The Lou beach is a very good small hotel, staff are excelent. everything you need swimming pool, bar, close too beach. it is at the end of candolim so it is quiet, but lots going on round some fantastic places to eat as in Goa nothing is expensive. The bus stops at end of wee lane and costs 5 rupees to go to Calengute it is always empty as the end of the line is 2 stops further one, coming back in a tu tu is fantastic...A/c and Fridges are extra, but all rooms have good fans and are very clean. The karioki nights are brill and food very good i always got Prawn Curry so yummie and a great laugh. One of the best place to stay, safe, clean, great staff, good food, yes a bit away from Calengute - Bagga...either 10 ruppes on bus to bagga or a few hundred in tu tu or taxi....we loved going in but coming back was lovely....you can get safe deposit box for your bits if so take a wee lock with you i got one from Poundland perfect...

Just booked again to go back to what has become our best holiday ever! First time for us in November and we stumbled across Lui Beach, what a lovely place and the cheapest on Monarch website. The staff are wonderful and would do anything for you. Yes the accommodation is basic and you pay for a fridge, air con and safe deposit but you are paying for a 2 star hotel which in my view should be higher. The room are kept spotless and you will have lovely displays on your bed, clean towels and bedding everyday and you are given towels round the pool. Breakfast is tea or coffee and toast and there is always somewhere to sit. Pool is kept immaculate and u are 5 mins from the beach which is where we went everyday. Ignore the bad reviews Peter, Uju and Gaurish will all look after you and tipping goes a long way here guys this is a poor country. Can't understand how people are moaning about the rooms I've paid a lot more and never had clean towels everyday, I simply left a small tip which the guys really appreciate, yes it is at the quiet end but get in a tuk tuk or taxi for a pound and go further down if you want noisy bars.

As I said I've just booked again and I cannot wait to see the place again.

Room Tip: I stayed in the room above the reception at the back it was big and had everything we needed.

Firstly, this is India, so unless you spend loads of money to stay at the Taj, forget any ideas of European hotels and grading. This hotel is clean and has a great atmosphere. The owner and his family are friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic which is typical of these hotels, but are clean and cleaned every day, so unless you are spending your holiday in your room are perfectly adequate!

I agree with the last two reviews I would not stay here again!! The rooms are so small and the only air con is the ceiling fan which does not really help!! I did ask for a pool view but didn't get that instead I had a view of another scruffy building we did ask to move rooms but apparently it was full!! As I have seen in other reviews Peter saves the best rooms for guests that return each year I think this is very true!! Each morning in our bathroom we had numerous amounts of dead flies/insects not sure what they was!! Getting a shower was a nightmare there was hardly ever any water it used to dribble out then when it did come out it was scalding water!! I know you expect basic when you go to india but I would not stay here again I had family and friends staying in another nearby hotel that was much better than this!! Although the staff was friendly!!

Having been to candolim several times before we know that alot of the hotels can be basic but this was basic and dirty!, we stayed in room 117 which was quite near the road, we arrived late at night and was welcomed by the staff with a cold beer which was lovely but other than that we dont really have much good to say about the place. Our room didnt appear to have been cleaned for our arrival, we had around a dozen pigeons nesting around our balcony which meant there was bird crap everywhere, the balcony was small and dirty, littered with bird droppings which had obviously been there weeks, plus its so small you cant sit out there, the balcony at the back of the room constantly had a pool of water on it which we assume was from the faulty air con unit (more on that later!!), after our first sleepless night from road noise and pigeons we asked to change rooms but this was refused, apparently the hotel was full but it was evident when walking around the place that there was plenty of rooms vacant. Back to the room - you was expected to pay for the use of the fridge, which was filthy and had to be plugged in at the only socket which was by the mirror, so for ladies using hairdryers and hair straighteners this was awkward, having to unplug everything constantly, also plugging in a mosquito plug used up that one socket!!, you had to pay for the air con which was faulty in our room, it wasnt that cold and it also gave you abit of a shock when you touched it, we refused to pay and used the fans instead but they looked they were hanging off the ceiling by a piece of wire, the balcony doors never locked properly and had gaps alround, the curtains at the balcony doors were near on transparent and didnt even fit the size of the doors, the shower was ok but the bathroom was never cleaned properly, we couldnt get the telly in the room to work, there were no candles or a torch in the room for when the electricity goes off yet they said they provided this for you, on the back of the door was a list of rules stating that you couldnt eat or drink anything you bought outside of lui beach on the premises, you wasnt allowed to wash your clothes in their water, you couldnt have guests back to your room etc which we just ignored, you had to pay for your locker and apart from tea, coffee, juice and toast anything else you had for breakfast (like eggs) you had to pay for, but the service at breakfast was slow and sloppy and for what they charged we just went off and ate elsewhere, the pool area did look clean and so did the pool which had a massive tree right over it so leaves constantly fell off into the water but it was cleaned all the time. Location wasnt brilliant for us, we felt it was too far out the way, ive read that some people said its a 10 minute walk to the main part of candolim but its more like 25 mins and we're in our thirties and dont mind walking, it was only 5 mins from the beach though, the staff are lovely and the boys who clean your room do nice things like making animals and things out of the towels but thats it, we love candolim and are going back at christmas, we dont normally moan about things but we think its only fair that people are made aware of what they could get if they stay at the Lui beach, for what you pay to stay there you can stay elsewhere and it would be 10 times nicer

After reading the other reviews I am wondering if we stayed in the same place.
We were in room 103 really small and no A/C and certainly not clean!
The bedding and towels were fine and changed often but the rest of the room needed a good spring clean. The whole time we were there the bathroom was not cleaned properly and I had to wipe the sink and loo round myself as I would have done at home...but I was on holiday and should not have had to do housework! If the room guys paid more attention to the cleanliness of the rooms instead of making towel animals it might be better. Layers of dust covered every surface.( If you happen to stay in room 103 check out the half clean picture above the bed Yeah petty but I did it to see if they noticed..)
The shower head was blocked and told them and it was fixed but still there was just a trickle of cold water and scalding hot so you could not safely use it with out running the risk of being scalded if some one in another room flushed the loo. So we still had to make do with "bucket and jug showers"
Peter although a great guy (and the staff were lovely too) made us feel really guilty about going away for 4 days and missing the Xmas night party he had planned and at every opportunity tried to guilt trip us into returning from our friends to attend and even said he would be terribly offended by our absence! Erm I thought it was OUR holiday??
Breakfast (complimentary) was insufficient as mentioned before.
The staff in the bar were great and we always had a night cap with the rest of the guests before going to bed and this was lovely all chatting about what we had done and having a laugh with staff. The pool was kept nice and clean and plenty of beds if you wanted to lounge there and attentive staff to keep you topped up with drinks and snacks.
So all in all its not too bad as a location and 2 star accommodation but we have stayed in better beach huts.
