“Outstanding Service, Good Facilities, Obscure Location”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

We recently stayed at the Woodrose Club (hotel operations by Zip / Spree Hotels) for a wedding and very much enjoyed our experience. The concierge at the front desk (Rajiv Mishra) and housekeeping were among the best we've encountered anywhere in the world and the facilities are quite good. Rooms are modern and everything works as it ought. The entire building is well designed. Another reviewer mentioned confusing corridors. They are confusing the first time you walk them, as the building is circular, but the architecture is overall a plus. The wide open, round spaces and high ceilings offer a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle outside the hotel.

Food at the in-house restaurant, The Melting Pot, is surprisingly good. We actually only tried the Indian (north and south Indian) selection and the breakfast buffet, which included various dosas and omelettes upon request, fresh fruit, juice, cold cereal, yogurt, iddly sambar and rotating selections, including baked beans, roasted tomatoes, khichdi, vada. At dinner, the north Indian dishes were better than the limited south Indian selections, which was interesting, given the location. There is also a well priced cafe on premises. My husband tried and liked the veggie puffs and plum cake. There are loaves of sliced bread, similar to Wonder Bread, available as well.

There is a gigantic, olympic sized pool, table tennis, a children's play area (mosquito-infested, unfortunately), a squash court, badminton court and smallish gym onsite. The adjoining Brigade Millenium campus is nice to look at, but the guards at the gates do NOT allow hotel guests to walk inside.

Rooms are modern, well cleaned, well lit, and well climate controlled. Our room with kitchenette was actually smaller and more expensive than friends' rooms, which I think were "superior rooms". The kitchenette has an additional microwave and hot plate, but no pots, china or utensils. Housekeeping was nice about providing us with utensils and china when we asked, but was unable to provide a pot. All rooms, I think, have small refrigerators and an electric kettle. Bathrooms are vented next to the showers and permanently open to the outdoors, which allows mosquitoes to enter. (This is a common design for residential bathrooms in many parts of India.) You can at least keep the bathroom door closed to avoid letting the mosquitoes into the bedroom and a plug-in mosquito repellent dispenser is provided. During our January stay, there were some mosquitoes that ventured in, but they weren't as bad of a problem as they might be in warmer months. Mosquitoes in Bengaluru do NOT generally carry malaria and my bites at least were not as large or itchy as bites I get at home (in NYC) during the summer.

We were on the first floor and traffic noise was noticeable, but especially with the white noise generated by the air conditioner, we had no trouble sleeping. Beds and pillows were quite comfortable.

For those traveling with a baby, no cribs are available from the hotel, but they did offer to contract the service out to a third party for about 80 US$ (I think for the duration of our three day stay).

The Woodrose Club is in JP Nagar, about 1.5 to 2 hours south of the airport, depending on traffic -- about 1000 rupees by metered taxi from the airport -- so it's quite far away from central, downtown Bengaluru. If you have business in the vicinity (or as in our case a wedding to attend at a venue in Jayanagar), this hotel is an excellent option.

I stayed at the hotel for almost a month and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The rooms are luxurious, extremely spacious and very comfortable and affordable. The food was good and decently priced. The best part about the place is that you can have all the fun you want inside the campus itself which is loaded with fun filled activities like swimming, pool, lawn tennis, table tennis and an in house Lakme saloon (a haven for all the ladies). The place itself is self sufficient so you do not feel the need to venture out to satisfy your basic necessities. The hotel staff is welcoming and very cooperative and they try and ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. All in all, if you are visiting this side of Bangalore, you cannot find a better place to stay.

Thanks for your review of the ZiP by Spree at the Woodrose Club!

The biggest USP of the ZiP by Spree is the wide variety of facilities on offer - a list too vast to write here. Since your visit we have also opened our Spa which offers a wide variety of treatments. It is one of the largest spas in South Bangalore as well !

Hopefully that is one more reason to return to the ZiP by Spree! We look forward to welcoming you back soon !

stayed at the woodrose for 4 nights in November while in Bangalore for a wedding. The room accomodation was very basic but comfortable. Our room was very noisy with street noise and some sort of machinery running constantly. The staff were extremely good and accomodating to all our needs. The restaurant has very little ambiance but the food is good, great servie and very low price. Good value for the price.

Room Tip: we were on the 2nd floor close to the far end and it was really noisy. The a/c wooked well but you m...

Thanks for your feedback on your stay at the ZiP by Spree at Woodrose Club.

We apologize for the noise -- there was some construction in the neighbourhood in November, and also some internal renovation that was on-going at the Club. We were working to enhance the facilities. The work has completed satisfactorily, and the facilities are now enhanced -- especially the restaurant and Bar which has the "Wow" factor now !

We do hope you will visit us again, so that we can showcase the improvements made. We are glad to note that you enjoyed our "Do More" service!

