Owner description: Basavangudi is one of the few areas in Bangalore that have retained its old-world charm. A residential area with quaint homes, leafy roads, markets and temples, a walk here can take you back in time. Always buzzing with activity, Basavanagudi buzzes even more feverishly before festivals. There are numerous restaurants here, some institutions in themselves. This is a good place to feast on idlis (savory cake), dosas (savory pancakes) and the famous filter kaapi (coffee).

“Very crowded and dirty on days”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Basavanagudi surely must have seen better days. Now it looks overcrowded. Garbage is left behind by vendors in Gandhi Bazzar. Restaurants are phenomenal especially Mahalaxmi tiffin rooms Vidyarthi Bhavan. The famous Ganesha temple is crowded. Basava temple is still a beauty and bugle rock area is a haven if peace and calm. MNK Rao park retains charm while Tagore circle is a complete mess

Fragrance from flower market is great during festival days. However post festival garbage is a sight I would rather not behold.

As a tourist I would simply visit the three temples eat in one of the local restaurants mentioned earlier avoid the centre and run

“Quintessential Bangalore”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Bangalore history and culture is still alive thanks to Basavanagudi (adjoining areas), patches of Malleshwaram, Chamarajapet, Vijayanagar and Jayanagar.
Pls boycott McDonald's, KFC and have genuine non-violent south-Indian 'almost homemade' food - super places for Dosas, Idly's etc

“coffee and vada”

Superb taste. It is a stand and eat joint. Good taste. But a little far away from where I stay. It is one of the oldest joints in Bangalore.
