“End of the year stay in Noth Goa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

Had a college re union in North Goa. Chose this place as they were the only one in Goa who took a credit card guarantee for rooms. Booked the rooms 5 months in advance and they held on to my reservations, else all other hotels wanted me to pay in advance, which is very difficult when your are organising a re union. We had good pool facing rooms, clean bathrroms, we had Break fast and 1 major meal included. Food quality was avg for that star rated property. Location is avg, though a short distance from the beach. They have a shuttle for folks who dont want to walk to the beach. Overall north goa in last week of dec is chaos, traffic jams at 11pm-midnight are common. Also when we were there Sunburn'12 was going on, adding to the chaos.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms and ask for 1 major meal to be included apart from breakfast

This was our eighth visit to Goa, and I have to say the FSR is the best hotel we have stayed in yet. The whole hotel has a very upmarket feel, with large airy public spaces, classy furnishings throughout and a nice man playing piano in the foyer. And the pool is without doubt the best we have ever seen in Goa, with a lovely open feel and with a view of the country side, compared to the usual enclosed pools we have had, like the Country Inn next door. A good depth, nice temperature and easy steps to get in. You do need to get there before 9.00 to grab the very sturdy sun beds, but lots became free again around lunch time, and the pool boy was very helpful.
Our room was on the fourth floor, and our balcony had a view away from the pool, but with plenty going on to watch, and was a fine place to watch the sun set. The bed was huge and very comfy, and for once in Goa there was more than enough drawers and storage space. A bit short on the coat hangers though, and a couple of requests for more drew a blank. But a minor problem with the shower was dealt with quickly. The fridge and kettle were a nice touch, and the free water was always kept well topped up.
The only niggle with the room was a central lights, air conditioning, fan and door sign control box, that we was so complicated we called it "Mission Control". A a previous poster has said, we always had to adjust the air con to make it cooler. But more annoyingly, all the light switches were there, not where you wanted them, so one person had to put everything on and off. Odd, but not a major problem. The room (3401) was next to a lift and service area, so got a bit of noise sometimes, but not too bad.
The staff were all very attentive and polite, but we have to say, maybe too many of them were not doing anything useful. Going to breakfast, one opened the door and greeted you, and another pulled your chair out for you. But then you waited ages for the one coffee pourer to come around. More coffee, less greeting please! There was a wide choice for breakfast, with a lot of Indian dishes for the many domestic guests, but the bacon and sausages were horrible. They have a really good omelette and eggs chef, so we tended to have those every day, but the potatoes, mushrooms or beans to go with them were often luke warm at best, as was the "Hot" milk. There was another area for cold items like fruit, cheese and curds (yoghurt), but this ran out easily and didn't get topped up often.
But for all that, this is Goa, and it was still the best breakfast spread we have had there. We usually ate out for lunch and dinner, and looking at the menu the prices in the hotel were very high-over 700 Rupees for a curry you could get for 200 elsewhere. But I have to say the samosas are the best we have ever had! Three huge hot samosas with a lovely Tamarind sauce were 130 rupees compared to 30 outside, but worth every penny.
So yes, we would recommend this hotel, and would go back if the price was right. Unfortunately it's not right for this New Year, so we won't be straight back, but who knows for 2015?

