We stayed in Gorukana for just 1 night. We had taken the cottage which had one room and a bathroom. There was a small platform upstairs (which as made right above the bathroom) where they had put 2 small beds. All in all the cottage is good for a small family, but there is no extra space to move around inside. The rooms were clean and well maintained.

The property itself was spread around 10-12 acres and you can walk around for an hour or so. There is not much to do inside the property as they don't have any indoor/outdoor games or activities there.

The food at Gorukana was the best part. All 3 meals we had there were very good and tasty. Their staff is very courteous and service is also very good.

As part of the package there were some activities provided (wildlife sighting, cultural program, nature walk etc) which are all good for one time experience.

All in all if you want to stay for 1 day and go for the activities provided and enjoy the stay, Gorukana is a nice place. But for a longer stay, the lack of in-house activities might turn out to be a hindrance.

We happened to stay at BR hills for a weekend. Staying at akasa resort we were provided all our meals at Gorukana resort. (They are owned by same group)
The food was very good and beyond expectation. The staff was very warm and helpful. Will surely book with them next time.

Had the pleasure of experiencing Gorukana in May this year.

Thumbs up to the place. It is set amidst dense silver oak trees and the location is lovely. Well maintained cottages. Relaxed atmosphere.

Best part is the proximity from Bangalore. It is an ideal weekend get away for families with kids who wish to avoid too much travel time.

Fantastic hospitality. Prompt staff tend to patrons.

They have few interesting and off beat activities as part of the package. I thoroughly enjoyed the tribal dance and early morning nature walk/ bird watching expedition.

Double thumbs up to the weather. Evenings were pleasant and nights coooold.. ! The escape from bangalore's scorching sun was indeed very welcome. The early morning chill sets the mood to cuddle and gets one thinking as to how wonderful it would be if one could stay here forever.

Thumbs down to the food. It was very average and lacked flavor. Buffet replenishment failed to keep pace with hunger pangs of the guests. Desserts were namesakes.

The complimentary foot massage was a quickie and lasted less than 5 mins. This offering can definitely be improved.

The lake around the ayurveda centre had dried up. Am sure when it is full, it adds to the beauty of the place.

Kids who love to be involved in games and activities might not find this place interesting. If one is lucky, one might spot few wild animals during the evening safari. We dint have to use our cameras at all. Hopefully, next time, as we definitely intend to revisit and re-experience gorukana.

Being not very far from Bangalore its a perfect weekend Getaway. A Nice Property, Peaceful and Beautiful. We stayed in the tree house which was an experience. Service was also good. Each room is assigned with a guide who will tell you the details of the nearby places, where all we can go during the stay etc. I guess its slightly expensive as its charged per head and not per room, however with the fact that its contributing to NGO so is acceptable. Food is average not so great. They have a massage centre which was an add on.
Be very careful of insects etc nearby as its full of trees everywhere. I was bitten by an insect on my ears (yes both of them) and did not realize for 3-4 days unless it started laying eggs on my ears and then I had to get it medically removed.

My friend Smith and me spent 2 nights at Gorukana (21 & 22 March 2014) in the tent house. We are basically nature lovers while my friend is a Bird watching enthusiast I also like wild life of the 4 legged variety. While he was rewarded with ample sightings of Birds I had to be satisfied with just Elephants, wild boar, mongoose, barking deer and Malabar giant squirrel.
The place was quite nice and we found the Tent house very spacious and well equipped. The Toilet and Bathroom are very spacious, clean and with running hot and cold water. Only the climb up and down from the tent house to the reception/dining area is a bit strenuous if you are on the farther side of 50 like us.So I don't recommend older folks opting for tent house....go for the cottages which are accessible by cars. The pathway also needs more lights at night plus cleaning of the dried leaves which cover the stone steps and make them slippery at times. The food was quite good barring some repetitions.....which can be sorted out by some professional menu planning....not a big issue if you are staying for just 1 or 2 nights The strongest point of Gorukana is the people who run the place ....Vinod, Tara, Jadaiah, and a few others whose names I can't remember were all simply superb and ever smiling. Jadaiah need special mention as he is a master of many tricks...from escorting you to your Tent/ cottage, to being your wild life guide, temple and NGO visits up to Master of ceremonies at the evening tribal entertainment stage. I was amazed at his knowledge of the trees and the ease with which he rattled of their Botanical names( all correct....as I was myself a botany student )All in all a very nice place to visit and blend with nature......only choose appropriate season.

Room Tip: Senior people should avoid Tent house as the climb up and down can be taxing as it is on a small hum...

Great property, easily accessible from Bangalore, well-kept with good service. Caution to elderly people – not so easy for them as the property has uneven ground and steep gradients between the cottages and the reception area/restaurant. I did see many senior citizens but I do know that my parents for example would have found it hard to navigate.
Only crib – their mealtimes were completely out of sync with our schedules. Breakfast is 8.30-10, lunch 1.30-3, high tea 6.30-7.30 and dinner 8.30 pm onwards. This schedule simply does not work in families with young children. Lunch needs to be served by 12.30 or so and it makes it difficult that there is nothing served around 4 pm, when we all need some caffeine/milk and snacks! The restaurant serves a buffet which is decent (we all loved their homestyle yellow dal) but quite slow....starters and salad were being brought in from the kitchens even as people had already moved on to their second course or even dessert. It takes ages for a refill and portions esp of high-consumption items (cookies/bread/curd) need to be higher.
That aside, would highly recommend Gorukana.

Me and my husband wanted to take a short break from the stress of daily life. We didn't wanted to travel too far hence ended up going to gorukana for 2 days.Place is extremely peaceful and beautiful. Food is decent. Some improvement in food taste required. Our naturalist kept us occupied with the amazing tribal stories/cultural history and of course he was well versed with the nature. During the drive through the jungle we spotted - wild dogs, barking deer, elephants , bison, malabar squirrel, mongoose and Parasitic tree, along with numerous bird species. The room is very spacious and clean. Complimentary foot massage was an add on. Learning about the life there was an experience in itself. We had a wonderful time.
