Trident, Gurgaon
Ranked #2 of 263 Hotels in Gurugram (Gurgaon)
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 8, 2013

The photoframe showing the 5-star rating from TripAdvisor is tucked away discreetly at the reception area - at that time I wondered whether this hotel really was that good. Well, after staying two nights at this hotel on the last days of May 2013 did confirm it - it is truly an excellent hotel. But I am getting ahead of myself.

I was on business and entering the Trident for checking-in one evening felt like I was entering a resort. The next day, looking at the overall architecture and the ambience and the attempt to infuse the dry and dusty areas of Gurgaon with greenery makes the Trident feel like a resort. Honestly, you don't realise that it's GURGAON - for heaven's sake - which is out there. The Trident may be the poor sibling of the Oberoi, but it puts up a good fight and on occasions, wins it.

At check-in you are accompanied to the room by the staff who explain the overall layout and other features. They also ask you what newspapers you'd like to read in the morning. Now this is a true test of service - I was disappointed with the next-door Oberoi Gurgaon once because they didn't insert the paper I wanted. So would the Trident succeed? Well, you have to read on!

Getting to my room involved walking through a narrow and very long corridor - it is something you cannot get used to easily. It is like walking in a dream sequence. My room was adequately sized and had all the furniture required for the business traveller - including a writing desk and chair and a settee and a round centre table. The ambience is warm and the large windows give you a view of the lawn outside. The bathroom is well appointed too, with the potty placed diagonally - no issue. No shower cubicle - but there is a bathtub. I seriously think about the utility of bathtubs in hotels that are not exactly resorts. Now that we are in the bathroom, might as well tell you about two cribs - one is that if you take a shower with strong jets of water, you can be pretty sure to end up with a swimming pool on the bathroom floor. And the other crib is the ridiculous lack of a jetspray near the potty seat. We are Indians and we are not exactly the world's largest users of toilet paper.

But apart of these two issues, the Trident is really fantastic. The room is comfortable, well maintained and the fit and finish is excellent. The plumbing in the bathroom is brilliant - loved the shower and its settings. The bed is comfortable. It is quiet. And in the morning, there it was, all the newspapers I had asked for hanging out of the door. Good show, Trident! It gets better. The hotel architecture, with faint traces of Islamic architechture is simple but beautiful. And maintenance, cleanliness and fit and finish is top notch. Believe me, I especially looked out for with a keen eye for dusty or mildly dirty corners, but didn't find any. Impeccable. Even the choice of materials used for the hotel is one cut above what you'd expect.

The breakfast spread is pretty good and there is an excellent choice. One of the lady chefs there I met on both days of my stay asked for my opinion of the food and was attentive enough to understand my comments on one or two of the items kept there. And she knew my name as well! The service of the staff is genuine, and it goes right down to the security man, who left his post to help me with my luggage when I was checking out. Really, the Trident has many things going for it, but I think the genuine service attitude of the staff is the greatest aspect - many fancy and ridiculously expensive hotels I have stayed abroad could send their staff here for some much-needed coaching.

Overall I am very impressed with the Trident Gurgaon, and yes, it deserves that rating.

Room Tip: Ask for one that does not involve walking down the long corridors!

On our last night in India we stayed at the Trident.. Very convenient for the international airport. It looks spectacular with unusual architectural features. Top quality bussiness people hotel. Lovely room but a long way from main reception area. The view over the water garden however made it worth. The food is extremely expensive but good. Typical of expense account eating. At our age sometimes is noit possible to go out in the evening.

On arrival after the flight from Shirnagar we hat a smaal tin of Tonic water and a packet of digestive biscuits £26.00

Room Tip: water garden view. (but could be a long walk to reach the room)

Fantastically designed hotel building and grounds , an oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the growing commercial environment outside the walls of this comfortable hideaway. Once you check into this hotel you are transported into this sanctuary of quiet relaxing music and incense wafting through the halls and common areas. Great equipped spa and small pool for those relaxing weekends. Rooms are well designed and comfortable , drawback is the distance you need to walk to the reception due to he low height density being only a few stories high. Not a cheap choice as can be quite expensive over US $350 per night. However very cool and comfortable place to stay. They also have their sister hotel the Oberoi right next door that you can also visit to shop of eat.

Room Tip: Get a room as close to reception as possible especially if you have elderly people traveling with yo...

I had the pleasure of staying in the Trident Oberoi, Gurgaon, for 3 days in the last week of April. As this was a business trip I spent only the nights in the hotel.

I really liked the overall ambience of hospitality, the courtesy of the staff and the responsiveness to needs. The architecture is a marvel, worth taking a walk around.

First time to the Trident which is adjacent to the new Oberoi. The property is quite spacious, average rooms, good internet and spa. Mostly a business hotel with lively bar, quite attentive staff and a great restaurant (Saffron). I at at Saffron 3 nights and each night the food and service were amazing. Definitely will return.

Room Tip: Most all rooms are situated for privacy and quite.

I stayed here for a week on a business trip and the first evening when I checked in the shallow infinity pool with flames in the background entrance was very impressive. The entire property is one or two floors only, unlike most city hotels these days which gave it a very good look and feel.

While the hotel is beautifully constructed my room was a bit of a let down. One of the most basic rooms I have seen at a 5 star and though there was nothing in particular that was wrong it just left me with a feeling of something being amiss.

The staff was very nice and the food excellent.

I know this is largely a business hotel but I stayed here to do some shopping . I was a female , traveling alone and I could not have been so well looked after. It's a great hotel, food, ambience, service all fantastic. The staff especially could not do enough for me, Ankush the front desk manger, was both efficient and attentive, typical of the service you get at the Trident. Recommend it without question, for whatever purpose you are in india .