This was our first trip to Goa. Our room was big enough butwas a bit worn round the edges. The balcony did not have a view. We were looking into the back yards of people's homes. The bathroom was a good size with shower. We had an issue with the airconditioning. It wasn't the easiest to control. It set automatically at 23 degrees & we had to continously keep turning it down. There was a ceiling fan but this was noisy so we couldn't have it on during the night. One good thing about the hotel though is that if you're travelling from the UK or the Republic of Ireland, you don't need to bring plug converters. They have sockets which take the 3 prong plugs. Our safe broke but it was duly replaced with a new one. Our fridge was also broken and that was replaced fairly quickly too. We booked this hotel specifically because it had a gym which it turns out was fairly well equiped. The only problem was the air conditioning. It wasn't great which made running on the treadmill harder than usual. The pool is very small & there were only a few sun beds that were almost always 'booked' by breakfast time. We spent out days at the beach. You can change money at the hotel but they didn't appear to hold a lot of cash so but there are lots of places in Candolim that you can change money.Eating out was very cheap. Lots of good restaurants e.g. Bomras, Replublic of Noodles, Cecilias, Michael's, Inferno. The choice of food in most restaurants will suit most people. We're not smokers but 20 cigarettes cost about £1.40. A bottle of Smirnoff was £6.00. There are plenty of places to buy any holiday clothes & the prices are very, very reasonable. Wonderfully friendly people. There is poverty though that unless you don't leave your hotel you will see. Candolim beach is nice. Lots of beach shacks & we had dinner a few times at Calimari. Lovely food in all the shacks though. Sai's is worth a visit. Ryan's was popular but it's prices in comparison to other shacks was a bit dearer. We visited Mandrem beach which is nicer & quiter than Candolim. I read a review advising that if you're visiting the beach to bring a stick because of stray dogs but I have to say that yes there were dogs but they were very passive. Our advice would be that there is no need for a stick. We also visited the spice plantation, rode an elephant which was good but it felt a bit exploitative. Visit to the waterfalls was good to. We also did an overnight at Kola Beach. It was beautiful. The tents were big with a double bed & bathroom. Overall our Goa experience was incredible & our friends that we were there with are alrready looking to book a holiday for 2014.

We held our two day sales conference at this hotel. The hotel is part of the ITC chain of hotels. The room was good overlooking the swimming pool and an open farmland beyond the hotel boundary. The buffet breakfast had a large spread though the coffee was cold. The buffet lunch and dinner was great with a wide spread of veg and non veg fare. The staff at the restaurant was very courteous and prompt in service. Thebswimming pool is not vey large but is clean and you can enjoy a swim before 9 am when the pool is empty. After 9 am the pool gets full with people enjoying a sunbath by the pool side. The Gym is small but functional. The only problem that I had was with the airconditioning which was just not adequate and you have to keep the ceiling fan on at night otherwise it gets uncomfortably warm. I had a problem with the tea kettle and it required 5 phone calls and one hour in the morning to set it right. The property is about 7 mins walk from the beach. on the way to the beach you can buy beer at the shops dotting the beach road. A pint at the shop costs 35 Rs while the same at a shack on the beach will cost 80 Rs. You can also rent a scooter for Rs 250 per day from a shop outside the hotel and enjoy the more lively Baga and Anjuna beaches which have a active night life. If you happen to go to Candolim beach early in the morning please carry a stick as there are packs of stray dogs on the beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool facing room in the wing above the reception.

Just returned from 2 weeks in the Fortune Select Regina and honestly cant fault it, if you don't mind paying the extra cost for a top hotel id say go for it.

Staff cant do enough for you, pool boy needs a special mention as not only did he keep and return my brand new ,and very expensive, Oakley sunglasses when the wife left them under a pool bed but he'd find you a bed every morning some how.

Bedrooms are comfortable and very well equipped and they supply toiletries and plenty of bottled water every day.

Its in a quite area down a side lane but beach is only 10 minutes walk away with plenty of good restaurants close by, the main beach street is about 20 minutes walk away.

Pool facing rooms are better if you like a view or spend a lot of time out on the balcony.

If your a light sleeper stay away from rooms 3101-3105 as they are above a busy kitchen and work area that starts around 7 in the morning didn't bother us but if you like a lay in it could you.

Room Tip: If your a light sleeper or enjoy a lay in stay away from 3101-3105 as they have a busy kitchen &...