We were amazed at the quality of service we received at the Woodrose. While the rooms are nice (higher floors are quieter) and the breakfast was awesome (and a welcome start to often chaotic, exhausting days), it was the staff that truly stood out. We were part of a large group of visitors (all of us new to India) in town for wedding – throughout our stay, we relied on the staff for countless small and large requests – from getting autos, to arranging a day trip to Mysore, late night arrivals, lost luggage, directions, etc. It was like having our own personal assistant throughout our trip! Staff like Dhirenda and Rajiv went out of their way to make our trip to Bangalore a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: higher floors are quieter.

Thanks so much for your feedback! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at the ZiP by Spree at Woodrose Club.

As we are located close to the MLR Convention Center, the leading convention centre in the area, I'm sure you found the location convenient.

I am happy that our team was able to fulfil your requests during your stay -- this is very much in line with our "Do more" ethos! We will compliment Dhirendra and Rajiv and they will no doubt be encouraged by your feedback.

We hope you will visit us again on your next visit to Bangalore !

We stayed here as a party of 7 for two weeks whilst visiting relatives all around Bangalore. Overall it was a great hotel with friendly staff. The gym facilities are decent but by far the best thing about the hotel is the evening dinner which was Outstanding.

My Admin team booked this hotel for my two day stay citing this as a good hotel but the reality was on the contrary. While the place is good with good greenary & space, it lacks the basic quality of a Hotel. As other reviwers pointedout, this is a club for residents of a big township, being run as a Hotel. The design, Architecture is very strange with long, curvey corridors and with confusing layout.

I reached at 10.30PM and was shocked with the entire experience. The name board of the Hotel was not having any lights and even local driver found it difficult to identify the place though the place had a big drive in portico which is quite spacious and visible from the main road. the reception area of the hotel did not give the feel of a Hotel at all. The reception area was not well lit with very dim lighting and did not have any one at the front desk to do a proper check-in. After a while very young boys in t-shirts appeared and tried to do the basic formalities. Restaurant was completely closed by 10.30 and i felt glad to atleast to get a loaf of bread. Rooms are good with lush green trees all around.

The name of the Hotel is also very confusing. A hotel chain called Spree Hotels runs this with the name 'ZIP by Spree Hotels'. But It is locally called Woodrose club. The group did not employ professional people and we can clearly feel Hotel is understaffed. The website of Spreehotels shows us a grand picture of the property, but reality is quite bitter.

Greetings from The Woodrose!

We thank you for your valuable feedback and tend to agree that The Woodrose is a combination of a lifestyle club with well furnished comfortable guest rooms with best in room amenities and leisure facilities.
Woodrose has been operational since 2006 and has been very well received by travellers who do not wish to stay in a typical hotel environment. Woodrose has won multiple architectural awards for its innovative and contemporary style. One such award is “The Recreational Architectural Award!” The architect created large lawns and retained many of trees to maintain the lushness and greenery of the facility. We are happy that you liked the ambiance and enjoyed the lush greenery.
Just a small clarification on the confusion in the name, Zip by Spree, a hotel brand, has recently taken over the management of the Rooms at The Woodrose. We are currently in transition and hence, going through the necessary changes such as lighting and signage in a phased manner.
Based on your feedback, we have increased the lighting for the property. While signage will be rectified in the near future, we apologize for the difficulty you faced in locating the place. We have detailed maps on our website and we have listed ourselves on Google Maps as well.
We sincerely thank you for taking the time to give us honest feedback that we can work on to improve the quality of our services. We do hope to have you with us the next time you are in Bangalore.

Best Regards,
With Warm Regards,

Woodrose Club is actually a club for residents of a township that is operated like a hotel. I selected this hotel because it is one of the few in South Bangalore with swimming pool. I checked in on Sunday afternoon hoping to enjoy swimming in the evening. But the club and swimming pool was swarming with club members, all from residential apartments nearby. I decided to skip my swimming that day. On Monday evening, there was a noisy party being hosted by one of the IT companies. Fortunately, the pool was deserted and I had a good swim. At the end of swimming when I asked the attended for a towel, he informed that they don't provide towel; he told me that I should have brought it from my room! On the next day morning, when I reached the swimming pool, I was informed that the pool is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. However, while checking out in the noon, I saw lots of kids using the pool.

The rooms are spacious but beds are too soft for comfort. Food and drinks are good and very reasonably priced. In short, it is good club for members but not a good hotel for guests.

Dear DKSud,

Thank you very much for staying with us during your recent visit to Bangalore.

We are extremely sorry that you could not use our swimming pool on all days during your stay here. The pool is closed on all Tuesdays for maintenance however we had allowed the Brigade School children on a special request that day. We have instructed our staff to accommodate requests, particularly from room guests for using leisure facilities and also provide amenities such as towels, soaps etc at the pool.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you due to this and do promise you that we will take all care to avoid such happenings in future. We are optimistic and do hope to have you with us whenever you visit Bangalore next.
