My husband, friend and I did the Passage to India tour and it was spectacular. The riding was super fun, mostly flat with some small hills. Getting to ride through the beautiful rural landscapes and small villages was so lovely. Our tour guide Thomas was fantastic, he took extra care to check in with us often to make sure we were okay. In addition to what was on the itinerary he made interesting stops along the way which added so much to an already great day. The woman harvesting silk worms was awesome!! Lunch was really delicious too.

Did the Nandi challenge trip half way through a 3 week trip to India in November/December 2012. We wanted a good leg stretch and the challenge of an "epic" ride. The trip was really enjoyable and our tour leader Thomas was excellent and really friendly. I knew it would be mainly road from the website photos, even though we were looking for some real mountain biking, but a little disappointed to find that there were no dirt tracks through villages as part of the trip.

The hill climb is reasonably challenging, but not particularly steep, so quite easy if you have a good fitness level and the views are great from the top, even though the haze means you don't see that much in the distance.

Lunch was good at the Nandi hills restaurant and the best bit was the green coconut juice after the descent and scneic ride around the base of Nandi hills :) Very refreshing!

Bikes were well maintained and comfortable. Tour took around 5 hours including lunch, temple visit and refreshment stop. Just right in terms of timing.

If you're looking for something active to do in India, I highly recommend Art of Bicycle.

Based on our experience, I can highly recommend this trip and company. For us, 11 days of cycling in Karnataka will long be remembered as a very special holiday. Other tripadvisor reviews were helpful in giving us the confidence to book with this fairly new company and to decide on cycling and traveling in India. Things couldn't have worked out better.

The information provided prior to travel was clear and helpful. Early November was a beautiful time to visit this area, with constant blue skies and comfortable temperatures. The cities are chaotic but the Art of Bicycle Tours had the right idea - use the van and driver to get to the quiet, scenic country roads, cycle and see the best that India has to offer, then finish the day back in the van to get to the hotel. The accommodation choices were excellent - from very comfortable and luxurious most days, to adequate (best available) in the most remote area.

Our guides were fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable, humorous and young at heart - truly happy and proud to share their country with us - more like companions with local knowledge than teachers. They hired other local guides to get the facts right at temples, a wildlife sanctuary and the Mysore Palace - but Poonacha and Sriram added their perspective to those visits as well.

The trip was truly all-inclusive with meals, snacks and extras all covered by ABT. The cooler in the van had lots of bottled water for us. The bicycles provided were amazing - new, Scott X50 hybrid bikes with 700C wheels, front suspension, disc brakes and 24 gears. Most roads were paved, occasionally broken pavement and only a few, very short sections of dirt road.

The scenery in Karnataka is wonderful - this trip started in the plains near Bangalore with interesting rock outcroppings, then crossing the rice fields and coconut groves and finally over the Western Ghats to the coast. The scenery in the mountains was spectacular - very little traffic takes this route and while we climbed to the highest point in the state, the trip had more downhill than uphill. We got lots of waves and smiles from the locals who were puzzled to see people traveling with a vehicle but choosing to cycle.

Go for it! You won't be disappointed.

I took the 40-km Passage to India tour with a 9 year old and a 10 year old. We had a fabulous time! Prani, our guide, was a great sport. The local restaurant and toy factory were an added bonus. What a wonderful way to see India. I would highly recommend this for any sporty family. Warning: there were some mild hills, traffic, and it was hot for the kids. Nevertheless, we would do it again! The office was very responsive to my needs for a private tour AND my schedule changes. I thought the price was very reasonable for the three of us and what we got for our money. Thanks thanks thanks!!

I would thoroughly recommend this trip - it was simply magical! We were a little worried that this was a local company of whom we knew nothing and we have been used to the large global operators in this field. We need not have worried at all. The itinerary was perfect and, with the interludes of visiting tea, rubber and cardomom plantations and spice gardens, we had a perfect mixture of cycling and interesting things to do. The bikes were great and the hotels were a very good choice. The terrain was challenging, as its quite mountainous, but we did not need to get off and push at all, as all the climbs were just steady, slow hills, not steep at all. We got up to over 7,000 feet at one time and the views were simply breathtaking!

Our guide, Thomas, was wonderful, with his perfect English, he was both charming and interesting as well as caring and thoughtful. Selvam was much more than just a driver as he was at all times looking after us and keeping his eye on how we were doing, stopping at just the right time to give us rest, fresh water and food, exactly when we needed it. If we tired, and we did sometimes, then he was more than ready and willing to pack up the bikes and take us into the cool interior of the car for a while.

All in all it was a really good week and the very best cycling tour we have done anywhere in the world, and that is saying a lot..... as we have done cycling holidays in England, France, Italy, Cuba and Croatia. This one beat them all hands down!
