We recently stayed at the Woodrose Club (hotel operations by Zip / Spree Hotels) for a wedding and very much enjoyed our experience. The concierge at the front desk (Rajiv Mishra) and housekeeping were among the best we've encountered anywhere in the world and the facilities are quite good. Rooms are modern and everything works as it ought. The entire building is well designed. Another reviewer mentioned confusing corridors. They are confusing the first time you walk them, as the building is circular, but the architecture is overall a plus. The wide open, round spaces and high ceilings offer a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle outside the hotel.
Food at the in-house restaurant, The Melting Pot, is surprisingly good. We actually only tried the Indian (north and south Indian) selection and the breakfast buffet, which included various dosas and omelettes upon request, fresh fruit, juice, cold cereal, yogurt, iddly sambar and rotating selections, including baked beans, roasted tomatoes, khichdi, vada. At dinner, the north Indian dishes were better than the limited south Indian selections, which was interesting, given the location. There is also a well priced cafe on premises. My husband tried and liked the veggie puffs and plum cake. There are loaves of sliced bread, similar to Wonder Bread, available as well.
There is a gigantic, olympic sized pool, table tennis, a children's play area (mosquito-infested, unfortunately), a squash court, badminton court and smallish gym onsite. The adjoining Brigade Millenium campus is nice to look at, but the guards at the gates do NOT allow hotel guests to walk inside.
Rooms are modern, well cleaned, well lit, and well climate controlled. Our room with kitchenette was actually smaller and more expensive than friends' rooms, which I think were "superior rooms". The kitchenette has an additional microwave and hot plate, but no pots, china or utensils. Housekeeping was nice about providing us with utensils and china when we asked, but was unable to provide a pot. All rooms, I think, have small refrigerators and an electric kettle. Bathrooms are vented next to the showers and permanently open to the outdoors, which allows mosquitoes to enter. (This is a common design for residential bathrooms in many parts of India.) You can at least keep the bathroom door closed to avoid letting the mosquitoes into the bedroom and a plug-in mosquito repellent dispenser is provided. During our January stay, there were some mosquitoes that ventured in, but they weren't as bad of a problem as they might be in warmer months. Mosquitoes in Bengaluru do NOT generally carry malaria and my bites at least were not as large or itchy as bites I get at home (in NYC) during the summer.
We were on the first floor and traffic noise was noticeable, but especially with the white noise generated by the air conditioner, we had no trouble sleeping. Beds and pillows were quite comfortable.
For those traveling with a baby, no cribs are available from the hotel, but they did offer to contract the service out to a third party for about 80 US$ (I think for the duration of our three day stay).
The Woodrose Club is in JP Nagar, about 1.5 to 2 hours south of the airport, depending on traffic -- about 1000 rupees by metered taxi from the airport -- so it's quite far away from central, downtown Bengaluru. If you have business in the vicinity (or as in our case a wedding to attend at a venue in Jayanagar), this hotel is an excellent option.
