Highland Beach Resort
Ranked #57 of 66 Hotels in Candolim
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Just come back from another 3 weeks in Candolim, went with my fiancee and her son.We had a slightly false start at the Highland Beach,we arrived at 2 am and were taken to a room which the inhabitants of the Black Hole of Calcutta would have refused. After strongly worded complaint we were given a good room in B block 2 bedrooms 2 showers and a huge living room, kitchen was good too and looked newly decorated. We had a generally great time staff were friendly, kept the place nice and clean and the atmosphere was good.Service sometimes took forever I even thought about ordering breakfast the night before so as to get it before lunch.Still the good outwighed the bad and if youve been to Goa you will know that accomodation is much of a muchness but stand your ground and things will be put right.Highland Beach comprises many blocks and seven swimmimg pools and is well set out.It is near to the shops and 10-15 mins from the beach. We would stay there again.

Stayed during 07th & 8th January, 2013.

Location : Good. Just 10 minutes walking distance from Candolim Beach. Situated in nice area.

Rooms : Spacious room. 1 BHK appartment type. Only minus point is dark lighting (Yellow bulb) in front room. Otherwise rooms are good. Comfortable beds, neat and clean bed sheet & towels.

Food : Good if you like Gujarati test.

Service : Good

Conclusions: After all good property with nice location. We defiantly go back.

This hotel is part of a large complex and all public areas are very clean. For example, the pool and surrounding areas were cleaned all the time, women swept leaves and any dirt away a few times in day and every morning a man cleaned the pool. We swam in the pool which was lovely and not many people went in. The room itself was 1506 which overlooked the large pool on one side and another balcony overlooked the gardens. This room was really for 4 people so we had 2 toilets and showers which to be honest need updating especially the toilet bins. We had a large living room with TV and phone which we only used for room service once, but was impressed when the meal arrived. The kitchen area had table and 4 chairs, and cupboards which were all locked and had notices on saying "owners property", so we had no crocs or utensils only a bottle opener on wall. So if you like a brew in a morning, take a kettle or buy one like us. It does have a fridge which is old looking but did the job and it has a freezer compartment so we bought ice cream. Loads of space and cleaned daily. Would recommend this hotel even though it could do with a lick of paint and some things replacing, beds are firm, but we slept well. Has air-con and fans in all rooms and on balconies. For brekie its mainly toast, tea or coffee, jams , juices and any type of eggs. My husband asked for bacon at extra charge, he got lots but its not quite the same as ours. You could have indian brekie but we never tried. Oh and I did see cereal but not sure if its extra charge. We ate here a few times at first it was very good then another time we invited friends because they advertised a buffet and entertainment on a chalk board in the morning. When we came to eat in the evening they said no buffet, but I think they removed the board. They seemed to be entertaining another large party and unfortunately we got neglected, we should have complained but we didnt. Overall this hotel is very good just a few niggles, but it is very large and sometimes staff get overstretched. We had a fanastic taxi driver outside hotel called Mr. Chris, he took us places for half the price of organised tours, he also went into pharmacy with my husband when he needed some medicine, he looked after us really well.

Room Tip: Just make sure where your room is in relation to kitchens or noisy areas, otherwise ok

Have just returned from this hotel and can honestly say we had a lovely time. We were in b block room 705, more like an apartment, two bedrooms, two showers, livingroom with tv and kitchen which had a sink and fridge freeezer. Two balconies as well. Very quiet here, furniture is very basic but what we expected, beds are very hard but we soon got used tothem, it was very clean and room boy came in 6 days a week. We took extra loo roll as we had read they rationed them !! but had no problems, towels delivered every day. I believe there are seven pools but we used the one nearest to our room and reception, word of warning the temperature is very cold, not many swim in it but we did every day and was quite refreshing.
We had breakfast around the pool each morning which consists of fresh juice, coffee/tea, and eggs made anyway you want, boiled, scrambled, poached, omelettes are very nice, we found it sufficient for us though i know some went local for a full English. Free wifi too, but someho we had troule geting reception on our phones !! we had a few meals here and found the food quite nice and still very cheap. The grounds are lovely with lots of palm trees.
There are lockers just to the left by reception, just bring a medium size padlock with you.
Asyou come out of the hotel there are a few shops ad jewelry shops, we bought a few things from them but felt hounded at times !! There is a lady wo sits under a tree selling fruit all day long, she would just smile but not put pressure on you, we bought strawberries off her every day, lovely lady, and gave all our left over toiletries for her on our las day. If you want to go for a really nice steak go to Foxy's just two mins from hotel. We went to Mango Grove a , few times . turn right bottom of road, they do lovely prawn dishes. Taxi drivers outside hotel are nice guys, they can pester you a it but guess they are just wanting to make a living. We paid 100 R to take us end of long man road up Calamari Beach shack ( geat atmosphere on Sunday afternoons ) and paid 200 R to Baga ( certainly not 350 R as another reviewer paid !!) 700 rupees to the Sat night market ( a must !! ) driver wait for youwe stayed for about 2 half hours. Tuk tuks are an experience and we found we paid same price as the taxis, always age a price before you get in.
We bought a few pieces of jewelery, we wen to Ashoka, very good sevice and will be getting them valued next week, will put a review up soon on the forumif im pleased.
Overall we h ad a good stay, couldnt fault the hotel for what we paid. We generally did not like all the traffic on the main road, and the constant beeping of horns, loved the food, so cheap, and you can shop till you drop !!!!
We would return here but we are going to try South Goa next year as we do prefer it a little bit more peaceful

Room Tip: choose rooms on b block, avoid by kitchen

Rite near the beach, great places to dine nearby, but service standards are average. These are residential condos that have been turned into a hotel. Therefore the service here takes forever, breakfast order took like 50 minutes.

Stayed at this hotel several times and for Goan standards we can't fault it! The location is great, set back from the busy main road but close enough to all the restaurants/bars and shops and not too far away from the beach. Rooms are cleaned everyday and fresh towels left most days (just need to ask housekeeping for some if they haven't left any and they bring them straight to your room... this only happened on a couple of occasions!). We have been lucky to always have stayed in the apartment style rooms which are huge and have 3 balconies! Breakfast adequate if you just want a brew, fresh juice, toast & eggs but cheap enough to go for breakfast anywhere in Candolim. Very friendly staff, hotel seems to be expanding each time we visit. We bought some nice jewellery from the store next to the hotel, he seems a genuine guy... just hope the gemstones we bought are also genuine!

I will give a full account in the coming days

But i would recommend Tiffany Jewellers in the lane, i got my wife a solitaire ring made and when i brought it back home and got it valued it was worth 3 x what we paid for it, they will make it for you in 48 hours

Room Tip: Ask for a room in B-Block
