If you visit Ladakh, you should go to this hotel!
It's very clean, food is good and the staff is kind.
I got very ill after a few days i was in Ladakh and the staff helped me with everything. I felt very safe. They took me to the nearest hospital and even there, they stayed with me.

we stayed at dragon for 2 days, unfortunately we had to shift the third day as Hotel Dragon closes on 1st October until the next tourist season.
But the 2 day stay was wonderful. The staff is cooperative and the rooms are spacious and clean.
The terrace area in front of the top floor rooms have an exhilarating view of the snow caps. The shanti stupa and the leh palace are also visible.
The food was nice but the Wifi service was a bit slow. The stay was enjoyable.

Room Tip: Room 133 is directly in front of the terrace area on the top floor and has a good view

The rooms are decent, location is good (close to city centre), and food is also decent. There is Internet, but it's very slow and unreliable.

My one issue with the hotel is that some of my gear was stolen by the hotel staff. I was moving rooms, and forgot a t-shirt and a pair of underwear in the room (technical gear, ~$100). Realising three hours later, I asked the staff about it, and they said that they found it, but then apparently they "lost" it, or in other words, stolen it (I persistently asked and it was never found, i.e. it must have been stolen). Instead of delivering the stuff I forgot to my room, it was stolen.

I can't give this hotel more than I'm giving it since some of the staff is simply dishonest.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a heater; ask if yours does if you think you might want one.

Masses of geranium flower pots greet you as you enter the grounds. Friendly helpful staff, good food in the restaurant, good packed lunches for day trips, rooms comfy - average but comfy. Handy location but watch the traffic zooming up the street outside.

We visited Leh for 7 nights and 8 days from 18th August to 25th August. On reaching Hotel we were received in traditional Ladhaki style. We stayed for 5 nights in Hotel Dragon in Leh, one night at Pangong Lake and one night at Hunder Village. We may mention here that the staff was very cordial particularly Amar who is a Manager and Krishna his deputy. Also Prakash who was in serving in the restaurant was always eager to provide hot food with smiling face. We would like to mention that cereals and food provided during breakfast and dinner was always fresh and warm. They were always eager to provide special dishes if desired. For instance instead of Tea we asked for Kashmiri Kawa, the same was provided. On last day we asked for French fries, chilly potatoes and veg Manchurian, the same was provided. In breakfast, we generally do not take tea or coffee, so we were provided with hot milk with Bourn vita. The location of Hotel is excellent. It is hardly 5 to 10 minutes walk to main Leh market. We stayed in suite room no 120. It had a very good view from room. There was a big common balcony having two round tables with chairs so we could relax in the room and also outside. Our room was on 2nd floor. The only problem was that there was no lift specially for a senior citizen like us otherwise it is a excellent place where you feel like home

Stayed here for 4 nights, did online booking with some advance payment. Booking process had some hiccups, Leh city usually suffers from internet/landline connectivity issues so follow-up on mobile phones can become a must. Pick-up and drop service from/to airport was professionally managed. Hotel has a traditional design structure, it also has a small garden in the ground floor sufficient for few people to have breakfast, tea, etc. I luckily got top floor (I think its 3rd floor) room adjacent to a wide balcony having a beautiful view of snow cap mountains. Terrace is also accessible and one can get 360 degree panoramic shots.

Room was spacious, clean with traditional furniture and a decent number of electrical points, attached toilet was clean, hygienic with modern bathroom and toiletry fittings, basic amenities like hot water, cable tv were all in place. Bedding was neat and comfortable. Windows are on the corridor side and as these can be the only source for ventilation, can create issues with privacy. Nevertheless spacious, clean and airy room certainly helps during acclimatization period.

Restaurant also had a traditional design with lot of details, staff were very polite and they served amazing food: Breakfast had typical Indian (mostly north) and Western options, lunch and dinner had North Indian, Ladakhi and Tibetan cuisine options, they also entertained special dietary requests. Spice levels were always less, I think this is mostly because of our foreign guests, but one can always get it customized. Depending on the number of guests present on the day servings can be either buffet based (if more people) or order from menu based (if less people). Packaged lunch provided for full day trips were always professionally packed.

Mine was not a packaged tour, I got the taxi and permits through hotel after getting to Leh, all arrangements were well handled in a very transparent way. Taxi fairs are regulated and one can get updated fairs on Ladakh's official website.

Location: hotel is around 500 meters from main market area however small shops for grocery, shawls, internet café, etc. will begin within 10 meters.

Overall it is a well maintained, safe and reasonably priced hotel with a caring staff, they certainly understand what is customer care and they are executing it nicely, I never had to request anything twice and I noticed the same for others. And of course the beauty of Ladakh and its people will certainly make your stay memorable for years to come.

Room Tip: For elderly people or individuals with weak heart or BP I would recommend lower floor rooms during a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Not many hotels or guest houses existed before Ladakh was put on the international tourist map. The first few hotels in Leh town of Ladakh came up early in the year 1974, when for the first time Ladakh was thrown open to tourists from all over the world. The opening up of Ladakh for tourists also marked the entry of entrepreneurs in the field of establishment and running of hotels to cater to the ever-growing needs of the tourists. Hotel Dragon in Leh town of Ladakh was the brainchild of one such entrepreneur named Din Mohammad of the Abdu family. The hotel had a humble beginning and today it has become synonymous with world class facilities and exemplary services. Those were the days when the tourist visiting from foreign countries was just a trickle. However, the scenario changed dramatically in the following years attracting a huge crowd from all over the world. This necessitated the need for increase in accommodation and expansion in facilities for the comfort of the tourists. ... more   less
