“Down the memory lane”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

It takes time to move around the see the entire area. I believe one needs to enjoy the serenity of the place. The place is on the bank of Sabarmati River and huge. It’s full of Gandhi’s photo. The place is reasonably well maintained.

“Educational”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

Mahatma Gandhi's home / ashram is worth a visit. It shows how this man, so respected in India (and elsewhere), lived and tells the story of his life. There are guides who show you how to spin cotton on site, using a traditional spinning wheel. You will see the extent and content of Gandhi's library.

I recommend that you go with an Indian Government accredited Indian guide to get the most out of this visit.

“Peace in the Simplicity!!”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

Sabarmati Ashram is where the father of the nation Mahatma Ghadhiji lived for around 12 years of his life. It is situated on bank of the river Sabarmati. It takes 2-3 hours to visit the ashram. The ashram timings are 8 AM to 6:30 PM. It closes after the evening prayer. Camera is allowed here.

The center of the ashram is called "Hriday Kunj", Gandhiji's cottage. It is very peaceful and simple. In the front part of it there is a "Charkha", which is always loved by him.
Apart from this there are other small cottages of Vinoba bhave, Miraben and Maganlal.

There is an open air Prayer place, where the daily prayer is performed. Anyone can join this prayer. It feels very peaceful in the mind during and after the prayer.

There is a Museum and Painting gallery, displaying things and life size paintings of Gandhiji. There is also a library. you can read or purchase books and materials related to Gandhiji from here.
