“Value for Money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

Nestled in a quite corner near sinquerim beach and the TAJ property, this small property is far away from the crowded streets and beaches of calanaugate and baga, a perfect place to have some quality relaxing time. We arrived from PANAJI on our activa (20 minutes drive) and were given a warm welcome by the Manager, Checkin was a breeze with hardly 2 minutes, I had even forgot my ID however they accepted my scanned copy which luckily I've in my email. Moving on we stayed in the bournevilla adjacent to the lobby and opening in the veranda/open space, the property has pretty old furniture which adds to the charm of the place. Room was pretty standard size but clean with the shared balcony overlooking greenery. The room only had twin beds (though were comfy) which as a couple you may find uncomfortable. Service is great, frankly we didn't expect this much attention however the staff is really polite especially the chefs and housekeeping staff and tried their best to make things convenient for us. Noteworthy points for fellow travelers: FOOD is not included in the rates, they have a la carte menu which is at par with most of the restaurants hence we mostly ate at restaurants :) and they charge 2.5 % extra if you pay by credit card so I had to go all the way to candolim to avid some moolah. The beach is located 10-15 minutes of walk (500 m) since we had activa with us communicating within candolim and nearby attractions was not a problem but if you prefer walking be ready to walk atleast 1-1.5 km for any eating joint henceforth strongly recommend hiring a scooter (Activa/ bike) Since we went very early in the season was able to get a discount on the published prices hence the VALUE FOR MONEY, overall had a lovely stay

Marbella guest house is an amazing place to stay in if you want a calm vacation. Away from the hustle bustle and touristy locations in Goa, this is situated at the end of a very serene lane in Sinquerim. The Sinquerim and Candolim beaches and Fort Aguada are walking distance from here.
The rooms are so well done! Each room has been thoughtfully and tastefully decorated based on the theme. The sunken bath in our Rajasthani suite rocked! We also had a small garden to ourselves for nice peaceful coffee in the evening.
The staff here is very helpful and skilled. We generally had breakfast here and every dish is cooked to perfection. The cook, Ashok jee, is very accommodating as per your requirements.
Mario, who is the manager here, will help you in every way he can.
Marbella has two house dogs, Rupert and Ruby, who are as tame as they can be. I did not mind them at all...And believe me I am super scared of dogs.

The only negative two negative points I can say about this place is that the good restaurants and party places are near Baga and Sinquerim is not really well connected by public transportation. However we had rented a car and could drive to all places easily. The location, though secluded, is not scary at all, even at night.
Secondly, I went there in an off peak season. So at 2200 per night, the suite was value for money. However is peak season it might seem a bit pricey as they do not offer any other services or complimentary breakfast.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique. I stayed in the Rajasthani Suite. If you are a bath tub person...Nothing like...

It was a brilliant experience. From the moment we checked in everything was just perfect. We had all our breakfasts there. We loved it every morning. It was so quaint and peaceful. The bathroom is wonderful. We showered several times just to enjoy the bath tub. The goan curry and rice was delicious. The staff were extremely warm and helped us with what ever we wanted.

Room Tip: Rajasthani suite is a steal. It is better than every other room there.

We stayed at Marbella guesthouse for five nights back in March. It was lovely. A really peaceful setting, close to the beach and bus stop for if you want to travel around Goa. The owners and staff made our stay even better- the food is stunning, cooked to order and so good we happily ate there every night. Great value for money. Would recommend it over and over again.

We loved our stay at the Marbella Guesthouse. It is a lovely old Portuguese villa with a beautiful garden situated at the end of a quiet lane. Contrary to another poster's review, it is well within walking distance of the beach and the restaurants but far enough away from the hustle and bustle (it is aimed a cut above the backpacker crowd). Of course, if you wish to go to Anjuna or Mapusa, then motorised transport is necessary but there is a bus stop at the end of the lane with frequent buses for around 10 rupees. The only time we needed to hire a car was upon arrival and departure when we had luggage.

The villa is also very close to the start of the trail up to the lighthouse where we were able to witness a beautiful sunset The two dogs, Ruby and Rupert, invited themselves along for the walk although they ran off as soon as we started to head home!

