“Nice hotel in Goa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2012

We have stayed at the Marquis Beach Resort, and the rooms are modern and nice, the pool fine and clean, the service and friendliness in top. They have a nice garden, which goes to the fine beach, and the have very nice Aurvedic massage in small house by the pool.
Food fine, but at breakfast we would love to have better bread - not only this flat white toastbread.
The small town had good restaurants and shops.
Nice hotel to stay on.

This was our 10th visit to Goa but our 1st stay at the Marquis. The bus that transfered us from the airport didn't attempt to negotiate the narrow road that led to the hotel, so we had to lug our luggage 250 yards up the lane to the hotel. Once there though, the hotel, pool and bar were a welcome sight.
The room that we were allocated was the smallest hotel room that I have ever stayed in and my wife was a bit miffed at the shortage of storage space. However, after these 2 initial dissapointments, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Even though breakfast was self service, staff would rush to our assistance, ask us what we wanted and bring it to us. Bacon wasn't on display, but if you asked for it to accompany your eggs, you got it. Great.
Beyond the pool and restaurant were well maintained gardens that led down some steps to the beach.
Meals at the hotel were a bit pricey and so like most people, we had lunch at the 'Palm and Sands' beach shack next door.
The Marquis is on Sinquerim beach, which is the quietist section of the sands. As you walk northwards and around the curve of the beach, you encounter Candolim and then Calangute beach. When we first came to Goa in 1999, there were 2 Beach Shacks on the Candolim stretch of sand, now its more like 100. It is heaving, but people obviously like it because they go back year after year. We hadn't been back for 5 years, and the difference is incredible.
In the evening there are lots of good local restauranrs to visit. At the bottom of the lane is 'The curry House'.If you turn left at the main road you find 'The Stonehouse'. Turn right at the main road and there is 'St Lucien', across the road is 'Shivers' - they do a Roast lunch carvery on Sundays. Further up the main road we found an Italian restaurant and a Himalayan restaurant.
We had a lovely 2 weeks in the North of Goa, and then went down South for a week.

I visited Goa with my fiance in August 2011. We had not planned our place of stay till then. After reaching Panjim, we hired a bike and started our search for a resort. After having taken a tour of many resorts near Calangute and Candolim, we settled on Marquis Beach Resort. It actually IS a Beach Resort. It has a beach right at the backyard. It is an AWESOME place to stay. It was my first time in Goa and i was truely Enchanted by this resort. The pool is good although they don't allow you to swim after 7pm. The restaurant is nice and the food is good too.
The only negative point is that the small path that leads you to this resort has a great deal of dogs that bark at you and follow you in the night. That is a lil scary but otherwise the resort is 9/10. My fiance and I sat with port wine at 12 midnight on the grass in the backyard near the beach and it was just like a fairy tale :) I am coming back this year in April again to Marquis :)

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, afterall one spends most of the time roaming around the city and its places...

this is the second year that we have stayed at the marquis as previous stay was excellent and location ideal.which was the reason we booked again for this year.
On returning today from my holiday I felt compelled to write this review as advice to those who are thinking of rebooking. The gardens are still well kept and our roomboy was excellent. Some of the waiters have an I dont care attitude and because Simon the manager thinks just because he has more sunbeds and upgraded garden furniture, and new bedding he can charge a large amount for everything including drinks and food At the end of your holiday if you have a late flight, he now wishes to charge 4000 rupees which is approx 50 pounds for a few hours. We spoke to our rep about a courtesy room as we would need to shower and change for our flight home after returning from the beach. She informed us that Simon no longer supplied a room (although there were empty rooms available) for such use unless we paid. He also informed her that he had never had night flights to supply rooms for. This is untrue as we had a night flight last year and the use of a courtesy room. She said that there was a shower by the pool that we could use and change in the toilets as this was the only facilitiy available.I dont think this is acceptable for a hotel that wants to upgrade. So if you value your wifes modesty and dignity be warned if you are on a night flight and do not want to pay his extortionate fee (average room fee anywhere else is approx £10 to £25) the only way to freshen up is to book somewhere else or get naked at the poolside.
Will still be back to goa next year but will be staying elsewhere hopefully with a courtesy room

Checked into Marquis after a 12 hr trip from UK, found it to be a haven of tranquility and much needed place to R n R. Majority of staff great, one or two only seem to be buttering you up for a tip, manager seemed quite aloof only bothered with long stay guests or Indian visitors.Room small but well furnished, nice size bathroom and ours was in quiet location.Restaurant served good food although prices went up in our second week in some cases doubling, not good idea with all the available options a short stroll away on main road. The sun bathing grassed area at the end of the garden overlooking the beach is brilliant, rumour was that this was going to be altered for dining area, bad plan as it was very very popular with guests who wanted sea breeze without getting full of sand.
