Owner description: Basavangudi is one of the few areas in Bangalore that have retained its old-world charm. A residential area with quaint homes, leafy roads, markets and temples, a walk here can take you back in time. Always buzzing with activity, Basavanagudi buzzes even more feverishly before festivals. There are numerous restaurants here, some institutions in themselves. This is a good place to feast on idlis (savory cake), dosas (savory pancakes) and the famous filter kaapi (coffee).

You nearly get everything here, a to z. It has retained its past glory yet has embraced the new generation needs, and hence has a mix and match both for young and old. Needless to give more evidence that you would see this place always thronged with people who want to shop, eat, spend time with loved ones, etc.

I took public transport to reach basavannagudi on a holiday, the first thing that caught my attention is the contrast that area has when compared to most of the places in bangalore, this area got both the shades with Mcdonalds, subway etc as well as more tradinional restaurents. If u r a foodie, u gonna love this place!!
Coming to the temples, we have a ganesha temple and a bull temple and also small temples of different Gods interconnnected with a beautifull park. I went in the evening hours, it is very peacefull apart from the chorus of the 'Ba
ts' that u can hear coming from the trees in the park. p

Overall it is a good Area with good food and good temples, worth visiting once.
And btw do visit the Lord srikrishna temple built in the form of a hill(govardhana giri) being lifted by Lord Srikrishna and Ramakrishna mutt which are in walkable distance. :)

I visited the nearby Bull Temple, then took the time to stroll through the nearby Bugle Rock park, Gandhi bazaar and Basavanagudi. All these are in easy walking distance. The bazaar had the typical shops (clothing, sandals, housewares) you see everywhere else, lots of fresh foods, etc. Parking is not easy, so be prepared to park 500+ meters away and walking. Also, found several fine dining places in this area. Someone I know described Basavanagudi as the "Posh" place to be in Bangalore, a bit nicer than the other areas. It's worth a 1/2 day visit to the Bull Temple, walk the streets of Basavanagudi and then take a rickshaw (or walk...it's not terribly far) to Lal Bagh. These things together make a nice, pleasant full day.
