“Hardly a national Park Now”

Sultanpur National Park Bird Sanctuary
Reviewed October 26, 2012

It must have been awesome at some point in time, now it is so close to human habitation that you hardly see any birds there even in the peak season in winters. It is just 15-20 kms from Gurgaon and that makes it very accessible.

this is a good day trip from Delhi in the cooler months... especially when the monsoon has been at least average if not good...quite a lot of migratory birds can be seen nesting through out the winter months.. and the whole area is green and clean... bring a picnic and enjoy a full day walking around... weekends and school holidays are to be avoided if you prefer seclusion as it can get pretty crowded at those times

Being a naturalist tour leader i have been to the sultanpur lake for birding many times, as when i start my tours in delhi the first half day tour is mostly to sultanpur bird sanctuary and it is the best introduction to indian birding for the foreign visitor, everytime i am there i atleast manage to 60 different species of birds and the painted stork nestings are just marvelous. There is pathway made all around the lake and it takes good 2 to 3 hours to finish the entire circuit.

barring the restaurant witch served excellent hot pakoras and tea, the
trip was a dissapointment, more cows than birds, saw a couple of crows, and a peacock. dry lake was being blamed. i guess there could be other reasons too
