Owner description: Ranganathittu is a bird sanctuary that can be visited throughout the year by bird lovers. Easily accessible from Bangalore, enroute to Mysore, visiting this place is a great option for both children and adults. Visit early in the morning and hire a boat. November heralds in the winter migrants who stay put until March, adding to the already numerous varieties of birds you can see here.

Went to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary in mid september 2013 for about an hour in the evening, as an unscheduled detour from the bangalore - mysore highway. This place was a pleasant surprise - lush greenery, beautiful birds and majestic crocodiles, well maintained gardens and a wonderful boat ride on the lake. Very affordable - i paid all of one hundred and thirty rupees for entry, boat ride and car parking. The boat guide explained that it was not the normal migratory season in september and there was only one species, the oriental white ibis, at the sanctuary. We saw several hundredbirds of the species and some really huge crocodiles basking on rocks in the middle of the lake. Loved the place - a must visit.

I have visited this sanctuary various time in all seasons and this places never disappointed me, whenever any relatives/friends comes to Bangalore, I always take them to Ranganathittu  , this sanctuary is well maintained as compare to other sanctuaries I have visited , Management is taking really good care of this place. People visiting Bangalore / Mysore can plan for one day visit. Birds Can be seen in any season – River Tern , Stone Plover , Tickle’s Blue Flycatcher , small blue King fisher , White throated kingfisher , Painted Stork, Asian Openbill Stork, Common Spoonbill, egrets, cormorants and pelicans during winter you can count many more bird species, apart from Bird one can enjoy closer look of marsh crocodiles.

We went to the bird sanctuary at a time when there were hardly any migratory birds. Yet, it was a memorable experience. You have to walk through an excellently done and maintained park that leads up to the water body. Life jackets are provided for the boating. Ask for it as the staff may not voluntarily provide you one. If possible carry binoculars, to watch the birds up close.

After a somewhat disappointing visit to Bandipur National Park, I made an unplanned to Ranganathittu at the suggestion of a colleague and was very surprised. In a visit of an hour or two, this very peaceful location makes a very nice stop on your travels in the Mysore area. The birds were interesting to observe, but the gardens were the highlight for me. Bring a good camera and dabble in your artistic side while here.

This Bird Sanctuary is a must seen item in Mysore, It is near mysore-bangalore highway. One should visit this place early morning. Entrance fee is around Rs 50 per person and the boating fee is almost same.
