We went on a full moon night as a couple after reading the reviews on our visit to Ahmedabad. You can pay first at reception or go upstairs to get a regular thali for Rs.550 which is a bit high for a veg thali. The deluxe one was Rs.750 and has only a couple of bits extra but we didn't have that big an appetite. The starters were served promptly in the indoor area. The English spoken was very little and why we were seated indoors wasn't clear until I started reading the leaflet that I picked in the reception on what to expect there and the order of service. It also said all staff are from local villages and are given comfortable sustainable stay and we noticed their uniform included comfortable footwear etc which was nice. They are trained to say the names of the dishes and short English words and were courteous. The bathroom needs a bit more looking after as I found cockroaches in there but in India it is common and it was far away from kitchen areas. There were big fans spraying droplets of water to cool the area as we were seated outside in a dim lit lantern area and had everything served in traditional Indian vessels and crockery which was meant to be healthy. All the food was well cooked and delicious and reminded of older days of cooking in India and was flavoursome. Lovely Indian butter was provided with breads which reminded me of villages and fresh butter. Special welcome drink and buttermilk were provided and we bought extra mineral water. Under full moon the whole setting of an Indian haveli blossomed and we enjoyed that. Desserts were very sweet but traditional and moreish. True taste of Gujarat on a plate and unlimited refills. See pics for more. Knowing we came specially for the experience the manager asked if we would like to see the newly done roof top garden and function room and we gladly did then looked at photos of all world famous visitors since decades. There was a gift shop with local hand looms done as a social initiative. Overall, we liked the whole idea and concept and the attention to quality. Will go again but with bigger appetite next time.
