore. The charged Rs1900 per person including breakfast, lunch and high-tea with cookies. But I surely would recommend this place coz every pie I paid was worth it.

Room Tip: Choose this place over Golden Palms, incase you are planning just for a day-out.

Entering the Angsana resort, you would be mistaken into thinking that its a gated community, which it perhaps is. It is a spacious and green place, so its all right. Be prepared to climb stairs and walk a lot - so it makes you fit in a way! The resort is close to Bangalore airport and is a place you can come with your family for a weekend or holidays for one or two days.

My room which involved walking up and down here and there was set in a block of buildings - it looked more like a two-storey apartment complex rather than a luxurious resort. Evidently a Singaporean resort/spa consultancy has helped in creating this place, but it is not jaw-dropping at all.

My ground floor room was large - and the door opened to a private-ish lawn. But other rooms next to you also have access to the lawns so its not like privacy is a given if you have the room doors open. The doors were slatted - I wished they were like moveable blinds. Or at least there should have been something like a chik curtain that allows natural light in without having to keep the doors open. The bathroom had a musty smell about it and it was understandable. Because after a shower there is water all over the floor and I used to keep the door open for it to dry up. I am still waiting for excellently sealed shower cubicles in hotels anywhere in the world...

The restaurant to which you need to trek to is the sort of place that everyone comes to eat. Service could have been better and prompt and the staff could do with some training. The buffet spread was one of those please-all, choice-for-everyone setups. Nothing to complain about as you can eat what you like. During lunch there were crows coming for the leftovers and the staff were so used to it that they didn't bother to act and clear plates as soon as guests finish.

So as far as resorts go, I am sure there are better choices around in this area.

Room Tip: Take a look around before you decide

We had gone there for an office offsite, the place is green with lots of breathing space, the food was awesome , the pool seemed smaller that what the resort deserved, bout overall the amboiance & service was great. The rooms were well ventillated, The place is expensive though, some of my friends went for SPa & found it great.
