Indroda Nature Park
Reviewed January 23, 2013

This is a very good place to visit, a park with different themes like fossil park, botanical garden with cactus collection, a zoo all in a very natural surroundings. They have not built roads inside and all are just dusty paths and not at all flat surface. I visit it frequently and believe me, I feel as good as I'm on a jungle picnic. It is also very conviniently located just nearer to Ch-0 circle, Gandhinagar.

While its simply a park for most, its an interesting place to visit for natural world enthusiasts. One can easily spend a day visiting the dinosaur park, zoo, aviary and botanical garden.

The dinosaurs park is worth a visit for kids interested in dinosaurs. Apart from life sized models of dinosaurs (including those discovered in India like the Rajasaurus), they have an kept fossilized eggs of dinosaurs found in Gujarat.

The botanical garden has variety of cactus and other plants with Indian names.

The aviary has some interesting birds like white peacock.

One can easily find dears roaming around the park. They have an interesting exhibit of a 22m skeleton of a blue whale found on the coast of Gujarat. There are skeletons of dolphins and a Dugong as well.

We saw a white blackbuck for the first time.

First of all you need to get one thing clarified (it landed us in bit of a confusion).

As a tourist when you ask for Indroda nature park (hoping for it to be the Dino park as the internet says) in Gandhinagar, be prepared to get a few blank stares and strange glances. This is because Indroda park is a small garden where you will mostly find couples and some children. It is not much of an attraction with the local crowd.

A kilometer ahead of the local Indroda park you will find the Dinosaur and Fossil Park by the Geological Survey of India. Technically it is Indroda too but you are better off calling it the Dinosaur park.

It houses the 2nd biggest Saurapod Dino egg fossils in the world (brought from their original location of Rahioli near Balasinor in Gujarat) and the only one of its kind in India and 2nd largest in the world. Kids love this place coz there are life size replicas of the jurassic giants :)

Strategically placed Agave plants near fence wires around the Dino replicas have sharp pointy leaves which pierce the skin if you are not careful. It could swell up and turn blue but it heals itself in a couple of days so nothing to worry there. But if with kids, keep them away from those plants.

Dinosaur footprints (6.5 crore years old), fossilized bones etc. might not seem very interesting as they just look like stones but there is history there it is the only one of it kind in India so do take time to read everything on the board before looking at the display. It brings alive an era long gone by.

Apart from the Dino & Fossil park, Botanical garden and exhibition it also houses the Zoo and an Aviary.

The Entry Fee structure is reasonably priced but has various discounts-
Children under 5 years - Free
Children between 5 to 12 years - Rs. 10
12 years and above - Rs. 20
Students (school outings) - Rs 5
Physically challenged - Free
Film shoot - Rs 4000
