Best place to stay in Manali. The cottages are tastefully done, luxurious and a fully functional home. Travelled with kids and family and had a real good stay. The kitchen is well equipped and saves you the cost difference between a room and a cottage given that there were 3 adults and 2 children.
Nishat and the family spend all their time improving the property and interacting with guests and made our stay very homely,
The property is exceptional in every aspect and a visit for at least 3 nights is highly recommended. No need to evaluate other properties in Manali.

Best property in Manali. Based on a hill, the peaceful and tranquil ambience of this hotel will take your breath away. Beautiful castle like architecture, its very tastefully decorated by its owners Nishaat Mohi & his brother. Antique collectables are the highlight of this hotel. Each corner has something unique in it. Views from the Pool side are very picturesque.

We stayed in the family room which was huge with two four poster beds. Size of the bathroom was great with constant supply of hot water. And not to mention the panoramic views of the snow-peaks from the window of the room.

Excellent service. I was highly impressed by this property. If I ever go back to Manali, it will be because of "The Himalayan".

Room Tip: Ask for room no. 6 (family room) if you are travelling with your family.

i couldn't have asked for something more. it's just like a hidden gem in the himalayas. what a serene view from your hotel suite. i stayed in 2 room suite with a private garden and a balcony. there is nothing much i can ask for in the room as it is was fully equiped with all the basic necessities from microwave to dishes. for a while we thought we are stayin in our own home.
but yes onething where the hotelneed to look upon is the choice of breakfast the offered in the morning. it is not at all upto the standard of this hotel. the variety as well as the taste. if they can work upon this then its a gem of a hotel. i would definitely like to come n stay here again.

Room Tip: the view from each side is great so no tip. but if family size is big go for the family cottage with...

This property and your experience in it largely depends on what you are looking for. To begin with, the location is nice and quiet - away from the hustle and bustle of the mall road or salong valley. The achitecture is medieval and extremely quaint and resembles what you would expect from a castle.

We stayed in Chambers 2 and 3 and these are rooms which are ideal for a couple. You want the cottage if you are a larger family or friends group. The rooms (pictures available) is basic and functional but has a spectacular view of the snow capped mountains which makes for great viewing.

The staff stands out as extremely courteous, helpful and will go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

You need to be careful with your food choices. Stick to Indian fare and the food feels like it was made at home and they make it very well. Opting for another cuisine may disappoint you. The breakfast buffet is limited and you may need to go a-la carte if you are looking for eggs to be made the way you like it.

Dinner ends at 10 PM - So if you're planning to stay up late, they have a seating area next to the lobby, near the restaurant where you can engage in private dining and drinks (carry your own) and play cards or whatever tickles you. The staff will stay nearby to cater to your requests. You will have to make your dinner order by 930 PM. So have stuff packed if you plan on staying up late.

If you are looking for authentic European fare (steaks, sandwiches) - you may want to pop down the road to Johnsons bar and restaurant (Recommended).

Overall, the hotel has a nice location, awesome staff, homely food and not over the top. If you are looking for a more exotic experience, this is not the hotel for you.

On the other hand, if you want to keep it simple and enjoy the service and home cooked meals and the quiet of the place - this hotel is a must.

Tips

1) I cannot stress on the importance of having a good cabbie dedicated to you. Our trip was largely successful due to our cabbie and him making the extra effort to ensure we went to the right places and indulging in the right activities. (Advance tips may help in ensuring that they stay motivated).

2) Dont waste your time going to Naggar. There is nothing there but a dilapidated castle which has nothing in it.

3) If you are planning on paragliding at Salong Valley (The High Flying option after the ropeway) be warned - once you take the ropeway and reach the top, you are required to walk/fall/slide across slippery snow slopes to get to the jump venue and you cannot turn back. This part is extremely dangerous so no matter what the guide sells you - they dont mention the approach. They also have medium flying options which are from below but not as good.

PS: Salong Valley is filthy and commercial. Gulaba/Rohtang Pass are way better options and much much cleaner.

4) If you are going to explore snow, paraglide or go to Salong/Gulaba/Rohtang - DO invest in the snow suits and boots. They were absolute life savers for us and I cant stress how much.

4) The Club House is fun - just go for kicks. Dont miss the ATV ride and the river crossing.

Room Tip: Cottages if you have a large family. They are well located with very good views. I saw a trampoline...

The himalayan resort and spa ......is a dream castle ..... Passionately build with great thought and detailing....we had a wonderful stay at the spacious cottage....the snow clad mountain view from the rooms was amazing .....loved the warm hospitality by the staff ....the food was nice .....though the buffet breakfast could have had more varietiy....the fire place in the rooms added to the charm of staying in a real stone castle ......one of the best properties at manali ....would like to applaud the effort and hard work of the owners in creating a beautiful experience for us .......

Room Tip: Cottage no 5 for the family ...it has an amazing view....the suite room is beautiful too...

The architecture is amazing...one feels like you are in, Scotland. Lovely pool...I think this is the only property in the area with it. Great staff, we had the opportunity to meet the owner of this wonderful property also..very courteous and delightful person. Will definitely visit again this summer. Throughly enjoyed ourselves:)

I have spent time in over 50 countries and stayed in the highest and lowest places, the himalyan is simply my number one for so many reasons.

Its not only the atmosphere and character of the himalayan thats special, people can also help make places, to be great places to be, and the director and staff certainly helped in this, with their expertise and conduct. They helped make our stay unforgettable, which was wonderful especially as we were on our honeymoon.

Their are so many stand out features with this place that i will limit myself to just a few, the veiws are simply breathtaking and unique. If you go up the tower/turret it gives a brilliant veiw of the valley especially at sunset, the tower/turret gives you an elevation to veiw the valley which from our stay in manali, was simply the best veiw we saw.

The cellar and the building generally has the exclusive and extremely atmospheric feeling of an old english castle, if you get the opportunity to speak to the director, and you get the chance of hearing about the story of the himalayan its a simply extraordinary story of someones visionary thinking becoming reality against the all the odds of terrain climate etc.

Both types of accommodation work brilliantly, the rooms in the main building and the cottages themselves reflect the style and the atmosphere of the place brilliantly.
The cottages also have the added bonus of giving the feeling of staying in your own home, which as a newly married couple was simply more than we could have hoped for! we wish we could have stayed for longer!
