Owner description: Basavangudi is one of the few areas in Bangalore that have retained its old-world charm. A residential area with quaint homes, leafy roads, markets and temples, a walk here can take you back in time. Always buzzing with activity, Basavanagudi buzzes even more feverishly before festivals. There are numerous restaurants here, some institutions in themselves. This is a good place to feast on idlis (savory cake), dosas (savory pancakes) and the famous filter kaapi (coffee).

I'm surprised to see Basavanagudi being rated as an attraction. I have lived in Bangalore all my life and this is an old area of the city, that's all.
Yes it does have some popular temples and veg restaurants, but its essentially a crowded low end shopping area, it's much better to rate individual attractions than the area or else it would be very misleading.

A place which is etched in my memory for its unchanging scenario - Gandhi bazaar - a part of Basavangudi is a place one should visit during the festival season - it is a feast to the eyes and one gets captivated by the engulfing din which at the same time alleviates the mind! I never miss the seasonal visit - sometimes just to be an observer to all the drama that unfolds and of course, many a time to feel the adrenalin rush while bargaining and getting what I want! A place for foodies - South Indian fare at the Adyar Anand Bhavan, filtered coffee and the rich variety of dosas at Vidyarthi Bhavan, ethnic North Karnataka food at Athithya juxtaposed with Mac Donalds leave you wanting for more......Krishna Rao Park is a place which is the hub of some green lung space, The Dodda Ganesha and Gavi Gangadhareshwara temples for the pious, reputed educational centres like National College and schools like Sri Kumarans, Mahila Seva Samaj for the studious, Kims hospital to take care of the sick, Theosophical Society and the Ramakrishna Ashram for the spiritual seekers - all these with the shopping areas are the main attractions for a first time visitor, and if you are in this area during any festival then you will be carried on with the flow! And, as my mother always says, you will want to buy everything from the betel leaves, flowers, fruits, the colorful plastic items to the saris in all their resplendent hues! You have to visit this place to experience and understand what I am telling. I just love this place !

Clean, quiet, giant. It was a trip down memory lane for me. Our kids who are US born and bred visited the place for the first time and enjoyed the temple. We went in the middle of the week and there was not much off crowd there.

The temple is at an elevated place adjoining a large park and kids play area... From the temple you can get to the busy shopping area.. access traditional Bangalore