Arrived here quite late in the evening but had a nice welcome and the hotel lobby looked really bright and clean.
The room itself was spacious and modern with a big shower compartment in the bathroom. The floor was quite dirty and didn’t seem to have been cleaned thoroughly but apart from that it was really nice. It was noisy though with people coming and going into a kitchen down the corridor at night.
Went to breakfast around 9.30am and the dining room, although really large, was absolutely packed out, with lots of tables full of large groups and people milling around everywhere. Nobody greeted us or explained the set up, so it was all a bit bewildering! We managed to find a table which was outside and then we got no kind of service whatsoever!! Finally got to order a coffee with one waiter, it was like dishwater and it was cold! The breakfast was buffet style and although there was a lot to choose from it was mostly uncovered, the supplies were very depleted and what was left looked very tired and unappetising. We were not at all impressed, .
We went out to find the shops and it was about a 25mins walk there and a further 10 mins or so to the beach. Couldn’t understand how everything we had read said it was in such a good location! We were thinking how on earth could we stay at this hotel with awful breakfasts, not very clean room, noisy and in the middle of nowhere - we thought we had made an awful mistake!
We got a tuk tuk back and to our surprise we were at the hotel in about 3 minutes as he went a different way to the one we had walked. It seems we had turned the wrong turning out of the hotel!! Later on, we spoke to quite a few other people who had also done the same. If you go the correct way, it really is in a great, central location!
The pool was really lovely and the attendant there was so nice and helpful. Although there don’t appear to be many sun beds for the size of hotel, we never had any trouble getting one and it never seemed crowded.
Back to our room, the floor had been cleaned, the sun was streaming in and it looked so much better than the previous day, so we were gradually changing our opinion especially as we didn’t notice the noise so much that evening.
Next day at breakfast it was like being in a different place, it wasn’t crowded, the service was brilliant, the coffee was hot and the food plentiful and fresh! We couldn’t believe the change - it really was a great experience.
After that every day, we enjoyed being at the hotel more and more, really grew to love it and were actually very sad to leave!

A great hotel in the centre of Candolim. It is difficult to fault anything with this hotel as everyone was so helpful and friendly. The pool is smallish with a small section fenced off for the children at the one end. The pool attendant couldnt have done anymore for you. He was always there with a smile on his face arranging the towels on the beds, and by the end of the week, knew which beds we wanted and which direction we wanted them facing. It has a swim up bar and the bar attendant is also very friendly. The restaurant at breakfast is normally very busy and we noticed a lot of Indian people were staying in the hotel, which meant that a lot of the breakfast included a lot of spicy food but there are cooking stations in the restaurant, where they will cook your eggs fresh for you. There was a selection of bread and a toaster, but there could have been more of a selection of preserves/jams, meat and cheeses. The rooms were nice and clean and the reception area is clean and attractive, looking out towards the pool. We didnt eat in the hotel in the evening as there are loads of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The hotel is a short distance from the main road along a dusty track, so the coaches drop you on the main road, but it is only about a 5 minute walk. Nearly all the hotels are off the main road down tracks anyway. Once you have walked up the track you are on the main road which stretches both ways for miles with lots of places to eat, drink and shop, although this road is very busy with cars and motorbikes. We say two people knocked over. There is a small uneven footpath on one side, which I recommend to walk on, as it can be dangerous to walk on the road. If you turn of the main road, you will find a track down to the beach, which once there stretches for miles each way with local bars that serve snacks, but beware you may have to share it with a few cows, as they are allowed to roam free on the beaches. There is a local bar next door to the hotel, but we didnt try it. The nearest restaurant is the Top Nosh, which we didnt try until the last day, but I would well recommend this, it looks nothing from the outside, just an entrance, but on entering it has a lovely clean patio area and a garden around the back with lots of tables and a cooking station, where nan is cooked fresh. The hotel has a fish buffet once a week which looked very good, as they arrange all the tables around the pool and have lanterns so it looks really attractive. The food and drink in Goa is really cheap, even eating in the hotel restaurants which we did.

Room Tip: Our room faced the road but it was enjoyable sitting watching the day to day life of Goa and it wasn...
