We booked Johnson’s Hotel having read good reviews on Tripadvisor. Overall it was a very pleasant stay. I have visited Manali many times but didn’t want to be in the thick of Old Manali, nor in the bustling centre of Manali, so Johnson’s seemed to be ideal as it was between the two. It is surrounded by a very pretty and well maintained garden. We were initially offered a standard double room at the top of the hotel which was on a split-level – this was not ideal as we needed two single beds and one of us would have had to put a mattress on the floor. However, we were then offered to look at the remaining available rooms and selected a superior room on the ground floor overlooking the garden. The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated with a decent bathroom. Food and cocktails at Johnson’s Bar were excellent (if a little pricey), and we were greeted very warmly by the owner’s daughter who was charming. Staff at the front desk were welcoming, helpful and very friendly. For us there were only two negatives to our stay: firstly, the proximity to the road and therefore the noise of autos buzzing up and down all day long (not really a problem at night when you’re trying to sleep though), and secondly there was a bar nearby with very thumping music playing until about 1am one night. However I acknowledge this is not the fault at the hotel, it’s just it made it hard to sleep!

All in all I really enjoyed my stay at Johnson’s and would definitely recommend it as a very clean, comfortable and hospitable place to stay. There is a nice lawn for children to play on so it would be a good place for families too.
