“One of the Bird Watching Spots in NCR”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

It is located near Delhi and takes around 1-2hours. The place has been maintained very well by Haryana Tourism Corporation. During winters, it is one of the best bird watching spots in NCR.

“Birds of different feather flock here”

Great place for outdoor activity. The lake attracts migratory birds from end nov till jan. Siberian crane and many more. Do carry binoculars and a camera. It has nice open grounds. Try to carry a picnic hamper preferably.

“poorly managed but with tremendous scope for improvement !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

I went with friends on a Sunday from Gurgaon...had to navigate & check with people many times. The route has no board or directions & you have to go through narrow markets, dusty unlevelled roads at places. Entry tickets have long queues & once inside, you are on your own. There is a long winding walk that takes you around a lake where you see birds & just about it ! There is a restaurant outside the sanctuary & although my guess is it would be pretty average so we didnt want to venture there. It does get crowded nevertheless on Sundays !
There is no proper parking for cars available & almost everyone parked on sides of the busy road outside.

“Favourite outing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

I head out to Sultanpur pretty often, reach there by around 0830 and then spend time till around 1600hrs out there, hitting the Gurgaon highway before the maddening office rush begins.
About the place: Its a bird sanctuary, not a picnic zone. So yes, the roads are a bit wild and uneven (some like to maintain as close as possible to a Jungle). The birds tend to stay far away and so its as difficult to spot birds here as in any other bird sanctuary.

There are lots of birds here in the summer season too, though ofcourse the winters are when the migratory birds are in full flow. Spend some time ambling around with the binoculars and you will see lots like the Pond Heron, Purple Heron, Pint Tail Ducks, Starlings, Eagles, Kites, kingfishers, Shrikes, Hoopoes, Owls, Rollers, Oriental White Eyes, Swamphens etc. Its a good idea to catch a guide if you are heading there for the first time. Also, carry those Binoculars.
