“Very peaceful, very beautiful”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Jama Masjid is quite large, impressive, and beautiful. Sitting in the middle of the old city and noisy crowded bazaars, it's a remarkably quiet and peaceful place. I visited a few of the other mosques in Ahmedabad, and none compares to the Jama Masjid. Just behind it are some tombs that are very interesting as well. If you're in Ahmedabad, do not miss this mosque.

“Beautiful and serene”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

See pictures and details on my blog:

On a pleasant morning we took a Heritage Walk to the Jama Masjid standing tall and grand at the center of the old Ahmedabad city. Built with yellow sandstone in 1400s by Ahmed Shah, it has a huge courtyard and a water tank in the center for praying and rituals. The prayer hall has multiple domes with intricate stone cut work supported by 100s of columns. The other three sides have pillars running across with Arabic writings on them. As the Sun rises behind the walls of the Masjid, the serenity and beauty of the place calms your soul and warms your heart

“Well worth visiting”

The architecture is very unique with hindu temple like carvings in the mosque. Best to go early in the morning. We went there as part of the heritage walk organized by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation

“Very serene”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

The Jama Masjid is beautiful in its serenity and expanse. The courtyard is perfect to sit, revere whatever you believe in, and the best part is that it is right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Old city. After a full day of site seeing, we reached the masjid and had a peaceful time sitting, talking and admiring its beauty.

“The vastness well hidden”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

If you walk on to a crowded old city street, you will never imagine a large, hidden, beautiful place of peace like the Jama Masjid. One of the largest mosques in India it is so well hidden that I almost missed it one my first trip. Six steps up and you're away from the maddening market on all sides. The carvings are gorgeous and the pillars make it one of the most unique mosques in India. Go, just to know that to get away from all the madness you dont necessarily need to leave the city.
