The name “Portland Steak House” is a trifle misleading as the place has more to offer than just steaks.
Food & Drink
The regular menu has quite a wide variety of continental food – from steaks to pastas, lasagna, bakes and more. Portland offers a good “executive lunch” on weekdays. For around Rs 400, you get a choice of one starter/salad/soup, main course, dessert and a beverage.
The pepper chicken, chicken salad, and Caesar’s Salad are good starters. The BBQ chicken, with a side of mash potatoes and salad, is a nice main course if you’re not into steak. There is a nice range of steaks for those who like steak – I have heard very few complain about it being bad here.
The chef’s special apple pie is really good. Other nice desserts include the chocolate brownie and cappuccino cake. The restaurant serves only wine apart from a range of other non-alcoholic drinks.
The restaurant also offers a brunch on Sundays. Might be worth a try considering it’s a good bet on weekdays.
Staff & Service
The staff is pleasant. While the set lunch food is served very promptly, be prepared to wait a while longer if you choose to order from the a la carte menu.
Ambiance & Location
Conveniently located just off MG Road, the restaurant is great for those who live or work in the vicinity. The restaurant is spacious, quiet, clean, bright and airy. Parking could be a problem although the restaurant does have a little space reserved for its patrons’ cars in the front.
Value for Money
The “executive lunch” over weekdays is really good considering the quality and quantity of food. If you choose to eat from the a la carte menu, you could end up spending about Rs 800-1000 per head. That still isn't expensive by average Bangalore restaurant standards.
Tips for Diners
Go here for the “executive lunch” Monday through Friday. Reservations aren't necessary as the place isn't crowded generally.
