If you feel amazed when you are in lap of nature and you are in Chandigarh. Then this Zoo deserves a visit. Its well maintained with healthy animals. But don't opt for a Tiger Safari , its just wastage of time and Money. Otherwise its a nice Zoo.

Approach Road : Poor ; Through a village; about 3Km off the Landara Road
Zoo Ticket : Rs. 30 Per person
We couldn't get the Golf Cart since it was really crowded.
The Zoo is huge and would require a good walk to cover the entire zoo. There are a lot of animals and are quite healthy to my surprise.
Zoo is actually build in a circular shape, so after entering the Zoo take a left turn to start with the Bengal Tigers, then White tigers, Lion, Giraffe and others.
Important thing to note : All Carnivorous animals go in their den at 4:45PM, so make sure you reach on time.
Very good outing for kids

It is spread over a huge area and lot of animal varieties are there but the number has reduced what it used to be ( probably paucity of funds) and since personal vehicles are prohibited now and on weekends the waiting time for zoo vehicles can be more than half an hour; but still it is a good break from the city atmosphere and good for children.

The chattbir zoo is a lovely place to visit with young kids. It's a clean place with ample place to spend time with the little ones. There are a variety of animals like the royal Bengal tiger, the babboon, crocodiles n deers n much more. Though there are carts available it's best to walk around the zoo. Fun place for kids with birds n animals who are kept in a relatively clean atmosphere. The lion safari is fun we sighted one lion roaming outside n two around a fence. Definitely a fun place

I was at Chattbir Zoo on 25 Oct 13 with my family. We engaged a cart to go around the place. As soon as we paid & boarded the cart, the guide cum driver, who was a local young lad, shot us to another cart without taking us to the cages falling on or off the way.He ignored us when we asked him to show us the cages on the way. He asked us to board the another waiting cart which had already covered a good part of the zoo. The other cart-wallah was also similarly trained to deceit the visitors. He took us to a spot where he said that we can ride a bus for Lion Safari in Rs 20 per passenger. He informed that you will be taken to a jungle where Lions roam freely. We paid & boarded the bus. The bus driver was the crook of the highest level. As soon as the bus crossed the gates of the safari, he said the sighting of the Lion is not a routine feature. He very smartly asserted that if we pay him another Rs 50 (unofficially) he can guarantee the Lion sighting. After our acceptance he took us to a pre-decided spot where an old lean & debilitated Lion was pacing anxiously around a fence. He seemed to be not very happy about the visitors infringing his territory lured by these corrupt touts. The Zoo administration should check these malpractices.
