“MANASBAL LAKE From (RAPID TOURS TRAVELS)”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

The exquisite Lake is about 30 Kms.from Srinagar. It can be approached through two motorable roads, one from via Ganderbal and other from via Sumbal. The kidney shaped sheet of shimmering water, is about 3 Kms. long and is considered to be deepest Lake in Kashmir, maximum depth being over 60 feet. Though it is full of weeds and undergrowth of variegated nature. It is remarkably clear . This lend it to spear-fishing, which is a difficult art and sport to practice and master

On one side of the Lake is Hill Ali-tang, on gradual slop of which lies village of Kundabal. Around this area are very rich deposits of lime. Manasbal is a gracious sight towards sunset and it is enthralling sight that one sees as the hump above the Lake crossed. All round the Lake, on slopes, are cut into great terraces , relics of the days of Jehangir, the Great Mughal and his garden makers. The well known a Daroga Bagh lies on the northern bank of Lake. Nearby are the ruins of temple only part of which is visible above water level. At the higher ground is newly constructed beautifully Tourist Bungalow and Health club Hall also. A few huts from Government is available on rent. Besides, there is Boat Club where Kay ks and Canoes are available for Adventure Boat lovers. Manasbal is a place where a keen photographer can spend hours without a dull moment.

“Serene and Peaceful....”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

While Dal lake in Srinagar is all commercial and full of action, Manasbal lake offers absolutely serene and peaceful experience. Full of Lotus flowers and offers natural unspoiled views. Water is so clear that you can see the plants underneath it from Shikara. Along-side there is also a ancient temple which is half buried in earth.

Given that it is only a hour's drive from Srinagar, it is a must visit.

“The Best Lake”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

The best place we visited. Better than Dal lake with very few tourists, beautiful lotus blooms and much cleaner waters and an excellent garden where you can enjoy the serene lake. A photographer's delight

“Deepest Fresh Water Lake in Asia”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Manasbal Lake is a lake located in Safapora area of Ganderbal District in the State of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The name Manasbal is said to be a derivative of the Lake Manasarovar. Lake is encircled by three villages viz., Jarokbal, Kondabal (also called Kiln place, is situated on the north-eastern side of the lake) and Ganderbal and is stated to be the deepest lake (at 13 m or 43 ft depth) in India. The large growth of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) at the periphery of the lake (blooms during July and August) adds to the beauty of the clear waters of the lake. The Mughal garden, called the Garoka, (meaning bay window) built by Nur Jahan overlooks the lake.

The lake is a good place for birdwatching as it is one of the largest natural stamping grounds of Aquatic birds in Kashmir and has the sobriquet of "supreme gem of all Kashmir Lakes". The rootstocks of lotus plant which grows extensively in the lake are harvested and marketed, and also eaten by the local people.
