A complete contrast to the tranquility of the Gandhi Ashram! The Pols of the old city were fascinating and we spent a lot of time there; we walked the whole length of the city market, stopping for a little peace and quiet in JamaMasjid before continuing to the other end, climbing up to an old fort and seeing part of the market from above.

went to evening walk and then a couple of weeks later the morning one. both were extremely interesting and while a bit of a show case for the swish house of mg it was good to see a bit of the old parts of ahmedabad not just the malls and the stupendous traffic.the folk conducting the walk were courteus and knowledgeable.i much enjoyed and would recommend to any visit to amvadabad or whatever the hoi polloi want to call the city.250 rupes quite steep for the attached breakfast at yes youve guessed it the greenhouse(read house of mg!) restuarant. wlk up relief road and grap the fab marsala omlette at moti mahal maybe 30 rups but grat with their milky blacky coffee

The Heritage Walk of Ahmedabad is a guided walk of around two hours, which starts at eight in the morning at Swaminarayan Temple, and ends at Jumma Masjid. It takes you through most of the 'Pols, havelis and cityscape of Ahmedabad. There is short slide-show in the start of this walk which unfolds the city's history during the period of Ahmedshah and onwards. It is actually quite an old technology being used. This could surely be better in future. I don't know, but this may be also part of their concept.
The walk takes you to the chabutras (bird feeders) along the way; it is wonderful how these birds love to live along with humans. We also encountered a dog and cat having milk from the same plate. A wonderful sight. The surroundings sometimes is extremely dirty. People already know that lot of visitors take this route, it is weird that it is still kept shabby.
While walking through the thin lanes, it feels wonderful to gaze at beautiful and relaxed life around. Rani no Hajiro is a great historical space, Alas! again it could have been preserved better as a heritage place. Magnanimous Jama Masjid is a peaceful end to the walk - while taking pictures all through the walk, we managed to reach there at 11.00. It is a breathless and quite at that time.
Overall, morning time on a Sunday was really well spent..
