“Definite value for money. Good business hotel!”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

I got a great deal on a 4 night 5 day stay at the Infantry hotel in May. The hotel in spite of having a bit of an old school hotel look is quite chic and modern looking from the inside. The rooms are neatly designed and are quite spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms are excellent as well. The staff is affable and courteous and quite efficient. The hotel had an excellent breakfast buffet with quite a lot of options, most of which was delicious. The only complaint I had was that the wifi was not available in the room and was chargeable at the business center. The hotel was an absolute steal at the price it charged and is perfect for a business stay, although I don't think it would be a bad option for families either

We stayed for 4 nights from August 25, 2012 as a couple with an 8 year old child. We had booked an Infantry Suite. Overall I was delighted by our stay (hence 5 stars).

In more detail, some pros and cons of this hotel are:

Pluses for this hotel:
1) Location - ideal for Commercial Street (shopping), only 5 or so mins walk. Offset behind a shopping centre so very quiet.
2) Friendly accommodating staff.
3) Good air-con (though Bangalore climate is moderate due to 1000m altitude anyway)
4) Very clean
5) Price, very reasonably priced accommodation and food
6) the Shopping centre next door (Gem Plaza) contains Samarkand, one of the best restaurants in Bangalore. Great food and atmosphere at a reasonable price

Negatives:
1) We booked an Infantry Suite, supposedly the best room type, though were given room 317 (normally, the MDs room when he visits) as the hotel was full when we arrived late in the evening. What was not clear when we booked is that all the rooms regardless of category appear to actually be the same size, though some (mainly on Floor 2, together with 316 and 317 on the 3rd) have clearly been refurbed recently - and they've been done nicely. I felt slightly misled as the room we got wasn't what a westerner would describe as a Suite: it had a comfortable chair, a desk with chair, a king bed, a shower and a toilet (i.e. a normal smallish hotel room). That said, it was comfortable enough for our stay and not too expensive.
2) Bedding. Two things here: we booked through a consolidator (agoda) and had to pay through the nose for an extra bed for our 8 year old, which we didn't particularly want. However, when we got there there wasn't one nor was our room big enough to accommodate one. Overall, no big deal, have treated this as a high extra charge for triple occupancy and breakfast.
3) Bedding (again). Sheets and blanket were exactly the same size as the king bed, which meant they couldn't be tucked in. Coupled with the fact that the plastic wrapper hadn't been removed from the mattress (bizarre!) meant for a slippery night's sleep where the bedding had to be rearranged continuously. This is clearly something which the hotel could resolve easily.
4) Activation of room key - our key had to be reactivated every day at reception, which was a little irritating
5) Though very enthusiastic and helpful, many staff members' grasp of english was very poor, especially on the phone. This meant periodic trips to the reception desk where the english language standard was better.
6) Though reaonably priced, food was only OK rather than excellent. As mentioned above, having tried the hotel we went to Samarkand instead (2 min walk, good idea to book on the day especially on Sunday lunchtimes if you don't want to sit and queue)

Room Tip: Try to get a refurbished room and check that the bedding is the right size for the bed!

Have stayed there thrice over the past few weeks, but ver inconsistent service. The first two times the AC wouldn't work. Bathrooms are old, run down fittings, no hot water in the night. The third stay I had a better room but realized the room service menu was a formality with most things that we ordered being unavailable. Value for money great, staff helpful, product badly in need of change. Good choice for a quick stay in the heart of the city on a tight budget..

We arrived in the hotel as a family of 6 people, having booked 3 rooms. The rooms we had were on the second floor, and they were effectively cooled by the AC and were on the whole, excellent. Beds were comfortable and clean. Bathrooms needed a bit of finishing, as there were some seemingly permanent ink stains in one of the rooms, but overall excellent, once again. Floor carpets in all the rooms and bathrooms was left to be desired.

Room had basic amenities, such as a kettle, coffee/tea facilities, electric points. Room upkeep was excellent, and the cleaning staff were friendly and were happy to assist with problems such as the room cards losing their charge.

Breakfast was complementary all the days we stayed. Idli, Sambar, Dosas, Avalakki/Vermicelli Oggarane, Chutneys, Stir Fried Vegetables and a small range of non-veg items were on offer everyday for breakfast. The food was excellent, simple and delicious. The dosas and also omlettes, were made on demand.

We once had room service, of some Biriyani and a Mixed Veg Curry, which was served in decent portion sizes, and also was delicious.

Internet was an issue, as the server had "crashed" throughout the time we were staying. Even so, the whole system of accessing the WIFI seemed very complicated. There was however, a convenient small room in the lobby with a single PC, from which we could access internet.

The experience was peaceful, with no noise etc.

The hotel is close to many shopping areas, Commercial Street in particular, as well as the Eye Hospital and many other places of interest for tourists.

Lastly, the hotel offers an extended checkout, which proved to be VERY convenient for us. We were charged a fair 1000 rupees extra for an extended checkout, for one room. This is ideal if you shop for a day, and wish to refresh in the evening before leaving Bangalore.

We recently had our daughter's first birthtday celebration at the hotel and even couple of our guests stayed there. Since we were dealing with them for the first time, we had lot of doubts but they delivered whatever was committed to us. Even the stay of our guests was quite comfortable. The major plus for this property is the location. It was very convenient for all the guests to travel/find this place. I will strongly recommend it.

This hotel was a decent experience. It wasn't a cheap hotel type and superior room was quite comfortable. Great location as most offices and shopping places are quite closeby. Internet was chargeable and room service was quite good....

Room Tip: If you get a deal, this place is worth it, otherwise many better places closer to brigades or mg roa...

We spent three night in this hotel, which is located central and easy to reach, even by walk, the Cubbon Park, MG Road, Cricket Stadium.
I booked a double room and got a room with two single beds. We reached mid of the night and we were too tired to complain. Next morning they gave the same room for someone else. Finally they clarified at the reception and we had nothing to do.
The room was clean, breakfast was delicious, we were also satisfied with the room service. My only complain would be the bed, it was very hard :)
Who want to go an avarage hotel on an avarage price, I can recommend it!
