Description: 'Agashiye' in Gujarati means on the terrace. This beautiful restaurant is spread over two huge terraces are inter-connected by a smaller one that houses a small wooden cottage. At Agashiye, the food is freshly prepared, a lot of it in the terrace kitchen where you can see it. Our attempt is to retain the distinct flavours of the ingredients and we use both spices and oil sparingly. The menu at Agashiye changes daily and varies seasonally too, so an item that you particularly liked during a previous visit may not be there on the menu. Though we hope you'd find another favourite! The staff at Agashiye comprises mostly of men from neighboring villages. During dinner, they will guide you to the waiting area where you will be served juice and starters. You will be informed when your table is ready. During lunch, you are seated at your table right away. The food is served in a kansa thali immediately on being seated at the table. The meal starts with a choice of Indian breads and ends with rice. Servings are unlimited. The staff has been instructed not to constantly hover around you and yet be attentive. In case you have a specific requirement, a supervisor will be there to assist you. Please don't be surprised if you are served a non-Gujarati dish or hear non-Indian music at Agashiye. It is neither an ethnic nor a theme restaurant. It is meant to be a dining experience in a contemporary Gujarati home.Agashiye can be booked for parties of up to 400 people with a buffet setting.

“Full moon night on a terrace in a place of calm with good tasty authentic Gujarati food.”

We went on a full moon night as a couple after reading the reviews on our visit to Ahmedabad. You can pay first at reception or go upstairs to get a regular thali for Rs.550 which is a bit high for a veg thali. The deluxe one was Rs.750 and has only a couple of bits extra but we didn't have that big an appetite. The starters were served promptly in the indoor area. The English spoken was very little and why we were seated indoors wasn't clear until I started reading the leaflet that I picked in the reception on what to expect there and the order of service. It also said all staff are from local villages and are given comfortable sustainable stay and we noticed their uniform included comfortable footwear etc which was nice. They are trained to say the names of the dishes and short English words and were courteous. The bathroom needs a bit more looking after as I found cockroaches in there but in India it is common and it was far away from kitchen areas. There were big fans spraying droplets of water to cool the area as we were seated outside in a dim lit lantern area and had everything served in traditional Indian vessels and crockery which was meant to be healthy. All the food was well cooked and delicious and reminded of older days of cooking in India and was flavoursome. Lovely Indian butter was provided with breads which reminded me of villages and fresh butter. Special welcome drink and buttermilk were provided and we bought extra mineral water. Under full moon the whole setting of an Indian haveli blossomed and we enjoyed that. Desserts were very sweet but traditional and moreish. True taste of Gujarat on a plate and unlimited refills. See pics for more. Knowing we came specially for the experience the manager asked if we would like to see the newly done roof top garden and function room and we gladly did then looked at photos of all world famous visitors since decades. There was a gift shop with local hand looms done as a social initiative. Overall, we liked the whole idea and concept and the attention to quality. Will go again but with bigger appetite next time.

“Great Gujarati Cuisines.”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

A right venue to relish the authentic satvik gujarati food in a relaxed atmosphere.
One can choose from thali with vivid rich gujarati cuisines or choose local gujarati snacks as per the apetite of the person.

“Probably one of the best dining experiences in my life”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Its difficult to begin describing the wonderful experiences that I have had on my multiple visits to this amazing traditional Gujarati restaurant. Its location in the eastern wing of Ahmedabad just as you cross the Nehru bridge and exactly opposite the world renowned architectural masterpiece of the Sidi Sayyed Mosque one of its USPs. Its location is simply unparalleled to that of any other restaurant in Gujarat.

One is amazed to see how amazingly well this property which is considered to be a "heritage" property is maintained. The architecture is breathtakingly beautiful and extremely well maintained.

The ambience of the entire property and the restaurant itself gives one a feeling of being in a unique pre-colonial Gujarati environment. This experience can simply not be bought anywhere else.

The traditional Gujarati food and the exemplary service of the Agashiye staff is to die for. It really does feel amazing.

Although the rates may seem a bit steep for most locals, its surely a worthy price to pay for such an experience that is truly unique in each sense of the word.
