“''Gem''”
Reviewed April 24, 2014 via mobile

Visited this place with my wife and my 20 month old.
I must say that this place is a little gem tucked away in the lanes of Candolim.
We booked the luxury room for 5 nights.
It's got everything going for it.
It's on the beach, it's got clean and spacious rooms, its got a nice clean pool area and a very courteous staff.
Taxis and bikes are available right outside the hotel premise.
All in all its a great place and I highly recommend it.

No photograph, either on the web or in a brochure, did this hotel justice. The pool area is absolutely gorgeous, surrounded by palms and lush vegetation. The grounds stretch all the way down to the beach and, although parched and dried out at the moment, are obviously more lush earlier in the season.

The pool attendants keep the poolside immaculate, and provide you with towels and umbrellas. Our four year old swims confidently with a rubber ring, but she can't stand up even in the shallow end of the pool and the toddler pool is way too deep for little ones (very small, up to her chin and co-located with an even deeper jacuzzi pool). It didn't affect our enjoyment at all, but you might be bothered about it as the sea is too rough on this coastline to go deeper than your waist. You can order drinks from the little outdoor bar all day, all served with a smile.

Thank you Sonesta for your lovely rooms. The arrangement is just two rooms on each floor, and we had both between us and the three children (3rd bed put in one room). We had one room overlooking the pool/bar area (quiet and pretty but could be noisy peak season?) and one facing the quiet residential street at the back. The suites were really big and the bedroom part is divided from the living room part by a giant roller blind which provided our children with brilliant fun. Beds are enormous, two free 1L bottles of water per day and Cadburys Dairy milk (60p) in the mini bar!!

The hotel is very well located. The residential road it's on is off the Main Street with noisy beeping cars and bikes, in an affluent area. It's the quiet northern edge of Candolim, on the border with Calangute. Taxis wait outside the hotel and are allied to the hotel so you see the same faces every day. Once you get a favourite, you can organise days out with them and negotiate a price directly with the driver. Doctor a short walk away and service is quick.

The restaurant is very good here - the Indian food is amazing. Eating outside under the twinkly lights is very, very nice.

This trip was for my parents. My father celebrated his 70th Birthday whilst there. I wanted to arrange a special evening for my parents to celebrate the birthday. I e mailed the general manager, Jose. I can not fault the servicce i was given. although i was in the UK and was e mailing India you would have thought i was dealing with someone local. WE were in contact every day. The cooperation was second to none and i could not fault the help i received. The people at the hotel went way over what i expected and made the evening a VERY special day for my parents. There was lobster, party baloons, champagne and even a cake with candles. The flowers on the table weere beautiful and there was even a photographer that took some pictures and put them on a disc and presented my parents with it. My parents have been to this hotel a few times and from the experienc i have received for this special occasion i would give them a rating of OUTSTANDING.

Room Tip: My parents had a luxury room in front of the pool. They would recommend this as it was nice and peac...

We visited Sonesta in late March. It was fairly quiet and Goa was extremely hot at the time (some days reaching a scorching 36 degrees.
The hotel itself is lovely with fabulous staff especially the bar men and pool attendants. They are always so polite and it feels almost as if you are a celebrity as no matter what time of day or night the staff greet you with a welcome smile.
The décor is really nice the rooms were clean, large and had all the amenities that we needed including a fridge, fan & air con, a telly with satellite channels and a balcony over looking the pool.
We visited Tara salon which was an experience, Its cheap as chips, but you'd need to be very specific on what you want. Only one worker could speak English and not fluently.
Its about a 3 minute walk down a private walk way (can be eerie and scarey when alone in the evening) to the beach. You will be approached on all sides to sit at the many cafes chairs.
The food (especially breakfast) become fairly repetitive and I was glad not to have another egg breakfast when I left.
There wasn't that much information on excursions or trips around Goa provided by Sonesta, they are missing a real trick there as we had to organise all of our trips on our own, when they could have easily charged a commission for the service.

Overall, its a great hotel, lots of Russian and Brits. A lovely pool with waiter service so appealing to young families. Although in the quiet season, it will make a lovely romantic getaway. If you are looking for Nightlife and lots of shops Candolim isn't the place for you. Although you can catch a taxi for 15 minutes (for around £5.50) to Baga,a busier town.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the pool if you want daylight until sunset

We stayed for 2 weeks, the rooms are spacious and kept clean, with air conditioning and a fan, the only down side was the breakfast not being that brilliant, but you could get an egg cooked byt the chef if need be. The pool was a good size and the two guys looking after the pool are very helpful. The hotel is based a short walk away from the main road, but this is ideal as otherwise it would be noisy with the traffic.
I would recommend this hotel and people we met tend to go back year after year.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, but sadly ours overlooked the next door propery which was not a very nice view

I stayed with my wife for a week. Hotel and grounds are nice with palm trees, greenary and lovely chilling out atmosphere. We were there not so busy time. Breakfast is a little monotony. Fresh pancakes being cooked a d real coffee would have been great. Beach only 100 yds back of hotel anx shacks at gne beach provide free sunbeds, towels and umbrella as you get all ypur orders served at the beach. Quiet and hassel free beach with lovely waves and sea temp 25-30°c. Love to go back there again.

Great rooms and good service.... We travelled as a large family and had booked 1 villa and the Geetanjali suite.. The villa is located on the road leading to the beach and outside the hotel premises so to say. The villas are decently maintained with neat and clean rooms and bathrooms. The geetanjali room is a huge room with lot of antique furniture in it. however they would be better off if they provided comfortable seating in the Geetanjali room. The wrought iron chairs are really uncomfortable.

The restaurant provided decent options for veg and non-veg cuisines and is moderately priced. Breakfast though has very limited choices.

They have an excellent pool and pool view rooms are preferable as other rooms have practically no view.

Access to the beach is from the hotel itself but the path is smelly and not maintained at all with stray dogs loitering around.... the beach though is excellent with good shacks just at the entrance of the beach from the hotel.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms
