Stay at HB for the 4th time from 18 Dec to 2 Jan. This hotel complex is huge and a little impersonal as a result but fine if you just want a base and lots of room if you are a couple lucky enough to get one of the double rooms. Before coming out I had bombarded them with emails asking to stay in the new block (behind Newtons) and much to our delight that is where we stayed. All good I thought. The apartment was the same layout as the ones we have been
lucky enough to have stayed in before, 2 x ensuite double bedrooms, kitchenette and living room with 3, yes 3 balconies. Brilliant. The location is excellent. The new block now has its own reception and safety deposit box room. Its behind Newtons so you can use the other entrance to avoid the sellers at the main entrance of the hotel. Its quiet at night so no probs sleeping despite being fairly near to the main road. Breakfast is served at this Block now so not the hassle of queuing along with the other guests. Breakfast is fine usual toast and jam and eggs however you want them. Tea/Coffee etc. Totally adequate. Cant comment on the restaurants as we never ate in them.

Negatives

It turns out this was a private apartment - fair enough but the management at HB are being paid to maintain the rooms for rent I guess. The cleanliness of the apartment left a lot to be desired. The bathrooms were particularly clean and the large sofa was disgusting with stains of goodness knows what. We'd arrived at around 2am in the morning so just went to bed. Hubby wasn't as bothered as I was so we decided to leave things and see whether they improved. They didn't and when we didn't get clean towels on the 3rd day I went to complain at the main reception. Having experience of complaining at this hotel before for the same reasons I was a little more assertive and told them if we did have clean towels in our room that evening and if it wasn't clean, I would go to the main breakfast area when it was packed and make a massive scene about the state of the room. Must have worked cos within 30 minutes we had a guy at the room want to inspect it. When we came back from the beach the room was spotless, the sofa had been changed and the towels were even displayed in lovely shapes on the bed (never had this before in all 4 years of going there). From that point on everything was fabulous.

The staff at this block who look after the reception, particularly Jodie were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast staff were great.

Although this hotel is huge and doesn't have the charm of the guest houses the rooms are huge and lots of space to put your clothes and the location is brilliant. Will definitely use again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Ask for Block B - new block behind Newtons

We stayed in the Highland Beach Hotel for the 4th year in a row and already looking forward to going later this year

Hotel: we love the hotel due to the quietness when we go to the pool in the morning

We stayed in B-Block again this year and were delighted with our room and found the service when we required it was good

Breakfast: is eggs and more eggs with toast and juices

Location: just 60 yards from the main road in Candolin with all the resturants nearby

There is a breakfast bar at the bottom of the road called called Shady Nook where you could get a full english breakfast which included toast , tea or coffee and juice for £1-80p great value

Resturants: we did our rounds again including Rufflles, Top-Nosh, Fishermans Cove, Inferno, Coyote and the Bistro among many
We had a good meal in everyone but the Bistro is the best what a steak

Entertainment: We found a few places with good entertaiment with Coyote on a Tuesday night, Fishermans Cove on a Thursday night and Jambalaya most nights with Bluesmania on a Sunday night
Bending Bamboo is still the best place to have a drink at the end of the night

We spend most afternoons at Spotty,s shack

Also a few days at Anjuna Beach which is really quiet compared to Candolin

One disappointment was Tiffany jewllers in the lane , last year we had a lovely ring made and for great value, this year i had 2 rings made and was disappointed with the value on them when i got them checked back, not that they were below what i paid for them but i will not shop there next year

Overall we had a great holiday

really good value for money you can have eggs done anyway for breakfast and you can pay extra for bacon, but this isn't a problem as so cheap to eat in any restaurant if eggs don't appeal. this was our first time to goa and would recommend highland beach to anyone we arrived back in England on the 13/01/14 and have read some of the reviews people have left from the same time we were there not sure what they were expecting?. All staff were pleasant and helpful the rooms are dated and the A/C loud but not worth getting upset about as the streets are very dirty the rooms can appear a bit grubby but ours was cleaned daily with no problems even if we had a lie in [afternoon]. The padlocks on the doors are a bit unusual but if you share a room this may cause a problem. you need to remember to take a padlock for the safes although you can buy them over there. the fridge is old and the freezer box well frozen but did its job and froze the bottled water, there are plenty of pools to choose from which are spotless but we chose to go to the beach every day as there was more breeze and cooler overall there is nothing to fault about this hotel. would recommend the charity night Thomas cook offer on a Monday night and there are plenty of excellent restaurants for evening meals.

Arrived at this hotel on 28th december with great expectations after reading reviews, we have been to candolim for the last 5 years, we arrived with friends who had not been before and we were disgusted with the hotel as the cleaning service was appalling dirty sheets ripped pillow cases dirty floors and the bathroom (well) the toilet and sink were not cleaned even after complaining and we had to wipe round ourselves with wet wipes.Towels were taken every day but not replaced we had to ring everyday when we got back to the room and wait for them to arrive. We made a 3 page complaint form with the rep who had also been to see the room and agreed herself that it was not acceptable we will be returning to candolim but will definitely never going back to highland bea h

Booked this hotel directly as our children (adults) were arriving and had booked through Monarch. Tommy, manager was helpful in letting me view rooms to see what I liked, and also arranged for our rooms to be together. We ended up in the new block, much nicer, more modern, cleaner. Location was great, just at the side of Newtons, short walk to beach and centre, new block is spotlessly clean and reception modern and pretty, no wifi though which was a bit of a let down. Housekeeping were shocking, towels some days, not others, ditto toilet rolls, never wiped surfaces down and floors were hit and miss. Big problem with the rates, we had to upgrade to the new block, which cost an extra £20 a night, per room, £500 in all for 2 rooms for 2 weeks. They also charged us £70 a night for an extra week which is very high when you can rent a decent appartment in Candolim for £20 a night.

We stayed in the Highland Beach resort over Christmas and New year. Overall we had no complaints. The rooms were spacious and cleaned daily(we had a two bedroom apartment).Lots of swimming pools to choose from and were all kept clean and tidy. We got some great information on restaurants and places to go from two couples who spend most years in Goa. Hotel location handy for shops, restaurants and a 10 minute walk to Candolim Beach. Recommend the Fishermans Cove, Coyotes and Claudinas Beach shack. All serve great food and have fantastic service.
