Return visitor to Santana Beach and extremely disappointed with the experience this time. Will not be returning. The gardens are beautiful and the water features had been added since last time. Scratch beneath the surface though and you will find arrogant management who only care about money. And find it difficult making eye contact with the females of the party.

Pros:
Very close the the beach and the calamari a Beach Shack
Beautiful surroundings/ gardens
Nice pool/ bar area

Cons:
Expensive drinks at least double resort prices
House boys only interested in money- repeatedly asked for 3 towels as there were three in our room and more often than not got inly two. never saw them hardly and then on last day miraculously turned up
Minibar expensive and only stocked up when I asked

Experience:
Organised taxi with hotel before flying and was told it would be 1600 rupees (£20). Also explained that a member of the party had a lung condition and requested an upgrade to one of the bigger rooms if one became available. Was told that check in was 12 but that they would try to give us a room if one was available. Was also told that all 2 beds were sold but they would upgrade if one became available. Fair enough.
Taxi arrived and we arrived at the hotel at 9am Goa time reception staff who didn't even give eye contact and never smiled or greeted us or offered us any refreshments. The taxi driver was hanging about so we paid him £20. We snoozed in reception until our rooms became available at 11am.
We were given room 525 which was supposed to be for three people but wasn't really adequate. My daughter and her boyfriend were given 516, a much bigger room for two with separate kitchen and bathroom areas. 525 was also on the road and didn't have any natural light so before unpacking we kindly asked the Manager if we could be moved.
We were moved to 605 right beside the pool bar. Still on the road and with no natural light but it had a separate bedroom which offered more privacy! Plus by this time we were too tired to argue.
Avoid this room!! The patio area could not be used as it was covered constantly in bird faeces. We were never offered an upgrade as requested but interestingly we spoke to a couple by the pool who couldn't understand why they had been given such a large two bed apartment! Another elderly couple, one with a walking stick had requested that they be given a room near reception as
One had difficulty walking. they were given a room as far away as possible. It really was beyond belief. The shower provided hot water for 30 seconds maximum which for three ladies is a nightmare. We asked them to look at the shower but either they didn't or they did and nothing could be done.
We were asked at least 4 times whether or not we had paid for the taxi and we told them that we had paid the driver. We decided to pay the room bill after the first week and was astonished that it came to over £100 as we hadn't used the minibar for much and had only had drinks at he pool bar on a few occasions ( the room bills for the second week only came to a fiver by the way). We were once again asked about the taxi and when we questioned whether or not this had been put on the bill they denied it. They said that he taxi driver had told them he hadn't been paid. Someone was obviously lying. We asked again if they had put the taxi on the bill and they admitted they had! We were amazed. I have NEVER been so insulted in all my life and I have NEVER been accused Of being both dishonest and a thief EVER! They took 1300 rupees off the bill (£15) but from that point our holiday was spoiled. We never received an apology. We felt extremely uncomfortable every time we went to reception. The day before we flew home we were asked numerous times what time we were due to leave and no fewer than 6 boys turned up at 4am to help us vacate the room! Talk about overkill especially when we hadn't seen than all fortnight.

Tip: Spend less money on the water features and paintings and more on the showers and customer service!! Listen to your customer requests ...Oh and don't accuse honest guests of not paying a taxi fare! Believe me I would not lose face over £20

Room Tip: Avoid 605 if you want to sit on your patio!

Dear guest,
I was really sad to hear that you were disappointed with the service we provided you during your last visit - i can assure you that we really value our guests specially those who return year after year.

Regarding your issue with the taxi - unfortunately this was a miscommunication on our part. We normally inform guests not to pay the taxi as it automatically gets added to the room bill when a guest pre books the pickup. I apologise for this and please rest assured that none of this was done on purpose and trust me we would not over charge you by 20 quid either at the risk of loosing face with a guest!!!!!!

I have noted your comments about the rooms and i have already proposed upgrading both 525 and 605 to address the issues you have raised. We allocate rooms as best as we can, unless people tell us in advance about their preferences, its very difficult to predict who likes what. You were told on booking that you would get a bigger apartment IF AVAILABLE, as this wasnt available for the duration of your stay, you were allocated a standard room.

With regards to mini bar prices i think you will find they are the same as our restaurant prices, most other hotels charge more for mini bar items that restaurant items, we dont believe in this. Minibars are restocked on a daily basis so i am not sure why you say you had to ask for it to be restocked.

Amazing place, people friendly in Goa and also the staff from the room cleaners to the pool staff, was very apprehensive before going but what a place, food at lunchtime in the splash bar was fab did not eat in the hotel in the evening did stop there for drinks at night though and were well looked after.

Room Tip: Dont' go for 316 not a nice view.

I stayed in Santana Beach Resort from 7th to 9th April with my 4 year old son. It was the most beautiful experience. The location is the Best. Resort is Bang opposite beautiful Beach The ambiance is on of the best. Coconut trees, lush green carpet........ Best ambiance to RELAX. Food Quality is nice. The Restaurant is near Pool. That makes your food experience Romantic.All and all i will surely return back.

Room Tip: See if you could get Pool view rooms.

This isnt a very posh or luxurious resort, but is very clean, well maintained and comfortable.We stayed there just for one night.The location is good...close to most beaches and other tourist attractions.The rooms are spacious , the staff hospitable and its very close to the beach.The food is pretty good and so is the live music at the restaurant.The Calamari beach shack right next door serves real good food and is perfectly located on the beach making it a perfect spot for a sunny lunch and a moonlit dinner.
Reasonably priced and good for larger groups.

Everything about this hotel is very good, staff great, rooms are very nice and some have been upgraded. Food, pools bar all excellent. Gardens lead straight to the beach. We book direct and love it, have been going for eight to nine years. ( Hopefully not too many new patrons as that my make it more difficult for us to get a room. !) Only joking this is a great hotel in a great position.
