Summerville Beach Resort
Ranked #60 of 67 Hotels in Candolim
Reviewed April 30, 2012

I just had 2 days to spend for my vacation and I regret for choosing Summerville Beach LODGE for as my place of stay. The biggest blunder I 've ever made. The rooms are ok, The restaurant is so dingy and the utensils have not seen water for ages. I will strongly not recommend this place to the future travellers to the place as beautiful as Goa. The rudeness of the staff there is the icing on the cake.

We have stayed here several times before and have to say it willbe our last... the staff are all very nice, rooms are a bit on the small side but always clean and tidy with a nice pool..

The hotel is now over run by russians and we had items stolen from our room which could only have been done by the staff... so never again..

Management was confronted but no comeback.

this is a tired hotel even by Goan standards.the first room we were given had no drawer space and about 2 feet of wardrobe depth,we were asked to move out for 2 nights because they were double booked on the promise of an upgrade to a better room for our remaining 11 nights we moved to the Don Hill not much better really and upon our return we were given a room in "the new block" okay we had a fridge and a TV but it was not much of an improvement on the plus side the rooms were cleaned and towels changed regularly and Alan and the boys were as helpful as they could be but it needs a complete refurb and a new pool

Look at the box and thats what you get. What Summerville lacks in luxuries it certainly makes up in friendlyness. Breakfast is basic and at times like watching an episode of Faulty Towers, but Shaden and Beppe try their very best and want to do well. Alan and the boys keep the rooms clean and are always there with a smile.

Room Tip: The rooms in the newer block have a lot more space than the older block

I dont know what they understand by studio and on top of that de Lux.
When we got there our room was ready, but it was ment to have TV and a minibar and there was nothing. It was only because I had a copy of the room discription that we got a tv and a fridge. The rooms are very very basic and quite small. The bathroom could do with a makeover like the rest of the room.
I must prase Alan and the boys. They are very helpful and friendly. Sometimes a bit too friendly. The constant handshakes got to us after a few days. But very concerned about our welfare when my husband wasnt feeling good they even left him 2 roses. The rooms got cleaned and the beds and towles where also changend every day.
There is a shortcut to the beach, but it means going trough a restaurant, We always went on the main road and then turned left. Its about 20 minutes to walk that way.
The restaurant we never used apart from breakfast, which consisted of 2 toast 1 tiny butter and one Jam. We never seen anybody eat there.
The tablecloth where only changed once during our 4 week stay, they are absolutely coverd in staines. There are 2 boys there serving but when they cant make out of bed by 8 the cook serves you. When the boys are awake they start brushing the tables and chaires with an old tablecloth, they then wiped the plates, knifes, forks and spoons with the same cloth while doing so wiped their noses and scratched their heads with it as well. We wiped everything ourselfs before we used it.
At first we said it wasnt really bad and we would consider going back, but after seeing all that every morning no way are we going near that hotel again, unless things change in the restaurant. I feel sorry for Alan and his boys, because they are really trying hard to make you feel welcome.

All the good reviews that you read about this resort are completely fake, this is the worst rip off i have ever experienced in GOA. The hotel if you term it that is an old haggard building which does not even have a proper paint job. The rooms are so tiny, that they breathe down you neck, and when we checked in the hotel (obviously misled by the rosy pictures on the net) we found out that the restuarant is under renovation and we wont even get tea in the morning, for every meal we had to go out.

Now for the room itself, as an deluxe AC studio room it boasts (read carefully) of a 0.75 ton waste of an AC and a minute 12 inch screen TV, the ipad has a bigger screen the room TV.
To continue your suffering the staff is arrogant and each one of them havent taken a bath for weeks. The day we checked in, there was another group who was shell shocked by the look of the hotel and apparently the room they had booked was not available any more.

The person at the reception says "NO" for watever you ask for and the swimming pool timings are from 09.30 pm to 5.15 pm, when the sun in goa is on your head and you wont even think about swimming.

So please for heaven's sake if you dont want to ruin your holiday avoid this hotel. The only saving grace that i can say is that the rooms were clean.

Room Tip: No tips are required as all rooms are sh**ty

The initial shock of spending a month here when booking in was horrendous, we were shown the tiniest of room, with a 12 " hanging rail and no drawers to put anything, not a one! We were moved to a larger room the following day, but still no more hanging space or drawers. We had to fight and wait a week to be moved to the larger "suit rooms" this time we had 2 12" hanging rails and 2 small drawers which was classed as an upgrade. Therefore we has to pay another £100 for the upgrade. I had to go round the shops for boxes to put my things in. Otherwise it was living out of the suitcases.

Its a shame as the staff, as in all of Goa, are lovely and do what they can to help. Hats off to Alan and Alex who were very helpful.

Shame on you owner as it would not take much to make the stay more pleasant, just a little money spent to decorate and clean the hotel properly and more thought for the requirements of the holidaymaker, which after all is the reason you have any business.

The pool was 6'5 deep in all parts, never see any chlorine, totally unsuitable for anyone to use, very dirty round the edges which in the month we were there never got cleaned once. Everything had a grubby look including the bedding and towels, although they were changed everyday. It took some getting used to! Everything is tired and shabby. This is not typical of other hotels we have been in.
