This was a beautiful hotel. In 20 acres of grounds the hotel is like stepping back in time to a lost age. The staff were wonderful. The food was outstanding. Around eight of us ate together and had a wonderful meal in the Masala Klub. The Blue Bar is a great bar. I am intending to return to this hotel not on business but for my own pleasure. I would highly recommend it.

I have stayed here once before, and despite numerous service hiccups, the lovely grounds made me book another two-night stay on a business trip to Bangalore.

Booking through Expedia, I made a mistake -- landing in Bangalore at 2AM, I put my arrival date as the check-in date. When I realized the mistake and contacted Expedia, asking to shift the date by one day back, they said that since it was less than 3 days before arrival, hotel policies require that they charge me one extra night for the change. Understanding the absurdity of doing so -- I was going to stay in the hotel for a total of less than 20 hours -- they suggested that I contact the hotel directly. Which I did.

For more than 2 days, I exchanged numerous emails with the hotel reps, including the Director of Sales, to no avail: they insisted that I should pay them an extra night for the early arrival, in fact taking pride (!) in their unbending "rules" and saying only Expedia can make a change (Expedia, of course, couldn't, due to the rules imposed by the hotel...). They refused to acknowledge there was anything wrong with paying 3 nights for a 20-hour stay, and after much pleading gave me the "option" of early check-in in at 10AM, meaning I would spend 7-8 hours waiting in the lobby after a red-eye flight. No thanks.

Good hotels, especially expensive ones who are supposed to provide excellent, personalized service and nurture return guests, always have the discretion to make a minor change such as shifting an existing reservation by 1 day without penalty. Refusing to do so in the name of "rules" can only be explained by one thing: incredible greed, trumping any notion of customer service. I have never experienced anything like it in a 5-star hotel, anywhere.

Finally, the Director of Sales informed me that rooms were no longer available the night of my arrival. The relief from his end was palpable: now he finally had a REAL reason to turn me down, and pretend money had nothing to do with it.

I promptly canceled the reservation (paying the penalty of course). I will never return to this hotel, and advise anyone contemplating this property to look at other excellent options in Bangalore. Their Taj's greed will come through one way or another.

I'm sure this post will be followed by a note from the hotel with all sorts of excuses and finger-pointing, at Expedia and myself. Let them say what they want -- this is a 100% accurate account, and there is only one bad guy in this story: the Taj West End.

Booked 4 Taj Club rooms and 1 Luxury Grande rooms between August 30 - September 2, 2013. On August 31st, in paying the bill, we specifically asked and were reassured that the total would be charged in Indian rupees by the concierge in charge, Rangit. The official exchange rate posted on Mastercard's website for that day was 67.63 to 1 USD. Instead, when we later viewed our credit card statement, we found a large discrepancy in the total USD. This was because the Taj which--WITHOUT PERMISSION OR AUTHORIZATION AND EXPLICITLY AGAINST OUR INSTRUCTIONS--had converted the bill to USD using the hotel's laughable exchange rate of 63 to 1 USD, and billed us that amount in dollars. This resulted in a $300.00 USD difference on our total bill, which the hotel pocketed.

When we notified the Taj of the error, over the course of FIVE phone calls in dealing with the Manager--he not only NEVER CALLED BACK AS HE HAD PROMISED in every conversation, but refused to right the wrong. He then wanted to swipe our card for the amount again--2 weeks after our guests have checked out and now when the exchange rate has fallen against the dollar dramatically. Are you kidding??!!! Absolutely not! We told him it would be the second act of fraud if he charged our card AGAIN without our granting him permission. The first act of fraud was when the hotel without our permission, and explicitly against our instructions, converted our bill in INR to dollars at a exchange rate they never notified us of.

The Taj is a complete fraud and a serious disappointment. We booked 7 rooms for two nights in August 2012 for a business conference. I can't speak to the accuracy of that bill since it was charged to a corporate account. But I can say that they have lost a personal and corporate customer in us!

We have now started a dispute against the Taj West End, and will litigate the matter if it is not resolved to our satisfaction.

TIP: Anytime you see a bill from the Taj--make sure you call or go onto Mastercard or Visa's official exchange rate site to find out the rate for the day you allowed the Taj to authorize payment and make sure that the amount reflected in your credit card bill is correct (Taj INR charge/ official exchange rate). If our bill weren't as large as it was, we likely would not have caught the discrepancy. And if you find a discrepancy--good luck dealing with the Taj. A better idea would be to book elsewhere for your travels! There are at least 2 other comparable if not more luxurious hotels in Bangalore!

Dear Guest

We had a credit card authorization for charging as requested earlier. At the time of check out the card was by error of the concerned associate charged in USD on a DCC machine of a bank instead of in Indian currency as requested. We receiving your call at night and immediately the error was corrected and the transaction voided immediately. A fresh transaction was charged in Indian currency along with the refund as applicable. For record - Any currency difference reflecting in the earlier voided transaction would be only on account of a higher rate at the bank whose EDC machine was issued for the initial USD transaction. We trust this clarifies your concern. We are committed to carry out our business ethically and assure you of our best services always.

One of the best properties i have come across is Taj west end. right next to turf club and opposite to golf club this is a must stay property.
This place invites you to stay longer by the virtue of beauty it possess, something of this nature in the bangalore city bustling with traffic and noise is a treat. My room was spacious and had a private verandahs with stunning views of the gardens. Amazing service, personalized touch consistent to taj and mid blowing food. overall the best place to stay in Bangalore. Blue ginger club was a treat, best crowd of bangalore was seen there. i learnt from the staff that this is This is India's first Vietnamese restaurant and Masala Klub is always a treat. overall very good experience.

Room Tip: select one with a verandah

The Taj West End in Bangalore is easily one of the best hotels you can stay in. It is one of my favourite hotels because:
The location is fantastic. The hotel is nestled amidst acres of lush green gardens. The rooms are massive and very tastefully done up. Each room is different and hence it is a unique experience each time you stay there.

The three restaurants are superb and so is the bar with their signature cocktails. You don't need to go out to eat elsewhere as each meal is a gastronomical delight. The Vietnamese restaurant Blue Ginger is unique and dining there is an experience. The Mynt and Masala Craft also serve excellent food.

The hotel has two pools and a fantastic gym. After a good work out do try the experiential shower. It really is an experience.

The service in this hotel is very professional and everybody is there to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You will be greeted at the door by the ever smiling Mr. Singh and from there on you will keep smiling right throughout your stay at Taj West End.

Love it!

Room Tip: Each room is unique and hence a diferent experience each time you stay there.

Today, I am glad to report another case of customer delight when we had to check into Taj Wesend Bangalore midnight yesterday in an unplanned manner post the runway accident in bangalore last night.

Given crisis situation(no spare clothes, no shaving kit, no mobile charger and so on), we of course chose Taj and delighted to say TWE made the cut yet again.

Special mention to uttara and paramjit in the front office, abhishek and also trainee chef Sia for making the emergency overnight stay a pleasurable one
