“Goddess of nature and paradise for birds”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

This is awesome place to see birds in their natural habitat. It is almost 20 minutes away from Jamangar on way to Rajkot and easily accessible. I went Khijadiya with my little 9 year old kid and he enjoyed a lot, captured beautiful images in wonderful atmosphere. We went in early morning nearly around Sun rise and it was absolutely heavenly climate in the park. We were unlucky to get guide but without guide we enjoyed different species of Indian as well as migrated birds from Russia and other parts. Most beautiful part is this place is not much crowded and that make it help you to spend more time in the park if you really love for bird watching. As it was birding season we were able to see lots of variety of birds. But it is advisable to go with powerful binocular and if you want to capture images you need high zoom camera.

“Unique Birding Experience”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

I am the most fortunate birder who was driven to the Sanctuary by not less than Shri mustakbhai of Hotel President himself and was accompanied by Shri Sindhiya saheb of the Forest Dept , Govt of Gujarat himself. As soon as we reached the office , he became our guide and showed us first the interpretation centre . At the entrance , on both sides , there were two pelican models . They were almost similar . I asked Sindhiyaji " Are they Dalmatian pelicans ? " To my amusement , he said " Yes . But the right one is . The left one is the Great white pelican . " Then he went on explaining the little but vital difference between the two . The Dalmatian pelicans originally from Dalmatiain Cratia are now extinct there . They are the largest among seven different types of pelicans . The large size , " punk " hairstyle , white iris and dark legs
separate them from the Great white ones .

Then he showed us nestings and colonies of Painted storks and Darters . He affectionately showed us a black necked stork sitted in her nest . The sight of her long black neck and head was arresting .

We moved to other partof the sanctuary where we could see number of common cranes, Flemingoes , Stints - Temminck's , Grebe - great crested , Swallows and a beautiful single file of flying Flemingoes about 20 in numbers . Then all of a sudden waves after waves of cranes came from the fields for nesting and we received much more thanRs 350 /- we paid as our entry and camera fees . Before we left, Shri Sindhiyaji took us along to show us a swallow's nest .

Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is safe in the hands of the Forest staff who know the sincere birder and helps him immensely to doccument the secrets and treasures of the Sanctuary.

“Excellent Place for Bird enthusiasts.”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

I went to the sanctuary inspired by photographs taken by Amish Patel (Find him on FB). Equipped with a zoom lens I went to the the Sanctuary if i could capture a few good images. I was left amazed by the variety of birds that flock this sanctuary. I was also disappointed at how this place is not that popular with the tourist that visit Gujarat. If you happen to be in the Saurashtra region and are en route to Gir or Diu. Give this place a visit.
