Ramee Guestline Hotel Bangalore
Ranked #166 of 681 Hotels in Bengaluru
Reviewed December 25, 2009

Ramee Guestline is a nice and serene place to spend your weekend, far from the hustle and bustle of Bangalore city but within touching distance from the city itself. It's just on the outskirts of the city on the road to Hosur. I had been there after I booked the place for a weekend starting Friday night and ending on Sunday evening. I was very tired with my busy daily routine and wanted a break. And what a refreshing break it was!!

I booked the weekend package for just 2999/- Rs which included food and accommodation drove to the hotel along with my wife and on arrival I was given a nice parking space for my car. We were greeted in a truly traditional way by the hotel staff along with a nice welcome drink. The rooms at the hotel are quite spacious with all the modern luxury amenities. The room was neat and clean and they also had kept some fresh fruits and mineral water for us. The hotel has a big lawn adjoining the swimming pool and the children's play area. There’s loads of scenery around the hotel and it also has got a fabulous Put-Put 18 hole golf lawn. We played golf for over 2 hours and believe it this was just amazing, as good as real golf! There's also a giant chess board along side the golf club and the pool side barbecue is brilliant. We had a dash in the pool and followed it with one of the best part of our stay at Ramee-The Food! The variety and the quality of the food was simply superb and there was loads of food to have which we heartily enjoyed throughout our stay. It also has a very good health club and indoor sports room. At night, the hotel also arranged for a bonfire and drinks along the pool side barbecue.

All in all a wonderful and soothing relaxation; just right for a weekend stay.

I selected the hotel due to location for business.

Room is fairly clean, but sometimes, shower was not hot enough.

Food was ok but not excelent.

Room charge: 300 rupee /day , that is good.

But I had trouble with front person: I asked late check-out. and he said ok, 5pm late with 5 pm checkout. When I checked out, the hotel charged me full amount of extra day. I disputed with front people that late-checkout should be free because last night, he did not say anything about the cost.

I stayed here on business for 2 weeks in September 2006. It was recommended to me by the Indian company I was doing business with, mainly because of its vicinity to Electronics City. It is a 2-star hotel with decent complimentary amenities (pool, gym, squash/badminton/tennis courts). Due to the bad service I received, I do not recommend the Ramee Guestline Bangalore to international business travelers.

First, though my reservation clearly stated that I wanted a Club room with a large bed, they initially had booked a Club room with 2 small beds. Fortunately, rooms with large beds were available, and they gave me one after I pointed out their mistake. The bedsheets did need to be changed because they were not clean.

Second, they missed 3 wake up calls! There were no alarm clocks in the rooms, and I had to rely on their wake up calls for 13 mornings. The night and day managers at reception blamed each other, and when I complained to the hotel manager at the end of my stay, he blamed a student! Reception couldn't fulfill my request for an alarm clock. Wake up calls are very important when you're on business and have a driver and colleagues waiting for you each morning. Their wake up call service is manual, and they failed miserably.

Third, they screwed up my order for bottled water 3 or 4 times! I would always order from reception, and there would be miscommunications between them and the bar, where the water was obtained.

Fourth, the restaurant service is terribly slow. They have buffet breakfasts and dinners (I was never there for lunch), but also a restaurant for a-la-carte dining. The few times I ate dinner there, I had to wait for up to half an hour for the waiter to come take my order, and then up to one hour for the food to arrive!

When I complained to reception about the wake up calls and bottled water, they were apologetic but did not seem to understand English too well. When I complained to the hotel manager, he was apologetic but made no efforts at compensation.

The hotel is cheaper than most others in its category. The rating system for this Hotel is pretty confusing- many call it a 3 star, and many a 2 star. I'll get to this in a moment. And, a word of the wise to prospective guests- don't get lured by the pics you see on the Internet!

They have branches in Bombay, Delhi, Dubai and Doha (I think). The one in Bombay, I'd say is 3 star. The one in Bangalore is honestly a 2 star, though. Now- the only Ramee I'm aware of in Bangalore is at the main industrial area (Kiadb) located way out in the outskirts- almost near Hosur. So, calling it Ramee International BANGALORE is a little questionable. IT IS PRETTY FAR FROM THE CITY.

If this means anything to you, the ride is about 30km to the heart of the city. This implies that to get to the city, you'll be spending a good 40 minutes to 2 hours on the road- if the traffic gets bad- which is not pretty uncommon, especially during office and rush hours. AND THERE ARE NO "ENTERTAINMENT" SPOTS IN THE VICINITY. Hosur is close by, but again, there's really not much happening out there either.

So, naturally, this makes it a little inconvenient for all those who want to lease out a car or an auto (mechanized 3 wheelers) to do some strolling, socializing, drinking- or whatever else humanly possible...unless of course, your idea of fun is staring at factories.

Now, the average price (when I stayed) was about INR 1300 for a standard room and INR 2,700 for a suite. The lobby is alright, the reception is pretty average- but then, for this amount of dough, you can't really except something royal. The rooms- now, this is worth writing about...

When I stayed at the suite, the room was pleasingly large. For one, the bed could honestly use a face lift. There was a very mediocre looking brown comforter covering the 2 standard white sheets given to you. Second of all, the bathroom could use some repair. The shower wasn't working- and it didn't bother me- since I prefer using buckets anyway. Strange but true- the toilet paper rack was empty. This might be a problem for those who clean using paper rolls rather than water. There was a TV and there was cable access.

Now...the food. You need a digestive system made out of PVC to handle this! Unless you're fond of EXTRA spicy food, don't order ANY of the curries. The only dishes which won't blow a 20mm hole into your stomach are the kabobs. Again, don't expect the kabobs to be as good as what you'd have eaten in Tehran. The portions are really generous and this is a good surprise to all who have a large apetite. The naans (main dish- bread) are excellent, though. 10 points for that! Along with some naans, try the "Nawabi platter" if they still have it.

Now...the bar. They got all the domestic variety of beer on stock, but you might still be left wanting if you wanted something of non-Indian origin. I don't see why this should be a problem, though. The same goes for spirits. If you're from outside India or outside the South- try Zingaro beer for the strength or try KingFisher for the smoothness.

The room service is lightning fast, compared to even the 4 star and 5 star hotels. You call and "BOOM!"...they're there! Most of these guys (room service staff) are from Tamil Nadu (considering the proximity of this hotel to the Tamil Nadu border) and I also from TN. It always makes people smile to see a "comrade" or a "home-boy" so I suppose I got extra good service. And a good thing is- the guys over at room service understand English. Even if they speak it in fragments, you shouldn't have to explain what you want more than once. Strangely enough, they didn't have cigarettes in the menu card, which I thought was pretty strange....

Now- I'd like to bring something to your attention. There are 2 main industrial areas in Bangalore. Pena and Kiadb. This one is located on the latter. So if you're in for some factory inspection, make sure you're factory is in Kiadb- else you'll be travelling on the road for a long, long time.

The verdict: Surely for those who want ***some*** luxury but have a rather strict budget in mind. One good thing is that this hotel never fills up during "peak" seasons and the prices don't fluctuate- much. If you are planning on spending time on the city- FORGET IT- stay elsewhere. Stay here only if, for some reason, you deliberately want to keep away from the city or crowded areas. The word "Not much goes on 'round here" is like a 2 edged sword. So, if that's a plus in your scheme of things, you couldn't have found a better place...but I'll say this again- in case you missed it earlier:

The Hotel is FAR from the city and there are no entertainment spots of any kind in the vicinity. Although the distance from the city is about 30km, it will surely take you 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on the traffic...if you're going by car, that is. So, it's up to you to make the pick, I guess...
