Located in Taj's Gateway Hotel in Vadodra, Gujarath, India, this is a speciality restaurant that serves Chinese, Thai & Japanese food.It has an open kitchen where you can sit on one of the tall bar stools at their live Teppanyaki counter, and watch the chefs at work, making your dinner. The Thai & Chinese food is good, but the restaurant's fame lies in its Japanese cuisine. The menu, though not extensive, covers the whole range- from salads & soup to dessert.
Although the restaurant has a la carte menu, its Japanese menu includes a set meal consisting of a small green salad, a Miso soup (which had seaweed, and tiny cubes of tofu and fish cakes). Then comes the exquisite sushi of prawn, tuna or Norwegian salmon.I found it comparable to the best sushi served in Bombay or Delhi restaurants. For the main course was a choice between pan-seared fish or chicken served in Teriyaki sauce, served with vegetables also cooked in a tangy sweet Teriyaki sauce. The meal ended with Thai style cut fruit with a choice of ice cream.I recommend the lychee ice cream.
The meal is long, but the service I prompt. The decor is subdued, the seating comfortable, with tables sufficiently apart to afford privacy. The central piece of decoration is a large round shield, probably an excellent replica, for the middle ages.At the door stands a larger than life statue of a Samurai warrior in full battle readiness.
The Japanese set meal, was not very expensive. But unless you are very hungry, Id recommend sushi & a main course.
