“The best property in Srinagar”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

This is no doubt one of the best kept properties in Srinagar. It is like nothing you have seen before. Visited this place in April 2012. The hotel sprawls more than a kilometre in length, boasts of the best view of the Dal lake, Gulmarg peaks, & is nestled in a mountain range. The hotel is home for some exotic birds, consists of the best tulips, apple & dry fruit trees, a dozen Chinar trees (a 100 to 300 years old), magnificent lawns & a deep royal nostalgia. In a way, it sums up Kashmir!

The complimentary breakfast is exhaustive. The Dal bar hosts the best views with your drink during the day. "The Chinar" restuarant at the hotel serves excellent a la carte food. But I was disappointed with the buffet spread at the other restaurant where we went for dinner.

The service is very good. The staff are cordial & your requirements are well catered for.

The options & treatments at the Spa are good. The swimming pool is warm. The Gym is pretty decent. Apart from table tennis, cycling, complimentary carriage ride, snooker, & a secret underground discotheque (which was closed, until I discovered it on my final day as it was undergoing a maintenance check up), there aren't many activities to do here. The hotel is not doing that well, & that explains the desperate pricing of rooms & food here.

The hotel consists of a variety of room options & we chose to stay in the Palace suite. For 15K a night, the room rates & the extra bed charges are expensive. The heater in the room was no good, & was constantly breaking down & we had to call the staff.

I would definitely wish to come back sometime & stay for a couple of days & unwind. No other better place in Srinagar than The Lalit Grand Palace, well if you've got the money to splurge of course.

My wife and I were somewhat hesitant to journey to Kashmir with some friends, but the staff at the Grand Palace did an excellent job at making us feel welcomed. In Srinagar I would suggest that it is one of only two places that I would consider staying. I would put this at the top of the list if only for what I thought was the location and the excellent securtiy that surronds that area of Srinagar. The service was always excellent and the front desk people were very helpful and accomodating.
The grounds are beautiful and the views are superb. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting under one of the the beautiful trees on their expansive lawn and watch the sun set over the mountains. I found the food to be very good, but it is more expensive than some of the nicer restaurants in town. We dined there mainly because you can have wine with your meal and drinks if you desire. The majority of the restaurants we found in Srinagar do not serve any adult beverages.

The spa is good and while I was there I mostly had it to myself. It is somewhat outdated, but it is well maintained.

I would suggest ground floor rooms because they are a little more spacious, but overall the hotel buildings are very well maintained and any of the rooms I saw would be acceptable.

The morning breakfast on weekends is held outside to accomodate a large number of guest and is buffet style with eggs prepared to order. We had dinner several times in the more formal dining room and I believe it is my favorite and I liked the old world feel.

The hotel is very centrally located and the area that it is located is heavily guarded and patrolled.
I am not sure when we are going back to Kashmir, but I would only consider staying at the Palace in Srinagar.

The LaLiT Grand Palace, in every way, is best hotel in Srinagar, better than other 5 stars around. The only drawback is very costly food. Try to get all your meals included in the stay when booking it.

the most beautiful property of srinagar.our family stay was on 26 jan 2013.we enjoyed the hospitality of the hotell staff.delicious food everytime.rooms are well equipped.ground floor rooms having open space outside room and are lil expensive than the other on 1st floor.but 1st floor rooms are more spacious and nice ,so my recomandation is not to pay extra for gf rooms ,provided u can climb stairs.heated pool and steam helped to relax more in -2 temp outside.must buy Lalit hotel royalty card membership as it gives u free stay as well a night free when u buy one,so its come very economical.view of dul lake is beautiful.overall it was fantastic stay at srinagar.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms r better.all rooms have same view.

And its really very much about location--as the vantage point is the encompassing view of the Dal lake.We stayed for two nights on our way back from Pahalgam.Where we stayed this time was in the New wing, unlike the last when the Older wing which was atmospheric to say the least. The buffet spread for breakfast was sumptuous but try having it outdoors in good weather as it is laid indoors as well as out under a shady tree.If you manage both the points then you are on your way to a more than superlative experience!
P.S The bar has the old world charm where you are likely to rub shoulders with resident celebrities. We did.

My family and I stayed at the Lalit palace for 5 nights.

The hotel is very spacious, spread over 30 acres, with a massive lawn and gardens in the front. Its probably got the best location in Srinagar, directly over-looking the Dal lake, though its a good 10-15 mins walk to there. The check-in was swift and the front desk was very courtious. The breakfast is very good and the staff serving at the restaurant were very hospitable and perfect example of a great service.

The rooms are spacious, with all modern amenities and very handly bathrooms. The room service and hospitality by the staff was just perfect, taking care and yet not intruding. Its truly a nice palace feel to the hotel. Its a 5-star in all round.

There were a few issues and thus i would give it a 4-star:
- the hotel advertises 2 restaurants but only Darbar hall seems to be operational. I have never seen the other restuarnt functional. Its important to have more than 1 eating option in a place like Srinagar. It cant be one-off as I met someone who had the same complain since their last visit.
- the travel desk needs to be a bit more honest. we asked for help in arranging a taxi to drop us to the market 10 mins away. The travel desk insisted on arranging a 4-hr hotel car at a very high cost. Never did they advise that there is a radio taxi service available in Srinagar which was good and cheap. We got to know from outsiders.
- the food at the restuarant is very high priced. One night, we visited the Taj Vivanta for dinner and trust me, our bill was 35% lower than the Lalit. The hotel needs to urgently get its food pricing corrected and also increase the menu items. With one restaurant, with limited menu and crazy prices, its not good. Mind you, the staff at the restaurant are excellent.

Overall, this is a great hotel for its rooms, lawns and the location. if they get the food, restaurants and other items organised, this can be a 5-star rated.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the ground floor, opening into the lawns.

It was the royal palace in Srinagar. It's big property with lots of open space. Very nicely decorated public area. It has heated indoor pool and a working gym. Since we stayed in end January, hotel had very little occupancy.

Rooms are like any other five star property, nothing much to mention. We stayed in ground floor opening up to lawn. That was nice as there was snow in the lawn. There are maple, apple trees in the lawn, garden is vast. Since it was end January, there couldn't be any flower. Dal Lake is visible from almost everywhere in the hotel. It's a two minute walk from the entrance and entrance is around 7-8 minutes walk from the building.

Service is good. Food quality is mediocre. Staff are always almost in attention mode standing next to the guest waiting for order, which at times almost intrusion to privacy.

Premium paid is for the grandeur of the place.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are good as it opens to garden.