We stayed in one of the Bougainvillea rooms (the one with the green bathroom) which backed onto the courtyard, although we were never disturbed by other guests or staff. The room was spotless and it shared a pleasant terrace with the adjoining room. The only minor issue was that the room was a bit dark, due to a combination of energy-saving bulbs and the foliage outside the window but this is a trade-off with helping to keep the room cool during the day.

The staff were extremely helpful and it was nice to have an open kitchen where we could see our food being prepared.

This was our first trip to Goa and as with the other places that we stayed, we wished that it could have been for longer (only 2 nights).

We were looking for a different kind of experience and wished to stay in a Goan style villa after our luxurious stay at one of the 5 stars in Goa attending a wedding out there.
The pictures posted on the website do justice to the place. Its a cute pinkish red bricked villa situated in a narrow lane, just about 10 mins walking from Fort Aguada and the Taj properties of Taj Aguada and Holiday Village.

What we loved about the place was a laid back atmosphere, a cute verandah and clean, comfortable rooms. We selected the Garden room for our stay of 2 nights and found it small but comfortable for 2 people. However the bathroom did emit a foul smell every night, probably from the drainage pipes and we had to make sure the bathroom door was shut tightly at night so that the odour wouldn't escape into the room.

The staff is very friendly and the food they prepared was outstanding. We did venture out for a couple of meals, but being the monsoons, many of the fantastic restaurants in Candolim were shut for the season. I had absolutely no issues with the meals they prepared inspite of being a vegetarian.

What make this place special for us were the 2 in house dogs - Rupert & Ruby. Absolutely gentle and friendly, they never disturbed us during our entire stay and loved to play when we went walking by. Rupert knows all the restaurants in the vicinity and will even be your guide if you wish to. We took Rupert along with us as a trekking guide, and after following a small trail just outside the villa, we climbed a small hill and witnessed breath taking views of the sea and the cliff below. It was simply out of this world!

When you want to escape from it all,and wish for the delightful company of 2 wonderful dogs, definitely stay at the Marbella Guest House! The atmosphere of it transports you back into another century!.

Room Tip: If the villa is empty, request to see all the rooms if you wish to change your room, they very graci...

Hi,
Thankyou for your positive review
Good, you experienced the monsoon rains with us. Glad to hear that you sampled some of our food and liked it, we do have a small range of dishes to cater to the vegetarian palate.
And everything cooked fresh.
You mentioned the garden room it is a lovely room but we have had a problem recently with the bathroom. We do have a vent in there to repel any odours but i do not think its working very well so i will get that checked out. Also i will investigate the drainage as soon as possible. I wish i had known about it whilst you were staying with us i would have given you a discount or moved you to another room. please if you book with us again please ask to be referred to me if you have any problems or doubts whatsoever. i am really very sorry about this. But thanks for bringing it to my attention unfortunatly i don't always get messages from some of the staff but i have a guest feedback form now at the guest house which i hope will solve some problems. And on request i will be happy to receive calls if guests wish to speak with me.
it's really nice to get feedback about our resident dogs rupert and ruby, i am a big fan of animals in goa and i have adopted quite a few strays. I hope and pray that ruby and rupert are always well behaved and past feedback has been positive. Although some people don't want them around thats quite acceptable too. As long as guests are aware, that they are part of our marbella family. The kitchen staff are great and some of them have been working for us over 20 years! Marbella does have that old world feel to it doesn't it? And if you felt nourished and at home then that makes it all worthwhile. look forward to seeing you next time. susan

We stayed there in May 2013 for three days and the stay was excellent. If you like hte old world charm and need a quite vacation in the lap of nature, thus is where u should stay. If you are looking for a luxury hotel with all amenties , this is not where you would like to go to.

Its tucked in at the end of fort aguada road, a beautiful old portugese villa with the furnitures & decor which connects you to the Portugese facade of Goa. Staff are very co operative and gentle natured.

You can get real big rooms if you book one of those maoghul or rajasthani suites and treat yourself royally.

Room Tip: Moghul and rajathani suites
